How did I not know these existed it's cats!

the newest Cat Quest was in a recent Nintendo Direct!

No idea the last time I ever watched something like that.

I recently put a game called Cattails: Wildwood Story on my wishlist. It's a "Stardew Valley but" game, with the "but" being that you play as a cat.

I played Cat Quest on mobile, it's quite fun! A little repetitive and simple but still cool and the writing is cute. I haven't played Cat Quest II yet but I've heard good things.

They're making a third one, too.

I can tell you about plenty of other cat games if that's your thing.

Cat Quest is fine. Like, easygoing Diablo with cats pretty much sums it up. I only got partway through II because as I recall it was more or less the same thing.

I enjoyed Cat Quest 1 a lot, but I kinda just bounced off 2. The second character made the game worse, imo, but it's probably fine if you actually play multiplayer.

Okay, I was out earlier. Cat related games I have played on Steam:

Cat Quest 1&2: You know about these already.
Stray: Duh.
Little Kitty, Big City: Absolutely adorable game that only has a demo right now (that sadly got pulled due to the whole Unity thing.) Will hopefully release next year.
The Purring Quest: Not a very good platformer, but the art is attractive and the theming of the game is kinda cute.
Gibbous: A Chthulu Adventure: The cat is a side character, but she's a talking cat who gives her owner crap in this LucasArts-esque P&C adventure.
Gato Roboto: Black-and-white Metroidvania about a cat who can pilot mech suits.
Ato: Another metroidvania. Ato is I think a fox, but it's hard to tell. So samurai foxcat trying to protect his family.
Copy Kitty: Anthro cat who is playing around in a military training sim. Wasn't my favorite.
Cat Cafe Manager: Bought this one for a friend. It's okay.
Night in the Woods: Mae is a black cat person in a town full of animals who are struggling to get by.

also don't forget about A Street Cat's Tale, which is also definitely up there as far as cat games go, though mileage may vary due to the harsh themes (it says a lot that "Its inevitable that most cats living on the streets will starve." is listed under key features jfc)

3 Difficulties (EASY, HARD, DEATH)

That's um... A difficulty mode.

If we're just throwing out names of games, there's a recent release, Mineko's Night Market, where you control a human girl in a town with mystical cats. I don't know exactly what it's about, but it's certainly cat-coded.

edit: Doesn't sound like it's reviewing very well on Steam atm. Maybe wait a couple patch cycles on that one.

very rude implying i wasn't posting actual recommendations, neko navy really is one of the shmups with the biggest impact on the genre in recent years (directly inspiring titles such as nekomimi wheel cross decker and neverawake), and i only have respect for it, and a street cat's tale is my favourite game about playing as any stray animal to this day. decidedly simple, but still far more grounded in realism than many of its contemporaries (including of course stray)

and neko odyssey looks so endearing i was already internally labeling it as a must-play for any cat-lovers off the trailer alone. it obviously looks to be inspired by neko atsume but leveraqes its charm to complement an actual game as opposed to some idle game, and i think that rules

Also to the earlier recommendations, just confirming on Night In The Woods. Its writing is bratty but it's also some of the best dialogue in recent years.

What about that SWERY game where everyone in town turns into a cat or dog at night depending on what you choose. I mean, I assume it's not great, but maybe there's good cat content.
