I mean, makes sense. People fake disabilities to get advantages in line, and that hurts other guests' experiences.

I imagine this is a situation regarding people who make videos or social media posts about faking it. Feels like a Tiktok trend waiting to happen.

This is specifically for their line skipping program that is for people with developmental disabilities and not physical ones. People have been abusing the service for sometime now which is what's lead to these crackdowns.

As someone that has been on disability from practically since birth I can tell you its pretty easy nowadays to actually check this information. I was jokey jokin' with my earlier post but truth is vast majority of us on disability really do have medicare and/or medicaid insurance cards in our wallets at all times. It'd imagine they could set up a kiosk where you log into whatever state medicaid you (or your kids) got or medicare's website, the pad or whatever they have set up verifies it, you get a little sticker/tag/bracelet/whatever the hell saying you were verified and then you are good to go.

I have a physical disability that makes it harder to get around. But I can get in and out of rides if I am just careful, and I can stand in a line with minimal leaning, so I wait in line like everyone else. I have been to Disneyland and World tons, and in spite of the difficulty I leave line accommodations for people who actually need assistance.

All of this is to say: I have zero sympathy for any of these jerks who pretend to have disabilities to get special treatment. If I can manage, they certainly can-and there really are people who cant. Ban fools who do this kind of thing all day long.

Universal has a third party verify disabilities prior to issuing the disability pass (which ironically you need to wait in line to get reissued every two weeks.)
So how people are faking disabilities at Disney is beyond me, unless Disney is just going to say anyone that their minimum wage employees think aren't actually disabled are committing fraud. You don't have to be in a wheelchair or use a cane to get a pass. So I can see it backfiring spectacularly on them if they're standard is "I think."

There's definitely disabled folks not on disability/Medicare though, I don't think the Disneyland guys can make that a requirement. Idk how I'd prove it without a doctor's note

Lying about a disability tells me that person isn't a good person at all.

Requests for accommodations tripled since Disney went to the paid Genie+/fastpass system. So probably faking to save money.

They are also putting limits on parties - only 4 guests with the disabled or just immediate family members.

And they probably have plenty of video proof that many have been lying.

We just back from Disney. One morning we were having a small break. We were sitting in a low traffic area with tables. There were a group of college kids that sat down and one was obviously way hungover, definitely dehydrated. Within minutes what we think was a supervisor (had an earpiece) went over to the group and spoke with them. Then someone else, and finally a security guard who said something about getting the kid on an IV in first aid and escorted them off.

There is no way they dont know who has been abusing the system and it is getting out of hand. If you are in the park your every move is being watched. Im sure they already have a list of people that will be insta-banned if they try it once the new rules go into effect.

I'm not sure which is worse. Faking disability, or rich people "renting" out kids with actual disabilities so they can skip lines and justifying it by saying that without them, the kids could never afford to visit disney on their own.

Rich people pay the Disney guides that give them line cutting on everything. No need to rent a kid. The line cutting by the guides is miles better than the disability one.

Edit, we have been going to Disney for years. Used to be a rarity to see the Disney guides out. Now the place is practically lousy with them. Rich people know thats the way to do the parks. No backtracking, the guide takes you right in to every ride.

The line cutting lines are killing the point of cutting lines, from what I've read. Tiered priority is gonna result in people spending several thousand dollars to spend most of the day in a line. Fuck Disney.

I hear each state can individually determine whether or not a person has a disability.
Now Im all for taking out those who are cheating to skip lines. I think Disney should do this in conjunction with some practices that could help people whose disabilities are sometimes perceived as invisible. Dont let someone skip a line, but maybe if its a long line a person cant stand, a give that person a space to wait while the rest of their party goes through the line. Alternatively, for single-party groups or situations where the family cant leave the person, allow them to contact Disney to have special pass to calculate wait time that the person spends in the waiting area for those unable to use a queue.

How do they determine who is disabled? That should be determined by a doctor, not an over-worked minimum wage employee. Certainly they should at least ask for paperwork.

This reminds me of the guy with a disability who was beaten up for taking a handicapped parking spot. The guy who beat him up thought he was faking it after the victim stood up out of his wheelchair. The victim had a respiratory problem that made it difficult to walk a few steps without getting badly winded which was why his doctor provided a wheelchair.
