Let's say Kamala wins, but the Republicans take the senate. Can Joe Biden change cabinet members before the senate changes, and let Kamala pick her cabinet and the Dem senate approve them?

I'm pretty sure this is possible. You can retain members of the previous cabinet (like Obama with Gates) and they aren't subject to another Senate confirmation vote if you do so as far as I can tell.

Looking back, I'm confused about the democrats strategy. They basically allowed Biden to go unopposed during the primary by discarding candidates they didn't like (RFK Jr. for example) only for him to drop out and pick Kamala who wasn't even on any primary ballots. If Biden willingly dropped out, why did he run in the first place? If they pressured him to drop out, why let him go unopposed up till them? Either way, the democratic candidate is now someone who didn't even participate in the primary. Was the purpose "to gauge interest, but in the end of the day you will vote for who we hand pick in the general election"?

And about RFK Jr. After he went independent, the dems tried to sue him off the ballot here in NC and failed. Then after he decided to remove his name from the ballot, they sued to keep him on and failed. Seriously, what was the point?

And RFK Jr is a failed spoiler attempt pushed by Republicans, in no way is he relevant to a Democratic candidacy. If someone better than Kamala was available for Democrats, they would have stepped up the moment Biden stepped down.

Because things changed. People forget that Biden gave a really solid State of the Union Address not that long ago. He looked good and (reasonably) energetic. Then the OLD narrative took hold, and he blew his chance to dispel it.

If Biden had put on a good performance in the debate, he'd still be the nominee.

Kamala winning ends the Casual Revolution era of 07 to 16 and then the casual double down of 16 to the present. My reasoning for why she has a chance to win.

Social media jealousy, misinformation, and anger is the number 1 reason for maga. It started with the birther movement imo + a popular celebrity with a then popular tv show tweeting about it.

1) I live in a swing state of metro Atlanta, and I am seeing more and more signs in historically very red areas (east cobb county for example) and there is Harris signs. More Trump, but enough Harris.

2) Early voting turnout in Georgia is among the best in the country. This historically favors dems.

3) The breakdown of these early voters is about 56% women here. Thats really strong for Harris

4) I want to see my polling place when I go vote on Tuesday. If i see 50% women there, he loses imo

I see some cultural zeitgeist changes at places like work/online/elsewhere that make me think Kamala has a great shot

1) Earlier this year there were a large amount of youtubers making videos about being done with the platform.

2) At my job in metro Atlanta, I see way more silent Harris supporters who when we are eating lunch together kinda just roll their eyes when the one loud trumper guy "everything is so woke now" (or some derivative) doesnt stop yapping. I do think there was some secret quiet trump support in 2015/2016, but again i see it the other way around now way more. Political pendulums swing.

3) I subscribe to some local Atlanta news stations and watch their 2 minute uploads occasionally. When Hillary and Biden were in 16/20, lots of dislikes on these videos. Kamala videos get a few, but WAY fewer than prior eras. Either the bot scripts aren't scraping as much anymore, or fewer people are hating

4) Specials like Joe Rogan's standup bombing with a lot of reviews talking about how "2014" it was. Same with Jerry Seinfeld recently walking back that college campuses are too woke.

My cultural theory is that we live in the current zeitgeist, and remnants of the most recent completed era. The past three eras were 9/11 to casual revolution of 2007, then 2007 to 2015/2016, and 2016 to 2024. When 2015/16 happened the post 9/11 era finally felt like it ended (if i recall the 9/11 tribute that year was much smaller due to Trump, democrats started to forgive W Bush to agree around that time as well because of how insane Trump is, etc).

If Kamala wins, I do think the Casual revolution era becomes cemented, the casual double down becomes the remnants, and the new era begins. I'm hoping I see a light at the end of the social media addiction culture. A lot of these right wing youtubers start to slim down the same content over and over, and more people abandon mass internet. The next era might be the dead internet era, which i am all for.
