Chapter 3 boss took me a few tries. Was a bit annoying, since it's long, not that hard, and felt like it depended on luck.

Chapter 4 boss got way easier after switching to tank treads lol. Two deaths then victory. Sea Spider still the toughest of the chapter bosses.

Finished the arena too. Final rank was surprisingly easy. No deaths there despite some trouble with earlier ranks at times.

Also, for the first two chapters I didn't realize that sometimes when you choose one mission the others disappear. Is that the case in chapter 1 and 2 or do missions like that only really become a thing later on?

I think they appear earlier on in New Game+ when new paths unlock. On the first playthrough the first one is chapter 3.

yeah they determine which of the 3 endings you get so on NG+ and NG++ you want to make different mission options

I haven't been able to dig into this nearly as much as I'd like, but this game is a total blast so far. Only on chapter 2 but the mech customization and all the different options you can play with is really clicking with me. Super cool to be able to bounce between so many different builds with relative ease even just while going through your first run, and the design definitely encourages doing just that, which is great. (Although hilariously I somehow managed to beat Balteus without needing to switch in some plasma just through liberal use of the spin2win laser sword)

Just finished my first playthrough. Shit was fucking awesome. I ignited the coral and fought ayre as my final boss. Games got dope moral choices

how many ng+ runs are necessary to see everything?

EDIT: also my final build was minigun, songbirds, knife, and laser turret

I'm on Chapter 4 second mission at the moment.

I typically use the twin laser cannons, a large explosive cannon and the blade weapon. Seems to work pretty efficiently.

Upgrades, I have currently have:
Melee weapon damage +10%
Direct Hit damage +15%
Damage Reduction -12%
Repair Kit AP+2000

Balance patch dropped last night, I'm kind of amazed it happened so quickly!

No nerfs but they did buff all the weapons people generally agreed needed it the most (assault rifles and machine guns) so that's pretty sweet! They also apparently softened the Ch. 1, 2 and 4 bosses, though there aren't any hard details and folks seem to disagree on what (and how much) actually changed.

And...the Enforcer made it's point known. Haven't quite been able to cross the finish line with this boss. The best I've down is about 10-15% of it's AP remaining.

It's all been datamined already. Balteus missiles track less, ch.2 takes more damage, and ch.4 deals less damage.

I just saw this! Those are all very fair tweaks and honestly it's hilarious how many people were doomposting elsewhere about Balteus being "gutted" or "massacred" when there was absolutely no proof to back up those claims. I think most people honestly don't realize how easy those first two bosses actually already were upon returning to them after fully learning and beating the game. (With better equipment in tow, to boot)

The buffs are huge btw

The Ransetsu-RF in particular is an absolute allstar now, and you could take it into PvP and mosh a lot of meta builds with it (I did that actually! 21 wins, 8 losses overall, really good results). The Etsujins are the other big winner, as they are now lethal stagger weapons if you got a good finisher in the pocket

The Ransetsu-AR is trash garbage and easily the worst weapon in the game now. The buffs were tiny and it needs way more help than it got. Everything else became significantly more usable and gained a letter grade in value, wherever you'd rank them at beforehands. Good patch!

I was stubbornly using a Scudder in my double melee build as a filler stagger maintain (the only thing these were good for pre-patch IMO) and now my build has a ton more punch, so I'm very happy!
