Ryoji was in my top fifteen/twenty for a bit because he was a great link option in FeMC Portable and I really enjoyed the time hanging around with him, even choosing to romance.

While not a dramatic fall, he definitely fell many spots when I saw how much of an eyerolly scuzzball he is in stamdard routes. I can definitely see getting super annoyed with his presence. He's much more tolerable focusing all his attentions on FeMC instead of trying to be a harem protagonist. Again, Portable makes Persona 3 better.

Interesting, thanks. Yeah I figured Nozomi would be down there. He might be most annoying from moment-to-moment but at least he's contained to his Social Link.

kawakami = goated

I didn't know ken was considered so unpopular. I liked Ken and thought his story was well done. I never played the femc route so that probably helps a lot because anytime they try to do a romance with a kid looking character in a jrpg it makes me hate them. Thanks trails

I also had no problem whatsoever with Ken in P3. Maybe a little underdeveloped but he didn't come off as whiny to me at all.

Kamoshida is easily one of the most hateable characters in the series. But that hate isn't a bad thing. He is a villain, after all. Kamoshida is a teacher at Shujin Academy, and a former Olympic Athlete. He's living on his past glory, and now creepily hits on teenage girls. He's abusive towards his team, and he's an all around asshole. When we first meet Kamoshida, he's complaining about the new transfer student (joker). But the first time Joker actually meets him, he's... kind of uncharacteristically nice. I feel like Joker letting Ann get in the car with a teacher alone was a bad idea. And out of character. I mean it's not like he'd get in trouble for getting in a car with the teacher, and it'd ensure nothing sketchy was going on. I'm sure Ann would've appreciated it. Joker originally got in trouble for defending another woman. Why not ensure that Ann is safe, even if he just met her? Kamoshida makes for an excellent starter villain. It really draws you into the game in a way none of the other palace rulers quite match up with. He's an awful person all around, pushing around those weaker than him, making threats, and being very pervy with his students. He makes a great villain.

Easily one of the most vile people in a Persona game. However, credit where credit is due, he is an amazing hate sink. His palace, his shadow, his day-to-day torment of everyone at school, all the piling dread onto the characters, the despair that no one is opening up, that all the teachers and parents know, that his Olympic status affords untouchable authority to abuse and rape and break students, and would've gotten away with expelling them, too, if it weren't for sudden psience-ex-machina. He is rotten to the core, but makes for an incredibly dark and gripping first chapter.

Sophie is an AI that Joker and Morgana meet in Persona 5: Strikers. She works as an AI assistant similar to Siri or Alexa. She's capable of mapping routes, and doing other things a typical AI assistant can do. But unlike most AI, she's also capable of entering the Metaverse, and fighting alongside the Phantom Thieves. She was developed by Ichinose, but considered a failure. Futaba tinkers with her code a little, and finds no signature as to who created her. For most of the game, she has a fake persona. But after Ichinose takes control of her and tries to get her to destroy the Phantom Thieves, she develops a real Persona. Her story bares some similarities to a certain Persona 3 character.

Tanaka is President of Tanaka's amazing commodities, which is kind of like QVC, but only on Sunday's. His theme song is described as either catchy or irritating depending on the protagonist. He's also the Devil Social Link from Persona 3. His social link is pretty solid, but it's his cheesy infomercial-like store that makes Tanaka shine. He's the only store that shows up in Persona 3, 4 and 5. And hopefully he'll return in Persona 6. What would we do without our shady item dealer? Also in the end game of Persona 3, they make a reference to Final Fantasy VI in regards to Tanaka.

I'll be honest, it's been a long time since I've played Persona 4: Arena so I don't remember anything about Labrys. She's apparently the student class President at Yasogami High. In truth, she's actually an anti-shadow weapon who was forced to kill her fellow anti-shadow weapons. She was created by the Kirijo Group. She was brainwashed by a voice in her head, leading her to believe she was the Student Council President at Yasogami High. She gets drawn into the TV world, and the Investigation Team and SEES both encounter her and each other and are forced to fight. Labrys' story is a bit sad, given that she had to kill so many of her own kind. She was actually created after Aigis, and is more advanced. Despite this she uses an Axe in battle rather than guns.

