I argue against it. Worked in the industry as my starting point in the job market. Most of the slobs i know still works these roles in their 30s/40s and then come home to Fortnite and turning their bedroom into a coffin for their farts.

The same with how they are sympathetic to housekeepers, agents that have to work as front desk staff at resorts, etc. It's just people such as yourself who are a vocal minority who think its alright to go to great lengths to make everyone else miserable. You're not gonna believe me but I'm a pretty caring person and look after the disabled and the elderly for a living. I actually got positive feedback literally today from a client in the form of an email. Can screenshot it for you if you want

I always tip 15% in dine in restaurants.

What fucking pisses me off is many fast food like locations asking for a tip. Coffee at Starbucks? They ask for a tip.

my favorite is pizza chains. Motherfucker, I elected to pick the food up myself so I dont have to pay a delivery fee and a tip to the driver and you have the balls to ask me for a tip when picking up my pizza?! L

Personally, between my strong disdain of tip culture and the clown world takes coming from the pro-tip culture advocates here ITT I'll always tip no matter what, and always willing to tip generously for exceptional service.

People like that guy, hockeybub, and that Erica person are just debasing themselves and making everyone in the industry look like entitled, elitist, greedy brats. At that point it's not even a matter of helping out people who make less in hourly wages, they actually think that waiters/waitresses are somehow entitled to more money than everyone else struggling in minimum wage jobs.

Working class traitors, I'd say.

Id definitely disagree with this statement The people against tips seem to be the sensible ones on the topic. Many have even mentioned ways that would be better for everyone involved is stead of just insulting others

And to further add, I'd be down for replacing tips with a flat service fee that's pooled together and split among the waiter staff at the end of the day. Make it fair for everyone.

Not sure why people get legit mad if their tip is small or even nothing. People can be cheap. Sometimes they'll get a really big tip, sometimes not. Just make up for it with the next customer.

I don't know why it's based on a percentage of the bill anyway. Is it harder to bring out expensive food than cheap food? A $10 plate of spaghetti shouldn't weight any less than a plate with a $30 ribeye.

They like percentage because it means more money for no extra work. In terms of actual work the kitchen staff are doing more anyway, yet some of the people here think they don't deserve any portion of the tips. If tipping was based on having to interact with customers then plenty of other professions would deserve tips too.

I agree with this Thats the only reason its percentage based. And the people cooking have all the work on their shoulders with no tip (unless they are at a company that doesnt split tips). Though, that said, they usually get paid more. But again, they are doing a ton of work cooking multiple meals at a time, and cooking them well (hopefully) And there are plenty of other customer facing jobs that dont get tips

That said, I dont mind tipping for exceptional work (or even just being a good waiter) I just dont like its basically frowned upon to not tip (even when they were basically non-existent) And I wish they got paid a normal amount so people dont feel nearly forced to leave something extra
