They became unapproachable for potential new fans because there's way too much prior content to sift through. That and a lot of the recent movies haven't been very good. That and the recent stuff was just a bad idea to begin with. Multiverse shit sounds interesting on paper but I've been there and it always ends with Superboy Prime punching reality, Spider-Man giving birth to himself, Batman and Batman teaming up with Batman...
