Kawakami a top 3 P5 character. Im actually surprised shes out before quite a few other characters from the game. Out before Caroline is unimaginable to me

Maya is great and doesn't deserve Ms. Toriumi making her look like a moron.

I don't really understand liking any of the Strega members, I ranked them all pretty low and next to each other. None of them were really compelling villains at all.

Akinari is an ill boy who meets Makoto in the park through Maiko. He's the Sun Social Link from Persona 3, and is the most popular of the Sun Social links. He brings him back his pen, and the two begin a friendship. Akinari is dying, but he still wants to tell his story. He's the most popular non-party member non-velvet attendant from Persona 3, which isn't really a surprise. His story is very well told, and is easily one of the best social links in the game. Also one of the saddest, as he dies in the end. He and Makoto share similar fates. Akinari's story about a pink alligator, however, lives on in Persona 4. It's one of the sadder moments in Persona 3, and that's saying something because the game can be quite depressing at points.

Caroline is the other of the twin wardens in Persona 5. Unlike her sister, she's more Tsundere. She and Justine both share a social link, but Caroline is rated a bit higher. She's even someone's favorite! Though not the highest ranking Velvet Attendant, she's still quite popular. Together they are dedicated to Joker's rehabilitation. Eventually they realize their master is an imposter, and that they are actually each half of one whole, and combine to form Lavenza. They do appear in Persona Q2, where they are scared of their older sisters, but they bully Theodore relentlessly.

Maruki is a special character added to Persona 5 Royal. He is the Councilor Arcana, created special for the game. He acts as a guidance councilor to the students at Shujin Academy. Probably about time some kids in a Persona game got counseling! Of course he has ulterior motives, though not necessarily evil. He wants to take away everyone's pain and create a perfect world. He has noble intentions, but he's still in the wrong. Which makes him one of the most interesting villains of the series. Though I will say his gaslighting of Sumire is a bit concerning.

Haru Okumura is the daughter of Kunikazu Okumura and a student at Shujin Academy. She's also a member of the Phantom Thieves, though she joins quite late. Most feel Haru was underutilized, but what's there is still a solid character. Her father forced her to get engaged to an utter asshole for business purposes. But Haru grows into quite the young businesswoman herself. She's also very good at gardening. Her Confidant starts pretty late, which is rather unfortunate. You see her around school a few times before the school trip, and then you see her on the school trip as well. Her time with Morgana is one of the worst parts of the game, but that's not really her fault. She originally goes by the title "Beauty Thief", but her official code name is Noir. Her role in Persona 5 strikers is a bit better imo. Her crazy driving nearly gets everyone killed. It gives her a lot more personality than Persona 5 did.

The Protagonist of Persona 3, Makoto Yuki AKA Minato Arisato. Surprisingly he's not as popular as Yu Narukami or Joker. But that might be because he feels like a little less of a presence and more of a silent protagonist. Makoto arrives at Iwatodai dorm in the middle of the dark hour, having no idea why everyone has turned into coffins. He joins, and soon becomes leader of SEES. Makoto can be a bit of an enabler in his social links. His best and coolest moment however, comes at the end of the game where he faces off against Death itself to save the world. He gives his life as the seal to seal Nyx away. But he still makes it until the end of the game on the promised day, falling asleep in Aigis's arms. It's easily the saddest moment of the game, which already has many sad moments. Still a great character, especially for a silent protagonist. He's also an excellent leader who's teammates can rely on him.

For Real? Ryuji is our 30th ranked Persona character. Ryuji is a student at Shujin Academy, and one of the few who despises Kamoshida openly. But he also has very good reasons for hating the man. Ryuji joins the Phantom Thieves in their infancy, and he's there when Joker awakens to his Pesona. While he's the typical bro character of Persona 5, instead of the Magician Arcana, he is the Chariot Arcana. Still, most people think of him similar to Yosuke and Junpei. He even has a bit of the butt monkey status, and isn't good at academics. Over the course of his social link you learn how he used to run Track, but that was ruined by Kamoshida. It's easy to forget, though, that he's every bit as much a victim of Kamoshida as Ann or Mishima. I do think the others treat him a bit too harshly at times, especially when he nearly sacrifices himself for everyone.

