This is why doomerism is death. Imagine if state AGs and nonprofits listened to the doomers who say it's not worth challenging anything because he'll just ignore the courts. No, we should be challenging each and every power grab because he hasn't completely commandeered the courts yet and things can be stopped that way.

People reallllllly don't know how much the federal government and government money is involved in everyday life.

Cutting that off would've hurt/bankrupted a lot of rural health centers. And that's one piece.

I'm in the unfortunate (albeit temporary) situation of being stuck in a close-quarters living arrangement with parents, and my mom's suddenly developed a habit of watching Hannity every night like clockwork. So I do not look forward to having to listen to his bullshit spin tonight while I'm sitting in the other room trying in vain to mellow out at the end of the day.

I am concerned that this is just being rescinded so they can write a more specific and detailed order. One of the legal challenges to this has been that it is so vague no one in the federal government really knows what to do with it. I would not be shocked if this is tried later with a more specific order.

But I dont know that, and I dont want to rain on any parades. The fact that this is withdrawn for now is a victory I will take. And we in the public should push back on every one of these stupid, clearly illegal orders. Maybe it made a difference here. Maybe it will with the next one too.

I know that, having been a constitutional lawyer for 20 years. You know that. That is why I said clearly illegal orders in my post. The question is whether the rule of law is actually going to hold under a tyrant. It is unfortunate that we have to question that in America in 2025, but we do.

I can absolutely see Trump trying this again with a clearer order to see what he can get away with. Or, just bombarding people with illegal orders to exhaust the opposition.

Edit-and looking at the admin comments, looks like they are just withdrawing the memo, which they may or may not clarify.

Again, I agree with you this is all well outside Presidential authority. I just dont think Trump or any GOP member of Congress cares.

You overestimate their ability to fine tune this. They've also been using AI.

Trumps whole plan is just spaghetti throwing. A lot of the stuff he wants to do isn't gonna happen but he can claim victory when something does and blame democrats when it doesn't.

Maybe I am not making myself clear. I dont think they are smart, or somehow have an ability to make want they want to do legal with a re-write.

I do think that GOP Congress and Trump courts are looking for any excuse to let him get away with illegal shit, and one way of making it more palatable to them is by a re-issue to try to address one of the legal challenges against it.

This demonstrates one of the two big weaknesses of fascists: most of them are incompetent idiots who don't have a clue how to actually run a country. The other is that many of them, despite being politically aligned, hate each other. Any resistance to the Trump regime needs to take any and every opportunity to exploit these weaknesses.

ABC news website is reporting this too. The arguments from DOJ as reported also make it clear that not even the government lawyers arguing for this know what the hell this EO means in practice, or what programs it will actually impact.
