That base Hitmonchan, to this day, is still my favorite card.

Alright, Base Set has been sorted all the best copies of each unique card I have have been put into a binder in set order. Here's what I'm missing...:

Some of this I may yet find, and some I think I thought I had but were actually Base Set 2 version, but still I thought I had more. Surprised I'm missing a few uncommons. I know Charizard is expensive, but I wonder if it's worth looking into how much it would cost to complete this set.

Are JP cards still sought after? Back in the day, the JP version of any given card was usually seen as more valuable/tradable than the English version. Is that still true?

Again, memories of cards there were actually Base Set 2 made me think I had these more complete than I do. But not TOO bad, I think

I think I have everything up to the Neo series. Might be missing 1 or 2 holos in Base Set 2.

Bought one of those mystery boxes today that has 5 random packs it with a chance of vintage. And now I'm skeptical that the packs are real as I got the Evolving Skies Rayquaza V Full Alternate Art from one of the packs and another rainbow rare VMAX from another of the packs.

I've only ever gotten 1 hit from an evolving skies pack before and I have opened a lot of them

Some of the packs that had no hits in had weird texture and just rough looking borders in general

Nice! In my head Charizards are all still $40 like they were when we were kids.

A little over 100. The price seemed almost too good. But from physically inspecting it and comparing it to fakes online it seems real. The back has a decent amount of whitening on it, thats probably why?

If you are not particular about condition, it is relatively easy and cheap to obtain rare older cards in 'played' condition. And, if you want e series or ex era ones, the Japanese versions are often cheaper if played.

Do you have the pre-release version of Dark Gyarados or the normal version? I have the pre-release version and was a bit surprised to learn that it's worth less

I have several Prerelease Dark Gyarados actually. From what I remember, they were given away pretty freely at Pokemon League events?

I didn't have league events where I lived so I legitimately have no re-collection of where I got mine.

I literally started to collect a bit more Pokemon because of 151. Having played Magic almost exclusively for the last decade and a bit it's pretty fun to just open 151 packs. I don't really care about most of the Magic cards but for Pokemon, even if it's a lowly common like Rattata, it's still a Rattata which is pretty cool.

I've been sorting by set order but it's a pain since I'm pretty sure I'm never gonna get the full set but I also want to get more cards so I'll need to reorder the cards in the binder.

Yep. Parallel is the official term for reverse holos

Ok! Is it fair to say that when it comes to hill rares that come in both styles, parallel is more rare than normal holo?

I never did get a Charizard card.

I stopped collecting by generation2, but I did order them by pokedex number. (except for sets like Teamrocket and Gymleaders)
Still have them in maps too.
Rarest card I got is probably Shining Gyarados
That or the Southern Islands set.

You can complete the first generation sets readily. It's the e-series that's super cost-prohibitive.

True. I actually found a cool local game store that sells vintage cards, so Ive been able to start filling out what Ive been missing and so far it hasnt really cost that much

For Charizards I've got one Base (I know I had two but one is MIA), a 1st ed holo Dark Charizard, and a few others. Grabbed a trainer box of 151 and managed to get two 151 Charizards from that.

Collected like crazy from base probably up to Rocket. Lucked into getting a lot of packs for deals, one huge get was at the Mall of America which had I think 3 Gamestop/EB stores and they were clearancing their base set packs down to like 75 cents. Went to all 3 and bought every pack, best vacation ever.

Also picked up a 1st edition booster box of Fossil when the cards were at a lowpoint around 2006 for I'm pretty sure under $100. Took a look at what they were going for during the peak of the craze (20k...!) and nearly fell out of my chair.
I think I'm maybe 3-4 cards short of having the full set in 1st ed, almost finished it up with singles back then and damn wish I had.

Still hunting down the new S&V 151alternate art Charizard. I have the other two in the set, and the other starters in the set as well. Only missing a few alternate cards outside of the Charizard line.

On a semi-related topic, I'm remodeling a spare room into a card-shop themed storage room. Hoping to find some time this week to go pick up the slatwall to get started.

I have Raichu, but it looks like a fossil version and not base set.

Finally pulled the alternate art Charmander from S/V 151. Just need Charmeleon, and Charizard, and a few much less expensive cards on the backend.

I found a really nice local card and board game store, they have a good selection of Pokemon cards too. Wound up getting some random WOTC cards I need (and 151 Wigglytuff because I knew I needed it and it was cheap).

I got some more of my cards from my parent's... plenty of duplicates, but I was able to find some Rocket and Gym Heroes/Challenge cards I didn't have yet. Also, there's some other pretty weird cards mixed in, like some that look like base set reprints? And not base set 2. Some were even fully holo, if that makes sense?
