In I think it's Alabama IVF is now illegal and people there are not particularly pleased about it.

They cited "God's wrath" as a reason for why they can't risk more embryo's being destroyed and as a result hospitals are now ceasing IVF services because if anything happens to those embryo's they can be fined and/or jailed.

It's the same reason why red states who "still allow" abortions for medical emergencies/life of the mother, such as TX, have stories of women literally bleeding out in parking lots because the doctors are scared that if they act too soon the state will prosecute them.

Part of the reason the Roe decision was even initially decided was to assuage the fears of doctors who wouldn't provide the necessary medical care to their patients because they worried they might be jailed for it.

They don't want people who wants kids to have kids but they want people who don't want kids to have kids.

When you look at all the "battles" they wage and what they strive to legislate, they ultimately do not want people to be able to plan when they have a family. The problem is that they have to flip-flop on their reasoning for supporting IVF. Many are literally stating that fertilized embryos outside of the uterus aren't considered human, and therefore don't need to be protected.

They are greedy bastards who only care about material wealth and tyrannical power through influence. Can't expect any sort of consistent ethical practices from them. Literally the party of evil people who hates other non white people living even remotely decently.

Nice to see that they blamed both sides. The Democrats want the extreme policy of allowing third trimester abortions and Alabama accidentally went a little too far by making our current method of IVF illegal or prohibitively expensive.

I don't think people are putting off getting an abortion until the third trimester out of laziness. I could be wrong, but if they're going in that late it's likely something went wrong that made the pregnancy no longer viable.

Or something to that effect, basically nobody is going to put in that time commitment just to arbitrarily discard the fetus off "a whim". It's going to be life-saving reasons because women at that point are committed to the birth.

It's somewhere around 1% of total abortions and done almost exclusively for medical reasons.

MAGAts don't actually care about reality, though, they think every other kid in the hospital is getting killed.

It doesn't necessarily require discarding anything. They could set up an appointment to collect one egg and make an embryo from that. If it isn't viable, just make another appointment. It'll just substantially increase the price of the treatment for those who cant get it on the first attempt

Exactly. Even in those blue states NO DOCTOR is signing off on a woman getting a late-term abortion, unless she's at serious risk of significant harm.

No IVF lab is trying to do this with one single shot, using only one embryo. They're going to collect multiple eggs, and fertilize them all, even if the couple can only afford one. That way, the couple can decide some time after, whether they wanna try implant the remaining embryos.

They take several and implant several because not all will "take". Alabama law says you're killing those humans that do not take. There's no way around this and thus IVF is illegal.

That one woman who miscarried in Texas at her home to later get her bathroom destroyed by authorities and the charge for improper corpse disposal or something along those lines is especially scary to me given that I dealt with a similar scenario this year.

I'm very fortunate our state was able to reverse the change last year. Our state had a law from the 1800s that basically became the new precedent until our courts shifted blue.

Republicans appointed these theocratic judges and now they're upset when even they're too extreme for them.
