I didn't let it bother me when I was watching YouTube ads on my mobile app because I would maybe get one ad per video and they used to be skippable after like 2 seconds.

It's been a while since they were skippable that quick, okay I can deal with that it's one ad per video and sometimes it's a 5-second one I can skip.

Nope now If I ever watch an hour-long video, I'll literally get an ad now every 5-7 minutes. I feel like this is a really new development.

I used to not use YouTube in a browser because it wouldn't work properly in the internet app but now I have a newer phone so maybe it won't be an issue if I find a ad blocker that works.

Point is, I'm being driven up a wall by ads every 5 minutes. I'm desperate enough to actually stop being lazy and find a block for it. At least they would get revenue before but now they won't be getting any from me.

Fuck YouTube.

Funny enough I was just reading a reddit thread pointing out that even the FBI recommends using Adblockers.

Highlights included:
  • YouTube's ads are typically for scams or outright Malware
  • Google does not regulate its ads in any way, shape or form, which the above makes fairly obvious
  • Blocking the use of Adblockers could conceivably be against the law, particularly in the EU (I'm taking that with salt personally, everyone online thinks they're a lawyer)
  • Googles ads in general, on their own own search engine, are being overtaken with "sponsored links" to phishing and other scam/malware sites.

It's the detection of adblockers that may be illegal under EU privacy laws, unless informed consent has been given.

The industry is aware of this and trying to find ways around it.

That was also noted. Someone else tried saying that blocking adblockers at all is illegal because of laws in the US, EU, UK, and Australia that say you have the right to determine what information you view.

Like I said, take it with salt. The US one in particular looked more about not seeing porn if you didn't want to, but I only glanced over it all.

Holy f*** I'm going to get this when I get home I swear I just got an ad after 1 minute and 40 seconds of watching a video when it already started off with an ad.

Okay, this is ridiculous.

2 ads at the beginning of a vid. Then, I am looking for a certain moment in the vid, but if you scroll to a later part of the vid, you get two more ads. If you are going to have mid-video ads, have them go by the time watched. Otherwise Im watching nothing but ads looking for only one part I want to watch.

I pay for Premium because I use the phone app too much to not and I personally don't mind paying for YouTube. I know (Re)Vanced is a thing.

I do also block ads on desktop YouTube, so it isn't like I view blocking ads is the same as piracy or some BS.

I thought YouTube ads were excessive over a decade ago and ads on mobile were data and battery hogs back when data was limited.

I usually watch Youtube on my TV's app. For the past few months I'll sometimes get 4 ads in a row. Sometimes all 4 of those ads are 15 second unskippable ones.
Sometimes it's 2 different ads, then the same 2 again.
And sometimes it's a 15 second unskippable ad, followed by a skippable one, followed by another 15 second unskippable then a skippable one.

What are they doing to Youtube!?

Well the pointless war wages on!

Once youtube get rid of ad blockers completely, I'm betting they are gonna up the ad frequency to try and force you to get premium. Imagine them going the twitch route and making you have to watch 10/10 ads in a row, all like 30s to a min long. That was the main reason i dont even watch twitch anymore.

But straight up fuck youtube and the fact it allows scammers and EVERYONE to run ads on their site.

Been seeing this one lately on my phone since ads there seem easy to deal with.. Claims watching 3 hours of videos a day can earn me 200 thousand dollars a year. Whoa, that's totally not going to be complete and utter bullshit.

I'm thinking of just stop using YT on PC altogether and just use mobile.

I too am on Firefox PC and have no issues watching Youtube on it.

I do however have other sites that prevent me from using them because they detect my ad blockers for instance Dailymotion.com.

For those that don't know Dailymotion.com is a site just like Youtube.

Whenever I went to Dailymotion I would get the Ad Block detected warning but I found a neat way around it. In Firefox I went into my add-ons and themes, disabled Ad Block, reloaded the home page of Dailymotion.com, reenabled Ad Block and was able to watch the site ad free.

Try that on Youtube and see how you get on.

Speaking of ads on Youtube I think I set a record the other week when I noticed that uBlock had blocked this many ads on it:
