It's been an awfully long time since I've played an Armored Core game. My last one was Silent Line. I loved that ending.

2023 is legit the "too crazy" year for games we've been expecting since the pandemic temporarily ruined everything, it's nuts. Barely managed to clear my plate in time for this and I'm super excited - this'll be my first Armored Core game, as I imagine it will be for like 90% of its massively expanded player base. Can't wait to see what all the hubbub is about!

I don't think I'd say Rain Code is a game anyone has to play!

I'm planning to check out AC6. Only played one AC game before (whichever launched with the PS2), at my cousin's. I assume this'll be pretty different. Curious whether it'll do it for me or not.

Have never played an AC but pretty tempted to grab this day 1.

I've got about a case and a half left. Biggest problem is definitely the load times. Third party Switch games continue to dissapoint me.

Probably going to be busy with Sea of Stars a few days later (which I'm glad is on PS++ and Gamepass so I don't have to feel bad about giving the devs money). Definitely plan on picking up AC6 at some point even though I know I'll be godawful at it.

and Steel Battalion is a 5

Armored Core is like a 3.5. Kinda a blend of a the two, but trends more on the simulation side of things. There's a ton of customization to your mechs and they all look fairly realistic, but there's a lot of speed to the combat while also feeling weighty.

and I'm assuming AC6 will be mission based like all the others and not some world to explore like Souls games

This ones mission based, yeah. Theres no open world to explore, no crazy lore to dive into (tho i guess maybe this time with miyazaki on board), none of the usual fromsoulisms. Just tough as nails mech combat, take it or leave it.

Armored Core was always the very definition of underrated too. Critics and players dissed them for being too hard, too bare bones, no story, weird controls (they were fine) etc, but theres since been a fromsoft renaissance, and people have gone back and given them a second chance, and turns out many of those games were always fucking great - people were just dumb. And now these games went from filling the $5 bargain bins to going for hundreds of dollars on ebay.

And now with AC6 its gonna be really interesting to see this series get its second chance in the eyes of the masses. Honestly as someone who grew up with these games, its a beautiful thing to behold. This is my #1 most hyped game, and i cant wait to get my ass handed to me by Nine Ball

Mission based and deep combat sound perfect to me. I loved elden ring as much as the next guy but generally speaking I don't like open world games terribly much as a concept, I prefer contained areas that are filled with love and detail so I'm super excited if that's the premise

I still have my copy of Steel Battalion. There's just something to be said about the massive controller that comes with the game. I don't think I've ever gotten farther than Mission 7 though.

Use the blade, never stop firing missiles, whatever mainhand is fine

Balteus is an APM check. If you don't press your buttons and make sure to keep pressing them constantly, you're done. If you do he's not that bad.

I beat him but it was cheesy. Two laser cannons, two machine guns, tank wheels lol, Just drove forward and underneath his missiles

Beat Balteus on my fourth try!! Didnt even make any changes to my AC, I guess the one Im already using was perfect for the boss.That was such a cool fight.

I'm stuck on the sea spider now lol

Nvm i beat it. Just used tank wheels again and two songbirds and two miniguns. Maybe i just need to use a big ass tank to fight a big ass tank, and keep the quick nimble ac for the arena

Hoping to pick this up next weekend, going to see how far I can stubbornly get with whatever build I find fun.

PC version is absolutely rock solid from my experience. Runs buttery smooth with frames capped at 120 fps and even has bells and whistles like ultrawide if you have/care about that. I don't use them but apparently the M/K controls are fine too. It's a huge step up compared to FromSoft's usual PC offerings.

Oh thank God I can finally start setting up my 4 Shotguns build.

So what does it mean if I died twice against Sulla and beat Balteus on my first try? (possibly that I was lucky and had the right build but oh well)

My build also seems to suck against 25/Maeterlink in the Arena...

Finally got the game.

Cleared the game up through the Strider boss.

The energy sword weapon gets plenty of use so far.

Sea Spider got me a lot harder than Balteus.

I tried shotguns, not quite sure how they work. They seemed to do quite a bit less damage than gatling guns?

The shotguns you unlock after beating Sea Spider are so much better than the base ones.
