Dave Filoni directed this one, so you knew he wasn't going to mess around. I haven't watched it yet, but I expected it to be great once I knew this was his episode.

awkward thing with this era of star wars is that any new jedi you gotta wonder ".... were they massacred by Kylo?"

and like if you want them to have a future you of course gotta say nah they'll be off-world or something

at least with Clone Wars it was already cemented that so many known characters were all gonna die, but Luke's Jedi Order is entirely faceless

Considering how many Jedi actually survived Order 66 I think most of them will be fine.

we still gotta assign some faces at some point!

definitely not Jacen tho

but I am interested in what other adults would actually be with Luke because surely it can't just be a temple of him and a bunch of orphaned kids. and Jacen would be about 30 then...

Oh yeah I meant to say when he was introduced. Old EU/Legends spoilers:

A child of two of the leads called Jacen who wants to be a Jedi, what could possibly go wrong!?

Weren't there some Mara Jade rumors swirling around regarding the Mandoverse last year? She'd be a perfect example to pitch for that face role.

Yes please.

But yeah, I think the key thing I've noticed with this series so far is that Filoni is a better director than the others, but he also does direct a bit like the show is animated.

Still, this episode delivered in terms of being something Anakin actually did post-redemption. And the more I think about the whole first half, the more I get swept into the depth of it all.

Didn't realize the one thing you said, GMUN, about it being Ahsoka like she used to be. But it's on point - she's chosen to live with her past and her training and her legacy, and it will allow her to not simply float on like she has been

Maybe not the best Star Wars content recently, but it definitely hit the emotional buttons. Hopefully, next episode we get motherfucking Thrawn hell yes

Like, I think what this episode did was bring to terms that Ahsoka hasn't been the character she was in The Clone Wars, and that's totally sensible. Anakin asking what she'd prefer instead of joking - when she's literally Snips... fit well.

Also, I just loved all the callbacks to Luke. "I won't fight you" "I've heard that before". Ahsoka choosing to give him mercy being the thing that made him lose his Sith appearance.

If anything is to be docked from this episode, it's that the next one might overshadow it by having the best two actors in the best two roles.

how do they put on their little clothes

I know last ep we got Ahsoka the White 'n all but I really got a lot of LotR vibes from this ep

also Thrawn feels like he never left, but also damn Baylan continues to be very interesting. I can't help lol at the meta when he rips on Republic v Empire repeating on and on and damn do I want him to save us from this cycle.

I'm just not happy with Sabine or Thrawn. Sabine comes off as a kind of spoiled brat to me; considering her past, I feel she should be a bit more composed and able.

Thrawn comes across to me as just some old dude, when in Rebels he just felt a lot more threatening, physically as well.

The thing that throws me off about Sabine is that isn't she supposed to be like 30 or something? She still acts like she's 17 but it feels like she should have matured a lot more in the last 10-15 years or however long it's been.

Dawson sounded more like Eckstein than she ever has in this episode. I think they successfully transitioned her into being more like past Ahsoka.

And Ezra had some moments where he nailed it.

Thrawn is Thrawning.

This isn't the best show but it's really hitting a lot of good strides.

Like, these hermit crab people are maybe one of the best new Star Wars races we've gotten in years.

Sabine's definitely just been resigned to dying in the other galaxy once she found Ezra. So in that regard I guess there's just not any urgency to spill the beans.

I wanna find Ezra! Not to like...save him or anything. I just want to find him so we can live together and who cares what happens to the other galaxies that I've unleashed Thrawn upon

Yeah I really hate what they did to Sabine in this show.

Anyone criticizing Sabine action there needs to think of they think Luke would have lost his chance to save Leia or Anakin would have lost his chance to save Ahsoka

Heroic characters are always unwilling to sacrifice a loved one and will fight to save them and save the day. This is nothing new and it's garbage that people think this ruins Sabine.

Eh, it's not that she made the sacrifice. It's that all she wants to do is make the sacrifice. She doesn't seem interested in doing anything else now that she's found him. She doesn't want to tell Ezra what's really going on, and she doesn't look too happy that he wants to go home.

