Would be nice to see MGS4 remastered
Yeah, no kidding. After all these years, the only way to play it by ordinary means is still owning a PS3.

It was definitely Kojima's biggest error...

a lot of people basically wouldn't play 5 because of it...same ting happened to splinter cell: blacklist...

If Konami brought back Hayter to play Snake, it would be so poetic...

Biggest mistake in gaming history? No, not really. I'd wager that Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World was a bigger misstep than replacing David Hayter as Snake.

It was a dogshit decision, I don't buy the whole "oh but it's a middle ground between young big boss and old big boss!" which always came off as a wishy-washy contrarian answer, especially after my dickhead friend started repeating it after hearing it in a couple of YouTube videos. Most of Kiefer's dialogue was cut as well, so it's just like what was the fucking point in the end y'know.

But it wasn't entirely without precedent; Hayter had to audition for Snake all the way up to Peace Walker, and Kojima was looking for a bigger Hollywood name that entire time. I'd even say that 2015 was on the cusp of a new generation of voice talent, except they brought everyone back EXCEPT for David Hayter.

It's an unfortunate omission and I'm still not a fan , but saying it was the biggest mistake in gaming history is a bit silly. It's not even the biggest mistake in Metal Gear Solid 5.

Honestly the biggest mistake in MGSV was releasing it unfinished. Either that, or making it a generic open-world setting. Or the "plot twist" which the trailers telegraphed years in advance, and everybody knew was coming, and it sucked.

nah making the damn zombie game was worse

MG Survive was actually a really fun game with some really good survival game ideas that everyone felt obligated to hate because Kojima had just been fired before its development. And the fact that they charged you mtx fees for stuff like extra save slots.

Fun fact, the PS3 is the only console where you can play every single canonical Metal Gear game. Metal Gear to MGS5, plus Metal Gear Rising whether you count that as a sidegame or not.

That's feels like it's doing Hayter dirty when so many people absolutely loved the work he did as Snake. That blows

Yeah, it really does.

For all of Kojimas good reputation and all the stuff he's loved for, it kinda seems like behind the scenes, he can be a real jerk.

why do a lot of people say this? kiefer sutherland did a better job than hayter would have in mgsv, in my opinion. sutherland was great in mgsv. How about raiden in mgs2 being a bigger mistake?

Hayter began to sound like a parody of himself when it got around to Peace Walker. So I wasn't too bothered about him being replaced.

Raiden in MGS2 was key to the game. The entire plot would have to be drastically different without Raiden.

To address the topic. For a single VA in gaming, maybe.

But i'd say an even bigger one is Nintendo selling out Rare to MS.

Snake might have had more dialogue if Hayter was voicing him. Sutherland was likely too expensive to get as many lines as they had for Snake in previous titles.

I have the same question about Raiden in MGS2 though, and why so many people have a problem with him. There really wasn't anything wrong with his inclusion

Mgs V took a shit. I don't think Hayter could have salvaged the story/plot. The gameplay was excellent but it was missing the lore. Big mistake getting rid of Hayter but that alone isn't why the franchise destructed.

It would bother me more if it was Solid Snake but he never should have voiced Big Boss to begin with tbh. Feel like that only existed due to the Raiden backlash.

Casting Kief as Snake in V would actually a great choice if they still cast Hayter as Ishmael.

No, because it's central to the story of MGSV that you're not playing as Big Boss and aren't going to sound exactly like him.
Kiefer voices both the real Big Boss and Venom Snake tho

No, I'm pretty sure that Nintendo stabbing Sony in the back to announce that Philips would be developing the SNES CD add-on (which didn't even end up happening; all that came of this was Philips' Hotel Mario and the "Unholy Triforce" of Zelda games, both for the ill-fated CD-i) and Atari turning down Nintendo's offer to distribute the NES in the US were both much bigger mistakes.

I don't think David Hayter could fix the problems that MGS5 had and it was an necessary sequel that didn't push the medium anywhere. So his involvement wouldn't have mattered. There's other screw ups that had more of a negative impact.
