Im not even into Dune but one night I watched Jodorowsky's Dune and it was absolutely fantastic.
It was a 2013 American-French documentary film directed by Frank Pavich. The film explores cult film director Alejandro Jodorowsky's unsuccessful attempt to adapt and film Frank Herbert's 1965 science fiction novel Dune in the mid-1970s. I was a Star Wars fanatic kid in the early 80s, and when I saw Lynch's Dune it completely blew my mind. It felt like the polar opposite of the Star Wars style space opera and I loved it. it is super serious? Not sure if you're asking if it's serious while thinking pt 1 wasn't or if you're asking if it takes itself so seriously you'd find it hard to enjoy. I mean, yeah, the storyline is pretty serious and there's a lot of consequences as a response to actions. Zithers posted... does it have a loud droning hans zimmer score? I give you I'm not the biggest fan of the score. Though they do use that, uh, acapella woman vocalizing loudly to very little other sound for some sort of hilarious times. I think it was just hilarious to me because they were serious moments, however there was a time when I laughed and no one else did, ngl. I imagine the music for pt 2 wouldn't be much different from pt 1. Zithers posted... are there a lot of scenes with people whispering in giant empty brown/gray rooms? No Zithers posted... is there a lot of explaining space geopolitics? Not really, most of that was established in pt 1 so pt 2 is mostly the consequences of those geopolitics. I have to say I am really surprised someone would accuse Part 1 of explaining space geopolitics. The opening of the Lynch movie explains more about the politics and setting than both of the new parts combined. I think the new movies are very streamlined and focused on the story of the characters, not politics or setting.

I have to say I am really surprised someone would accuse Part 1 of explaining space geopolitics. They definitely explained the relation to the various houses to the Empire, Arrakas, it's long-time owners, who is getting those mines and "why", and Paul was constantly taking in information about the planet, species, spice, as well as having people explain things to him. I don't know the book series so it's true I don't know what all info was left out, I just felt like there was more in pt 1. --- My metal band, Ivory King, has 2 songs out now - allmylinks.com/ivorykingtx (all of our links there so you can choose which one you'd prefer to use) ... I don't think it's better, but I do enjoy it for its 80'sness, its Lynchiness, the weird bit with narrating the character's thoughts (you get their thoughts in the book too, but it doesn't translate to film well), Agent Cooper as Muad'Dib, and the old school special effects.

Maybe Part 3 will be mostly geopolitical lore after Paul does what he's about to do. Yeah I think the new movie explained the minimum needed to experience the movie as was intended. It wasn't realistic to actually cover all of them book and so it wasn't attempted. Lynch tried to cover a lot more of the book and it fell apart quickly and then got a really bad ending. That said, despite being a shorter film, it does cover more of the politics and setting. --- Favorite Games: BlazBlue: Central Fiction, Street Fighter III: Third Strike, Bayonetta, Bloodborne thats a username you habe - chuckyhacksss ...