Iwai is the owner of the Airsoft Shop, untouchable, and is the Hanged Man confidant of Persona 5. He's also the highest rated hanged man social link in the series. Iwai sells the protagonists weapons much like Daidara. He has an adopted son, and lets Joker work at his shop part time once he has enough Guts. Iwai used to be in the Yakuza. When he was approached by a woman who wanted to sell her son for drug money, Iwai refused, but the woman abandoned her son and Iwai took him in and returned to civilian life. Overall Iwai is a pretty cool guy, and it's hard not to like him. Definitely one of the cooler shop owners, though it does help that he's a confidant and not just a shop owner.

Yea Kamoshida is an incredibly strong start to Persona 5

#45th: Zenkichi Hasegawa (Persona 5: Strikers)

Zenkichi is a detective who makes a deal with the Phantom Thieves during the course of Persona 5 Strikers. He has a young daughter named Akane. He's the old guy of the group, and he can be a bit of the butt monkey from time to time. He's a bit of the team dad (though they call him Gramps). He often leaves his daughter alone, which gives him a lot in common with Dojima. His superiors are willing to use the Phantom Thieves as scapegoats, but he becomes conflicted by it as he grows more attached to the group, and they spend time with him and his daughter. He eventually awakens to his Persona during his daughter's dungeon, and promises to find her mother's killer -- which he eventually does.

I was pretty skeptical of P5S in many ways, but it's awesome. One major reason for this is Zenkichi, who proved that the modern Persona formula could feature adult characters and it wouldn't be super weird. I don't love his character design but other than that it's almost uncanny how well he fit in.- Colliding

Maiko is a young girl who can be found playing at the shrine. She is the Hanged Man social link. Oops, guess Iwai wasn't the highest rated, forgot Maiko was Hanged Man too. Maiko's parents are going through a separation, and she's having a rough go of it. She wants to run away from home, hoping her parents will notice and make up. Her parents kind of suck, because her dad hits her and for some reason we don't just go nuclear on him. Ahh mementos, you were two games too late. She ultimately decides to go live with her mother, which is probably for the best. Seriously though, where's that revenge site of Takaya's. Cause there's a good target... She's a pretty sweet little kid, which makes it hard to not like her.

Our highest rated character from the early Persona games, which I've not played enough of to comment on so here's a write-up from the wiki: She is famous for her rather unwavering and relentless optimism, something which begins to break down in Eternal Punishment. Maya Amano is a cheerful and compassionate woman, and works as a reporter for the teen magazine Coolest. Maya is also known for her motto, "Let's think positive!" Maya often takes the role of a leader in the group, even in Persona 2: Innocent Sin where she is not the protagonist. Her unstoppable optimism and kindheartedness inspired and encouraged the group throughout the events of the game, making her an unforgettable force within the world they inhabited. Maya also often cheers the party up with her stuffed rabbit doll, which she calls "Mr. Bunbun." This doll evokes memories of her father.
Maya functions as the silent protagonist in Persona 2: Eternal Punishment but still retains components of her Innocent Sin personality. She's also given a mention in Persona 3.

Justine is one half of a pair of twin wardens that serve as the velvet attendants in Persona 5. Justine is more condescending, while Caroline is more Tsundere. The two have very different personalities, though I can never remember which is which. Their eyepatches mirror each other. They even have their own social link, which is similar to the outings with Elizabeth in Persona 3, where Joker takes them around town. In truth they are each one half of Lavenza, who had been split in two by the Malevolent Entity known as Yaldaboath. The two are united in the end, and return to their natural form, which isn't condescending or tsundere. Because Strikers and Tactica take place after the events of Persona 5, she nor her sister appear in those games and instead Lavenza takes their place. But they do appear in Persona Q2. Justine isn't as popular as her twin.

Fuuka Yamagishi is the support character for Persona 3. Her persona allows her to track people during the dark hour. She's also the priestess social link for Persona 3. Her social link deals with her inability to cook, and her enthusiasm for tech. Fuuka makes for a good navigator, telling you Persona weaknesses. Her computer skills are slightly underutilized, though Mitsuru does put them to use. Her voice actress from the original Persona 3 is still unknown. Some find her voice in the original slightly grating. When Sees first encounters Fuuka, she has been missing for a few days. They find her in Tartarus, having survived the whole time. A victim of bullying, Fuuka ends up befriending one of the girls who was bullying her. Fuuka has a bit of an inferiority complex, owing to the fact most of her family are Doctors, while her parents are not. She's a bit more reserved than the other girls in SEES.

