It was always going to be Mario Day 2025, just like I said in the topic about "when do you think the Switch 2 will be released".

I always expected it to do that just like Switch did.

Yup.

The Switch 2 is going to absolutely shred the market, but it won't be because of potential vaporware Prime 4 lol.

Sure, I have no doubt it would do crazy better than last games in the series just like Pikmin 4 did, and it's one of the few first party Nintendo games that I'm still excited for, but there's a reason they don't make many Metroid games anymore.

Metroid could be a launch title for Switch 2, but it won't be the launch title. That'll be one of Mario/Zelda, and of course Mario Kart.

Supposedly third party publishers were recently told that the launch was being moved back as well, so I'd say it still counts as a delay.

You could basically make all of the arguments youre making against Metroid against Zelda before the Switch. The key difference being that Metroid just had its best selling game ever! I think for a Metroid game Prime 4 will be huge. It would also benefit a lot from being an early or launch Switch 2 game.

Anyway this is probably the right choice. They dont want another Wii U situation. Wait until the games are ready, the Switch 1 is still doing big numbers.

Is it possible for a Mario to come out so soon? Didn't we just get Wonder? Does Mario have two teams, 2D and 3D? Zelda is almost impossible as a launch title unless they port over TotK.

they do have two teams that do both, the 3D team did Galaxy/3D World/Odyssey and the 2D team did the NSMB games and Mario Maker

I guess they could do a remaster of WW/TP for the new console, what is Grezzo doing?

Why wouldn't it be? FF16 was planned for 2022 and delayed to 2023

Even then it was just a port. If we hadn't have had that DLC i'd have said MK9 was pretty likely as a launch game.

I really don't want Xenoblade X definitive on Switch 1. Switch 1's not strong enough. Needs to wait for Switch 2.

With all the talk of Nintendo wanting to prevent another Wii U/GameCube misstep, I really doubt they'll gamble on their next launch being carried by Metroid. At this point, they have a good five franchises (Mario, Zelda, Mario Kart, Animal Crossing, Smash) that would do a much better job in that role.

I think FE6/7/8 should just get the 2DHD treatment. Again, Star Ocean 2 R really set a new standard to strive for there.

FE4 should get the full mainline modern treatment though. I want that game to turn heads.

I dont think the Q4 rumours were wrong exactly, Nintendo briefed partners about a delay. Things change!

Metroid's always been much more niche than pre-BotW Zelda. OoT and TP were both around the 8 million mark, which is significantly better than anything Metroid's done. Metroid Dread did as well as it did because it took advantage of the massive Switch install base but even then it wasn't able to outsell something like FE3H and nobody would think Nintendo would pull a BotW style launch with FE.

Would Nintendo spend 6 years making a new FE with a massive budget? That's what MP4 is.

I highly doubt Nintendo planned for MP4 to go through the development hell that it did. I mean Skull and Bones is supposedly a "AAAA" game that took a decade of development but yet I don't know if Ubisoft is internally projecting it to be going to be one of the most successful games ever made.

6 years is not counting the reboot. It's 8+ with that.

Sure, but that doesn't mean much, since we don't know Nintendo's internal projections for budgets and sales for those games and whether MP4 went through further development issues.

We have been reading rumors about "Switch Pro/2" ever since 2021.
Why would anyone believe any of those rumors anymore if their credibility is non-existent?
How can anyone say "this time those rumors are true!" when literally not a single Switch 2 rumor turned out to be real?

The only way MP4 could take a full 6 years is if it's open world (RIP to another series in that case). It probably just kept getting put on the backburner.

You and me both, but it will never be a best-selling game. Metroid is and will always be niche compared to Mario, Pokemon, Zelda, etc.

Yeah, I imagine Prime 4 is too demanding for the Switch, so they're holding it for Switch 2. Also makes sense to re-release Prime 2 and 3 first so newbies can catch up. I wouldn't be surprised if Prime 2/3 Remastered gets announced soon (or right after Prime 4 gets announced).

BOLD Predictions:

• Switch 2 releases March 2025
• Metroid Prime 4 and Mario Odyssey 2 are the marquee launch titles, along with BotW/TotK Remaster (60 FPS, QoL improvements, bonus content, etc.)
• Fire Emblem Awakening Remastered releases Summer 2025
• F-Zero SX releases Fall 2025
• Mario Kart 10 releases November 2025
• New 2D Zelda, 3D Kirby, Star Fox, Pokemon release in 2026 (in that order)
• Smash 6 releases in early 2027

3DS remasters is a big potential market. There's a ton of good stuff we could get there, especially from Nintendo, Square, and Atlus.