The Female Protagonist of Persona 3: Portable. Sadly, she's only shown up in Persona Q2, and little elsewhere. Fans were immensely disappointed that she wasn't an option for Persona 3: Reload, but Sega said that it'd be too expensive to include her, so blame the hedgehog. She's more liked here than her male counterpart. Perhaps because she doesn't have Kenji or Nozomi as a social link. She and Makoto are mostly identical , except she fights with a Naginata. Their stories have a lot in common. And I'm sure it doesn't hurt she's cute (Makoto is too, though!). She's voiced by Laura Bailey, which I'm sure helps a lot too.

Kasumi is a character added to Persona 5: Royal. She's not as well integrated into the narrative as many would have liked, but she's still a solid character. It would've been nice if she had played a bigger part, though. Of course her real name is Sumire Yoshizawa, and Kasumi is her twin-sister. She has been going by Kasumi since the death of her sister, living her life as the twin who's life she wanted. It doesn't have quite the impact it should, as we never actually meet the real Kasumi. And I think it's unfortunate she's not available for more dungeons. They could have easily added her to Sae's dungeon as well as Shido's. I mean she appears there in the intro! No excuses, Atlus! She refuses to join the team instead after awakening to her persona, which is kind of lame. But she's still a pretty cool character, with a decent additional story focusing on her survivor guilt. As the father of identical twins, I can't imagine what one would do without the other. Especially at a young age.

Yusuke is a student of the artist Madarame when you first meet him. He attends Kosei High School, which is different from Joker, Ryuji and Ann. He's often a starving artist who very much likes to eat. He also made not one, but two top 1 lists! Yusuke joins the Phantom Thieves upon learning that his master is a fraud. He further learns that it was his mother that painted the Sayuri, and that Madarame let her die. Yusuke has a lot of funny moments -- like how it's his fault the fireworks get interrupted by rain. But his funniest moment is probably when he asks if Ann has put on weight. Becuase in the moment you're probably thinking "Wow, what an asshole!" and then you see Ann, and it's like "OH! yeah fair enough." As a character, his importance like the others slides off a bit after his dungeon, but he's still a fun member to have around. Plus it's funny how Futaba calls him Inari.

Yusuke Kitagawa doesn't fit in with the Persona 5 cast, but this is actually an inherent part of his character. He literally goes to a different school. He's an art student. He's meant to be weird. That scene where he and Joker pantomime the crucifixion is a top tier funny Persona moment. Great interactions with Futaba as well. I feel like out of all the main Persona party members I have the most in common with him. Because I'm poor. Yusuke Kitagawa is the Emperor Social Link of Persona 5. - Colliding

Koromaru is a dog who's also a persona user who can fight shadows. So of course he joins SEES. And he's a good boy. Yes he is. I mean c'mon, it's hard to hate a dog. He even has a bit of a backstory. He risks his life to protect the shrine in honor of his former master. Of course, as a dog that doesn't talk, there's only so much to his personality. But have you looked at this Shiba Inu? It's not too surprising that not one, but two people named him their favorite character. I feel like if it was just Persona 3, he probably wouldn't have ranked so high, but Reload and Portable both give you more time to spend with him. Though that bark in Reload is a bit iffy. Koro-chan is the best dog.

The Detective Prince (well the second one, anyway). Akechi is the justice social link for Persona 5. He's also the black mask who's going around causing the mental shutdowns on behalf of Masayoshi Shido. He also likes delicious pancakes. I mean who doesn't? He's Joker's foil, and the other trickster. When he has on his mask -- his kind personality -- he seems like someone who's only interested in the truth. But it's all a fascade to hide the evil darkness that lies within him. He's actually a lot more fun when he shows his evil side. The game kind of whitewashes his deeds and his friendship with Joke. But I feel like the pancakes twist of him having heard Morgana is fantastic. . I should add that the next part has spoilers for Royal, so I'm saying that now so you don't accidentally read this if you have only played vanilla Persona 5. He's also hilarious as navigator.