Fuuka is really cute but very understated compared to most of the other characters.

Zenkichi is so good. Easily the highlight of Strikers, which was in general a pretty solid spinoff. I also rated Akane really high.

On the other hand, I really did not care for the EMMA plot. I rated Sophia and Ichinose incredibly low; I think I may have actually been the lowest rated for Sophia.

Fuuka is such a strange character choice. All the other playable characters in Persona 3/4/5 roughly correspond to anime archetypes, but Fuuka is justa somewhat offbeat girl. Not even charmingly offbeat.

Oh nice I was the highest for Kamoshida. He was just the best villain the series has had so I had to give him a big shout-out

Chidori is our final member of STREGA. She's constantly dressed in a gothic style dress, and is a bit unusual. She is Strega's equivalent of Fuuka, capable of detecting life and even generating it. Up until she meets Junpei, she's not that interesting of a character. But when she does, he and she hit it off. Of course, it doesn't start off that way, as she holds him hostage during a full moon mission. But she begins to care for him. She sacrifices herself to save Junpei against her former comrades, and the twos personas combine. In FES and in Reload, she can survive under the right circumstances, though she will retain no memories of Junpei.

Bonafied, Mona-Fied! Morgana is a cat (despite insisting otherwise) who encounters Ryuji and Joker inside Kamoshida's prison. He's also a bit of a simp for Ann. What he's best known for, however, is probably telling you to go to sleep. Despite this, he's a pretty good partner for Joker. He even goes to school with him (Props to the kid who sits behind Joker who never tells on you the whole game. Either he's the biggest bro ever, or he's scared to death of the kid with the criminal record. We may never know!) Morgana and Ryuji often get into fights, and there's one really annoying part of the game where Morgana leaves the team. But other than that, he's not such a bad character. He's the Persona 5 Mascot. Plus c'mon. It's kind of funny that he turns into a bus and a helicopter. It's also thanks to him mentioning pancakes that they figure out Akechi is a traitor and could hear him all along. Such a great plot point tbh, you think nothing of it in the moment. Funniest thing of all though is probably five words: It's time to button mash.

Welcome to the Velvet Room! Igor has been welcoming us to the velvet room since the beginning. Persona just wouldn't be the same without the long-nosed master. A servant of Philemon, he's taken a bigger role in Persona 3, 4 and 5. With his biggest role yet being in Persona 5. He always has a couple of servants himself, often named (like him) after characters from Mary Shelley's Frankestein. He's not really anyone's favorite character, as his role is still that of a side character, even after five games. But there's just something about the way he welcomes you to the velvet room -- which has taken many shapes and forms over the years -- anytime you enter. He has been a truly remarkable host.

Kawakami is your homeroom teacher in Persona 5, and at first she's not very welcoming to the new student. She doesn't take her job very seriously. She's also the Temperance Confidant for Persona 5, and among all the Temperance Social Links, she is by far the favorite. Which isn't a surprise. But to talk more would spoil for those who have yet to play the game. Her being a maid is kind of funny, but also slightly depressing if we're being honest. She's a teacher who doesn't make enough money, though she does have a sympathetic reason for doing so. Joker hires her as a maid along with Ryuji and Mishima, and this leads to her confidant. It's kind of a funny part of the game. Though the fact that she's datable is slightly creepy. She also lets Joker slack off in class, though given his grades, it's not exactly that bad. She does have some growth over the course of her confidant, as she becomes a better teacher. The confidant is genuinely funny at least, and it's hard to hate her even if it's kind of gross that she could be dating a student.

Ms. Toriumi is our highest rated teacher, and the homeroom teacher from Persona 3. She's also the Hermit Social Link for Persona 3, and she's absolutely hilarious as Maya, an online trash talking chick that you'd never expect from her. But as the link goes on you can tell it's her from the way she talks. Though the fact that she's talking to what she presumes is a high schooler is a bit creepy. Let's be honest. Doesn't make it less hilarious, though. As Maya she speaks in 1337 and for those of us over the age of 30, we remember that time when everyone was talking like that. I do wonder what it is with Persona and homeroom teachers that are absolutely a little too into their students. But I digress. She's a genuinely funny storyline, and it's fiction so we can enjoy it for what it is. Also get bent Kenji. You fell in love with a teacher, but a teacher fell in love with Makoto.
