Have to give ID to websites to access them pretty much turning every website into a privacy nightmare since they will now have your name, I.P address and what ever you on that site.. and i expect there is going to be something hidden deep in all the fine print of the law that will better allow websites to sell your info to advertisers

Literally every website on the entire internet will be blocked until you show them your proof of ID. You have to show your government issued ID to gamefaqs or you are done here. And any other site you want to keep using

How would this effect foreign sites that aren't based in the US, since this is a US law and the penalties for not following it wouldn't apply to them?

I am not sure. But they may actually have to demand ID from US citizens. I heard some people claim this could impact the entire world because a lot of the major sites are all in America

It's already expected to pass the Senate with all the support it's gotten from companies and senators. The House is probably our only hope, since I doubt Biden would veto it.

But then that runs into issues like privacy laws in places like the EU and IDs from other countries being different from American ones.

It would lock most, if not all, US-based websites behind your ID. You don't give them your ID, you can't access them, which is an obvious major invasion of privacy.

Doesn't it go House first then the Senate then the Presidente who if refuses to sign goes back to the House to change it? If that is the case I doubt the Demo Senate will pass this and the House already did. If I'm wrong please tell me.

A member of one US chamber of Congress can introduce a copy of a bill even before it finishes in the other. Regardless of how a bill is introduced, it must be reconciled between both chambers to be able to pass them and onto being signed by the president.

Almost all major media sites are based in either the US or China. China because they want this shit, and the US because we (didn't) have it.

Yeah I'll just stop using a lot of shit when that's required, all my information is already harvested & I see no profit from it. Giving my ID & getting double screwed from that is a no go for the Internet at large. Our only hope would be enough people don't want to do this & Internet traffic in the US drops off a cliff hurting advertisers so they try to undo it

Much of the backbone of the internet is based in the US. Many of the root nameservers, as well as standards organizations like ICANN and W3C.

if this passes my guess is basically every corporate technology department is going to meltdown and call these people idiots.
this would take so much work to implement even moderately safely
