Spotify subscriptions will become a little more expensive next month as the audio streaming service plans to raise its membership prices for the second time in less than a year.
Starting in July month, Spotify's individual plan will jump $1 to $11.99 a month and its Duo plan will increase $2 to $16.99 a month. The family plan will increase $3 to $19.99 while the student plan will remain $5.99 a month.
The increase will help it "continue to invest in and innovate on our product features and bring users the best experience," Spotify said in a statement Monday.
The increase comes after Spotify in April reported a record profit of $183 million for the first quarter of 2024 after growing its monthly subscribers to 615 million, up from 515 million the year prior. During an earnings call with analysts, CEO Daniel Ek said the company is focusing less on gaining subscribers and concentrating more on revenue growth.

Their next month profits need to be higher, because it's not enough just to be making profits.

Chasing that perpetually increasing profit margin.

Grrr..... it's such a pleasant experience not having to deal with manually managing my music but this is annoying.

I've argued that spotify is one of the few worthwhile subscription services to own but with that said this sucks but it's only a dollar.

I switched to Apple Music a couple of years ago. I'm sure they'll raise their prices to keep up before long.

I'm old. I've only ever downloaded music or use YouTube with Adblocks.

I get that not everyone cares, all corporations are evil, etc, but if you enjoy music even a little bit why are you continuing to support Spotify when they continue to fuck over artists?

Is there a way yet to transfer your saved Spotify information to Tidal ? I want to switch but I have over 1400 songs and playlists saved to Spotify from 9 years of use, I'm kind of miffed about losing all of it

How easy is it to export songs and playlists over to different platforms now? I remember having to export everything from Google music to Spotify back then and it wasn't entirely smooth. Lots of missing or mislabeled tracks

Been doing this for years. Started with all of my own CDs before giving them all away, now it's just borrow and rip.

Does Spotify get significantly better if you pay for it? Cause whenever I've tried to look at it they just have like 4-6 songs from a band, no full albums, and it just seems pretty pointless.

At least Youtube doesn't withhold whole albums (unless there's premium access only albums I've never encountered)/only allow limited access to a band's catalog, they just make you deal with ads.

I keep my music in my own files, fuck spotify.

Just unsubscribed. Will come back when they offer me some 3 month deal for the price of 1.

Now, I think its still a very good deal to have unlimited music for just 12 bucks which is half of what CD used to cost. Problem is too many subscription services add up.

I have had premium for about 7 years now and prior to that used the free version on desktop for about 6 years. The obvious and biggest perk is no ads which the free one has. Paid also has very high streaming quality (if your internet can support it).

In regards to access, when I used free on desktop I had full access to everything but I think if you use their apps then it is limited mostly just shuffle access. I am not sure if that has changed at all in the past 7+ years since I used free. So, when I used to use the free version my only limit was that there was ads and a lower streaming quality.

Whenever I've tried to use it they didn't seem to. Only select songs available and as Daki mentioned on a shuffle system.

Like when I showed my friend Sleep Token, he looked them up on his phone's Spotify and there was only 5ish songs there (think it was mostly singles from the most recent album) and they've made 3 full albums.

The most expensive I ever remember buying was $20 for a two-disc set. Most expensive for a single disc was $18. Of course, that was this century. I dunno if they were more expensive in the 90's or if they were just cheaper where I used to get them (Walmart/Target).
