azuarc 03/16/25 9:55:00 PM #1:	Hello everyone, and welcome to the promised reverse ranking which is a follow-up to the one we ran 4 months ago and serves as a potential prelude to VGMC19. Explanation of a reverse ranking below. This RR represents a chance to give a test run to some songs you were considering for VGMC, or just to toss some tracks out you like. There is no hard requirement for which tracks you propose, what their intent is, or basically anything else...with one request that was not present before: Please do not nominate any songs over 8 minutes. Sudden, unexpected long tracks make it hard for listeners to plan out when they have time to complete a block. (The long track from the previous ranking was definitely cool and deserved it's #2 placement, btw.) You may nominate up to 5 songs, however due to likely popularity and keeping the list manageable, there is a possibility I may cut to the top 4 or even 3. I'm hoping not to, and it really depends on how the numbers work out. I'm just not setting any hard numbers until I see what I have to work with. If people really turn up out of the woodwork, I might expand the list or even the size of the blocks, but the last one was 125 songs in 25 groups of 5. We ran seven total rotations and most of the ranking completed in about a week. I will probably let the ranking period cook a little longer than on the last one since I know some people were surprised how quick it ended, so feel free to earmark yourself for a few more sets than last time -- or give me a range. If you would like to be part of the "clean-up crew" instead, let me know. For nominations, please submit your songs by day's end, Wednesday, March 26th. I have less work on Thursdays and Fridays, and can hopefully get everything set up for that weekend. Okay, and now for the general stuff: . What the is a reverse ranking? A reverse ranking is a ranking topic where the nominator doesn't do the ranking. The people replying to the topic do. Basically, after deciding on which songs are in the ranking, you agree to take a segment of the ranking where you will get some number (probably 5) of songs and you need to rank them +5 to +1. This will only represent a tiny portion of the list, so you are then welcome to accept a new segment of the ranking. Eventually every song will be part of enough rankings to form an aggregate score. Uh...translation? Tell me if you want to rank crap to decide who wins. But not yet. We're doing nominations first. Ooh, nominations! Yippee! What can I nominate? Whatever you want, but I'd prefer if you stuck to things that were in the general sphere of video game music. I'm not going to make any strict requirements about this (remixes, licensed tracks, etc). Just don't be annoying for the sake of seeing how far you can push the envelope. New: Please do not nominate anything over 8 minutes. You are welcome to nominate up to five tracks, but please put them in order in case I need to reduce the playlist. I will adjust to find a good number to work with. There's some math involved here, so this will be based on general responses, but I like numbers that have prime factors I can easily work with, like 125. (Please try to put them in the order you want initially so I don't have to re-order these things 30 times.) Preferred format: Game(/source/artist) - Song - Link How long do I have?