I dont like when a show has characters avoid important conversations like that. At the same time I sorta accept that its just how they want to tell the story. Doing it this way is an efficiency - she has to deal with it with both Ashoka and Ezra at the same time. I think that will be an oddly enjoyable scene, should it happen.

e: if you dont like Sabine thats fine too

Not so much I feel, but the big setup mystery is certainly being left for a season 2 to discover. Which I'm pretty okay with because the focus on the A-plot was very deserved, the other thing really can't be addressed that much at this point yet - I feel the visual of the Mortis gods mountain really does say all we needed to know there.

Ezra building a new lightsaber and talking about Kanan with Huyang was great, and Ahsoka telling Sabine that she intends to be there for her like Anakin was. I really wasn't expecting the upgrade to Elsbeth to be the season boss (well until the title popped up and that clicked) and she did it well. Magic saber was sick, realizing the true nature of the zombie Night Troopers was great validation of the relatively small troop because of how it got back real when they got up, it certainly worked as the delay Thrawn needed - only complaint is the blaster doors being INCREDIBLY convenient and really make you question why tf they don't start out closed to block the Jedi's way in the first place.

Also awesome seeing the super strong troopers putting up a good fight to Ezra & Sabine. Obviously knew Thrawn was going to get away but wasn't expecating Ezra to make it home which is pretty poetic - happy for him, would've been sad to get left behind after he was so excited to get back and now he gets to meet home with Hera (tho dude... why did you keep your helmet on).

Wonderful finale for me, but really sad this is the last we'll see of Ray Stevenson who did a phenomenal job this series. Character 100% has to be recast, there's no other way.

alright Leon/GMUN/whomever, I need expert Star Wars fan opinions here (please @ me in your response if so since I won't be checking this topic otherwise)

For background: I never watched Rebels or Clone Wars and I don't care about Ahsoka or Sabine or any of that so I haven't watched this series (also didn't watch Andor, basically I've just done Mandalorian and the Mando eps of Boba Fett)

Buuut I do love Ray Stevenson from past roles he's been in AND I love Thrawn by way of the Thrawn compilation clips from Rebels I've watched on youtube so he's what I was interested in seeing the most

so in your opinion should I just:

-Skip Ahsoka like I've basically done already
-Watch all of Ahsoka because it's worth it for Thrawn & Ray
-Watch only some Ahsoka episodes (if so gimme specific episode #s plz!)

Thanks!

@MartinFF7

It's worth watching. I'm in the same boat as you regarding Clone Wars and Rebels. I think the show does a decent enough job of filling in the gaps where it's needed.

Ray Stevenson is the star of the show, and he's in every episode (if I'm not mistaken), so yeah, watch it all.

I'll answer purely on your Ray Stevenson comment... basically copying Leon.

Ray Stevenson is the start of the show. He was an unknown to me I've absolutely been loving his portrayal here, I really wasn't expecting such an interesting character out of him and finishing the show made me deeply sad to lose him as an actor.

As for Clone Wars / Rebels... there's maybe like 3 key details that could help or provide an impact to the series (not that that's the extent of references, but meaningful things to understand). Basically the concept of who exactly Ahsoka is which you may or may not already know, the ending scene of Rebels (what it means for where Ezra & Thrawn are), and maaaybe the Clone Wars Mortis arc although that last one isn't the most direct relevance bit at least of yet.

Definitely one more thing I can think of but that's probably a bit more work to contextualize and I mean it wouldn't really be that out-of-place to witness it for the first time through the Ahsoka series. It calls back to Rebel's incredible season 2 finale though... but watching that wouldn't be enough which is what I mean by "more work". It's probably more of a reason to be interested in Rebels than something actually needed to understand Ahsoka. Actually this goes for the Mortis bit too.

Also if you like Thrawn in Rebels clips, he's very much the exact same as Rebels portrayed him

I know how Rebels ends re Thrawn and Ezra, and I'm familiar w/ who Ahsoka is/her being Anakin's padawan, but yeah, dont know about Mortis but at least that's least direct relevance like you said...

Just binged this. Pretty sure it's my favorite Star Wars product since Mando season 1.

This is even better than Andor, which was great but also felt like it was great in spite of being a Star Wars title.

Ahsoka feels like the best parts of the Clone Wars/Rebels without the filler/CG animation (which was fine, just not my aesthetic). Good performances all around. Some nice redemption for Hayden Christensen.

Seeing how good this is really shows how Disney should just hand the keys to Filoni. Recast the original trilogy characters and let's do Episode 6.5 right.

Only complaint I could see is if you didn't watch CW and/or Rebels you might've been pretty lost.