Cabbage Adachi is the goofball partner of Dojima. He's a bit of a bumbling detective and a gofer for his boss. He's also the true culprit and the killer of Saki Konishi and Mayumi Yamano. His true personality is very dark, but he does agree to turn himself in after being defeated. So there's something to say for that. Adachi is a pretty great villain, because you probably don't suspect him at first. I don't feel his 'gotcha' moment is that noticeable, even on a replay, which is kind of unfortunate. But he's great as a bad guy because wow is he evil. And a realistic type of evil who thinks everything is about him, and that he's something special. He also starts off not intending to kill, but sort of getting a kick out of it, and making everything into a game. Including manipulating Namatame into kidnapping kids. And let's be honest, it's great to watch Dojima yell at him, especially on replays knowing what a creep he is.

I am so glad I took the time to go back over Persona 4. I had him twenty spots higher, completely misremembering his Golden Social Link, forgetting how much of a petty sociopath he really is. There's no redemption for Doofy Adachi. I appreciate the dawning of wonder that hit me finally choosing him after saving Nanako, but I don't give the character any credit for that enlightenment. He is terrible. He is a petty stalker who killed a woman and a witness, manipulated a desperate man to obfuscate the case further, and prodded along the Investigation Team to keep going because he was too proud and bored to let things end. Absolute scum.

Fsteak! Chie loves steak. And kung fu. And Trial of the Dragon. She's also really good friends with Yukiko, and their friendship story is really great. I don't want to even put it behind a spoiler tag, because it's kind of cute and I don't even want to accidentally spoil it. Chie is very protective of Yukiko. Galactic Punt is also one of the funniest follow up attacks we've got. Chie is a bit insecure about her appearance as a girl, though that's pretty much expected of a teenage girl. It doesn't hurt that one of her friends is a boy who's an absolute jerk. And I'm not talking about Yosuke. There's this boy in her social link who's name I forget that's a total asshole. Chie is very protective of people. She and Yosuke have an interesting relationship.

Yosuke Hanamura is the son of the manager of Junes, and he's one of the first people Yu meets when he arrives in Inaba. He's kind of the butt monkey at times, but he's also like Yu's second in charge. He's the voice of the main character, who's mostly a silent protagonist. And he's a real bro for the most part... though his homophobia is problematic. Then again, they were planning on having a Yosuke romance option, and dammit I hope they put it in Persona 4 Rewind/Rerun/Whatever they're going to call it. They probably won't though. He's kind of an asshole to Kanji at times. But other than that, he's a pretty solid character. And he often gets his comeuppance for all the wrong he does. Yosuke makes for a solid bro, thus why many call him Brosuke. He still has some nice moments too, of course, especially with Teddie. And I think ultimately he means well.

Takemi is our highest rated social link that's not a playable character. And it's no surprise that it's the Goth doc. She's a slightly shady doctor who gives you access to special medicine to use. She's also the Death Confidant from Persona 5, and the most popular Death social link by far. Granted, we didn't rank Pharos, but still. I doubt he'd be that high rated. She's also one of the romanceable confidants. Her confidant itself is pretty nice, as we learn why she's a disgraced doctor, as she tries developing medicine for a young girl named Miwa. As far as shady doctors go, Takemi is the best of them. Persona 5 really did an excellent job with its confidants.

Her dedication to saving Miwa-chan is what nets her top ten of all time status. Nothing at all about being her guinea pig, or simping for her outfits, or markedly choosing to romance her from first sight other options be damned. Absolutely nothing to do with her stiletto heeled shop silhouettes or sexy mature voice acting. Best doc.

Too many Persona 4 characters left but I suppose it was always going to be with this board

I feel this about P5 given how even the bad and boring ones made top 30 tbh

I was Akechis 98. I put him below Nozomi even because hes that awful. Sad to see my top 3 Chie go out, but she was never as popular on this board. I had Adachi in 16th, Yosuke in 15th and Takemi in 22nd.

I didnt even realize Ann was still left. How? She couldve left P5 right after Yusuke joins and I dont think anything wouldve changed at all since the game forgets her other than Morganas simping
