Kiefer Sutherland did a good job, when he actually spoke, but he was likely too expensive, and that's why he barely said anything.

Kiefer Sutherland did a good job but it was a big PR and fanbase mistake that got overshadowed by how hard Konami screwed with the project as a whole

Like for as little as Sutherland spoke in the game, his voice is now as synonymous with Big Boss to me as Hayter is for Solid Snake

keifer did as good of a job as possible with the extremely limited script for MGSV. i think it was the weird writing and not letting snake talk that really messed the character up. like UnfairRepresent said, having skullface finish his huge monologue and snake just sits there doing nothing really felt dumb, i thought there was a glitch since usually everything is decently planned out in MGS games

i wonder what the reaction would be if the truth was revealed about venom snake, and when you flashback to the intro then the real big boss is voiced by hayter for the rest of the game. maybe even a further reveal that ground zeroes is venom snake finishing up the "training" to be big boss

Developing it for PS360 was a bigger mistake. And not finishing the final mission of the game. There's no end to all the mistakes made during that game's development. What a shitshow.

David Hayters performances have been really growly and monotone the last few games he did. He had so much more personality and emotion in MGS1-2.

Keifer Sutherland is an amazing actor and was the perfect choice for Big Boss if they HAD to pick someone else, but they barely fucking used him.

Honestly, I don't even think that's the biggest mistake MGSV made. While I was initially very upset about the Switch, Sutherland actually did great for what he was given. It was really the lack of lines that did him in. It feels like they cut out everything funny or even not serious dialogue wise when they switched from hayter to Sutherland.

The Biggest mistake was probably not only not finishing the game, but releasing it in its unfinished state like nothing was wrong.

Well, the thing is, his replacement is Keifer Sutherland, by no means a bad actor.

Compared to, say, Square-Enix replacing Zack with whatshisname and did waaaay worse on new dub in comparison.

For me the biggest mistake was Squaresoft and Enix merging. They took 2 decent companies and now all they put out is mediocre crap (outside of 11/14 and both Octopath games, also haven't played 16).

Speaking of MG, I know the collection 1 is coming out soon.. MGS4 is listed on the website, as well as MGS5 and that other game. Would be nice to see MGS4 remastered. Wouldn't mind playing it on Switch.
