Sucks. I liked eternals. I do think it would be best if they were part of some sort of space avengers team before a solo project to get broad audiences into them

To be fair, they did take some legitimate risks. The eternals director had only ever worked on small character dramas. The marvels attempted to tie two TV properties into a movie franchise. They had plans for all sort of side characters spin-off movies like echo, ironheart, and agatha.

I'm guessing safe movies here means hiring directors that just do as they're told to make action movies centered on the characters that have traditionally been the biggest selling properties.

Any movie is a risk if it's a shitty movie. On the opposite hand it's a guaranteed hit if it's a good movie. Those go without saying. Maybe don't make shit movies.

When your options are Fill-in-the-Blank-Man 7 or digging up some obscure character, you really can't keep drawing crowds forever.

But then again, a good one in three characters was already "Who" before their movie. Probably not for actual comic fans, but for a normie like me, I mean, I'd never even heard of Iron Man, and then there was Ant-Man, the guy I'd never heard of, whose power was shrinking, and who named himself after an ant. >_>

That second part is absolutely not true

The Eternals cliffhanger can easily be resolved in an Avengers movie. With the Eternals being more supporting cast than title characters. Like how the Eternals should have been handled to begin with.

The MCU fell into the same trap that the comics did a long time ago. They became unapproachable for potential new fans because there's way too much prior content to sift through.

That and a lot of the recent movies haven't been very good.

From a general public consciousness level, even that might be generous. Before the MCU, the A-list was just Superman, Batman and Spider-Man. Aside from the X-Men, hard to fully gauge the next tier. Can probably include Wonder Woman and the Hulk from prior TV incarnations. Maybe the Fantastic Four from their early 00s movies, but that's about it.

Multiverse shit sounds interesting on paper but I've been there and it always ends with Superboy Prime punching reality, Spider-Man giving birth to himself, Batman and Batman teaming up with Batman...

And then there was the series that was literally a celebration of the greatest sitcoms in history, until it wasn't and it just became a generic Dragonball Z story.

Ant man doesnt sound bad. He got 3 movies and 2 team up movie roles. 5 appearances total is more than you could ask for with ant man. Wasp also got 4. That and quantumania ended closed enough (which was a problem).

Captain marvel had 2 movies and 1 team up movie role. Plus 2 minor appearances. She also ended on earth and in peace

Eternals got one movie. The movie is left on a cliffhanger, with the team split everywhere and the earth being shaken apart. While this happens an earth sized alien says he will come to judge the earth. This is a rough spot for these characters and the comtinuity of the universe. If not an eternals 2, something here needs to fill in the gap

Both of those will still get future team up roles

Tbf, most of those characters have had confirmed follow-ups for a minute. Bucky, Zemo, US Agent, Red Guardian and Taskmaster will all be in Thunderbolts. Falcon in Cap 4. Agatha's spinoff show should be coming this year. And Spider-Man 4 is almost definitely happening.

The only real question marks have been anything related to the Eternals (including Black Knight and Blade, who we have no idea if his movie will ever release) and Hawkeye. I believe Shang-Chi's sequel just got unofficially announced not too long ago.

Have they announced their plans for the Kang Dynasty movie now that Majors is donezo? Obvious answer is the multiverse lends itself perfectly to a recast but theyve also botched Kangs appearance in every piece of MCU media so far so I dont think anyone is excited for him.

Eternals was DOA. I enjoyed it enough and was waiting for all the Marvel movies after it to mention the giant fucking alien sticking out of the ocean, like even a passing comment or something. But nope, they just pretend it didn't happen or it's in a universe that we never go back to ( -_-)

I've heard they're looking to move away from Kang, and most likely they're going to go with Doom instead.

Honestly, considering they're trying to do Secret Wars, it's probably what they should have done in the first place.

Tbf, COVID fucked up their release schedule heavy, and it seems like they're still trying to get back on track. We likely would have seen these characters much earlier if not for that.
