Board 8 > Question for Pokemon card collectors

I spent some time and categorized literally every single Pokemon card that I could find in my drawers. Ended up being over 500 cards from mostly the first two generations. Don't have any complete sets but I'm tempted to buy some cards now.

Doesn't look like the local card shops near me have a huge selection of classic Pokemon singles though.

Discovering a local card store has been very good/bad for me, depending on how you look at it. Here's what I got last time I was there:

Nice pickups, always loved Dark Charizard.
My local shop only really carries MTG singles, which given my habit of buying things because they look cool and shiny is probably a good thing for me.

Was also talking to the card shop owner about building some display cabinets/where he gets his from and agreed to try making some rotating display cabinets for them. Apparently the kind with the rotating rows of items are crazy expensive to buy but I think could probably be made for a fraction of the cost, just tore down an old broken 3d printer for the motors that I think should be able to drive it all.

Oh that's cool!! That box has interested me, but it seems like the contents are too focused on playing the actual game for it to be worth it for me.

I sort by set, the numbers going from 1 to whatever pleases me lol

I'm displaying that Mew now. The Dark Arbok is a very old favorite, as well. The OG Venomoth is alright. It's a basic Sugimori piece, but there's something satisfying about it.

Oh I love the basic art on the old wotc pokemon cards, its incredibly nostalgic to me . Plus you get things like fat pikachu that you never see anymore

I got 3 cards yesterday for 1.50. Base set Magmar, Neo Genesis Lanturn, and Neo Discovery Hoppip. Nothing rare, but they're new to me.

I've been trying to ignore this topic because I didn't want to get sucked back in. I lost and ended up ordering some of the last few Bade Set 2 cards I needed :(

This hobby sucks and I hate that I love it.

Had a small game night and broke out the Pokemon Classic collection, and damn I'm pretty happy with that impulse purchase!

If you're really into classic Pokemon cards and can find it on sale for $300 I'd say it's worth it.
Something about having the felt board to play on, the nice damage counters, and the rolling a ball bearing instead of flipping a coin made it all a pretty fun experience.
Didn't know that every card was holo too, so that was a nice surprise.

How was mixing old cards and new cards in the same deck? My instinct were that the newer cards would be so much more powerful that there's no point in using some of the older cards. The Onix included is one of my favorites because of how simple it is, and it beats the old cards by a wide margin.

Seemed decently balanced. I think they made quite a few adjustments, came with a little note that says "Hey, these aren't tournament legal and they don't change the values of the cards they are reprints of."

For example Oak is a support card now and I got rocked by Mewtwo's Psychic getting a 2x damage boost.
