Former U.S. Rep. Beto ORourke (D-Texas) expressed support Friday for a campaign asking Democratic voters unhappy with President Joe Bidens handling of the Israel-Hamas war to vote uncommitted in Michigans Democratic presidential primary on Tuesday.

I do think it makes sense for those who want to see this administration do more, or do a better job, to exert that political pressure and get the presidents attention and the attention of those on his campaign so that the United States does better, ORourke said in a Friday interview with the Michigan Advance.

ORourke said he read an opinion piece by Dearborn Mayor Abdullah Hammoud endorsing the campaign that was published in the New York Times this week, which he said was well-written and well-argued. The campaign has also been endorsed by U.S. Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Detroit) and former U.S. Rep. Andy Levin (D-Bloomfield Twp.).

Not a huge flip considering Beto hasn't done anything of note since 2018 but it does demonstrate some of the moderate bench backing pressure on Biden over the Gaza situation. Considering the large Islamic bloc in Michigan I am interested to see how things shake out.

This isn't relevant to a Dem primary, though. That's the point. Beto agrees Trump would be worse and that Biden would be endorsed if he's the nominee, but until then, it seems fair to pressure him internally.

He was a standard suit fossil fuel dem for his career, I think his turn on guns was really the only broadly leftist position he took and it was in a primary. He's nowhere near as far to the left as, say, Tlaib.

If the pressure is protracted and Biden calls for a ceasefire i don't think it'll harm his bottom line in November. As it stands I think the white house is rolling with the idea it won't hit them, but we'll see Tuesday. If the uncommitted ballot doesn't make an impact we'll know the direction they go in imo

If people are going to throw out every progressive thing Biden's done and pushed for for one subject, something that literally no other electable candidate would campaign on, and will not change and explicitly get worse under Trump, I don't really know what to say.

Cutting the nose off to spite the face does not work especially when we've seen how many rights and protections were destroyed in just 4 years under Trump.

To his defense there are literally Trumpgressives in this topic telling people not to vote in November.

1337toothbrush is a known Trumpgressive pretending to be a progressive and telling others to join him in November to not vote. That or his other gimmick of claiming to be a progressive who will vote, but oh so strongly sees the great value in others not voting in November.

In otherwords, messaging to improve Trumps odds. People like 1337 isn't just talking about the primary, they mean the general too. Less people voting improves the Republicans odds.

I don't live in the US and there's a lot I don't know about its election mechanics.

But given this discussion always comes down to "I don't want Trump either but I can't condone Biden's support of Israel, even though it's actually the US itself that supports Israel regardless of who the president is, so I'm going to abstain from voting and pretend that keeps my hands clean."

So, what I said stands. If you are trying to convince people not to vote for Biden, the man with the best chance of beating Trump in November, then you are aiding Trump. Either directly or indirectly, whether you admit it or not. And given 1337toothbrush's history on 261, I'm not entirely sure which it is.

Okay. The primary is what either party has before the general election so its only Biden against other Democrat candidates right now. But Biden is the incumbent and the party thinks he is still the strongest candidate so no serious Democrat with power and stakes will run against him. With that in mind the point of the Uncomitted vote is to try to show with actual registered votes that people want Biden to change his policy on Gaza going into the general election. The outcome of the election ORourke is endorsing Uncommited in has a 0% possibility of impact on Biden v Trump in November.

ORourke has in no way said people should not vote for Biden when it is Biden v Trump in November.
