Knuckles/Rouge. They weren't bad once you got the hang of it, but they were by far the slowest segments in the game. Plus, I actually found the Tails/Eggman sections fun

Tails/Eggman for sure. Awkward controls and scoring mechanism and just generally unfun gameplay.

Even if you didn't like Knuckles/Rouge stages, they generally had good mobility and could be completed pretty quickly.

The mech stages felt like a chore and they were only made worse on all the other ports. You can thankfully mod the PC version and fix them but even then they feel really out of place.

To be honestly I never really had any issues at all with the Tails/Eggman stages, and really for the Rouge/Knuckles stages the only ones I actually had a dislike for were the last ones for each and they was just because they were TO FUCKING BIG

Other than that, I liked the Knuckles/Rogue levels. Incredible music. Every track was a banger.

Knuckles and Rouge I guess. Some of the bigger stages can keep you wandering for a while. And getting stuck on a planet in Mad Space is a fate worse than death. Plus some of Tails' levels have rad music. Both types of stage are fine though.

I'd rather play a hundred mech/treasure hunt levels than a single Big fishing level anyway.

Didn't really like the mech gameplay. I just want more regular platformer. The sonic/shadow levels were regular run & jumps while the knuckles & rouge levels were more collectathon style.

The mechs just felt out of place.

I enjoyed exploring the Knuckles and Rouge levels. I actually am a freak who prefers them to the Sonic and Shadow levels. Mad Space is a total disaster of a stage tho I agree. And their stages had incredible music even though Hunnid P (Knuckle's stages rapper) has kinda shown to be a huge asshole in recent years. If they ever remake the game, don't expect him back.

I really do not like the Tails/Eggman stages at all.

I share your opinion. While I just thought the knucks and rouge segments were ok, I did not like those tails and eggman sections at all. I liked e101's segments in sonic adventure 1 more in comparison.

All these years and I still like sonic adventure 1 a bit more than part 2. I wish tail's sonic adventure 2 segment stuck with the racing against sonic segments like in adventure 1, or replace sonic with eggman. (And on the opposite side let eggman race against tails I guess).

I have unfond memories of getting stuck on Knuckles' and Rouge's stages. The mech stages were just OK, but the treasure hunting could legit get you stuck and was never fun.

Honestly though the non Sonic levels are overhated. I love blowing shit up in a mech. Yes they're clunky, I won't deny that, but it's not that difficult to clear through the levels (Fuck A ranking Cosmic Wall Hard Mode though).

Treasure hunting level fall off quicker, but most of them are fine.

the hunting stages are mostly small and can be completed in under two minutes usually. it's mostly just uninterestingly circling the stage three times in an optimal fashion

Surprised to see so much hate for Robotnik and Tails levels. I never had any problems with them.

I liked Knuckles and Rouges levels too for the most part. But getting an A rank on them was a painnnnn. Also they should have been like in the first Sonic Adventure where the radar would go off for any emerald shards that you were near instead of in a specific order.

I agree with this

In adventure 2, you play as sonic for barely 5 mins, before you are thrown into a tails and knuckles levels, and their levels are typically twice as long as a hedgehog level

I liked SA1 Gamma levels, but my brain shuts down for Tails and Eggman levels in SA2

Each gameplay style has good and bad levels, but I think tails and eggman suffer the worst from the bad ones. The worst level in the game is still Mad Space though

I played SA2 for the first time super recently, but I feel like people ITT somehow have a ln insanely better memory than I do about these games >_>. I feel like the worst Mech stage was worse than the worst Treasure Hunt stage, but on average the Treasure Hunts were more of a pain.

They tweak movement and physics so the mech gameplay doesn't feel as stiff and getting hurt by an enemy doesn't completely drop the pace. There's some gameplay tweaks like having movement speed tied to how many rings you have, and one mod fixes broken lighting in some stages to match the atmosphere of the Dreamcast port.

Mad Space wouldn't be so bad if the controls didn't get hella wonky on the spherical and oblong planets. Trying to do anything on the southern half of the spherical planet is a nightmare. Everything else about the stage is fine.
