I know this show isn't made for me as someone who didn't watch the cartoons, but I'll still watch since I'll need to know what's going on for the big finale movie.

I'm sure they'll find a way to help people who didn't watch the cartoons get caught up to speed, or they risk them checking out too quickly.

I enjoyed the first episode, but am not entirely sold on Sabine's characterization. Several things just felt a little off to me. She always had a rebel (lol get it) streak but going off and ignoring Ahsoka's request that the map stay on the ship feels off to me. The fact she instantly grabs the lightsaber as her weapon of choice to pursue some droid when the majority of her existence has been fighting without a lightsaber (even when you account that short period of time where she had the Darksaber) also feels weird to me, and was obviously just leading up to the required lightsaber fight with Sith apprentice (who was standing around waiting for her??) Also all these Force people having survived Order 66 really makes Palpatine/Vader/Yoda feel like schmucks.

They did do a good job of making Lothcats cute though! They're not as cute as the animated ones, but still quite cute!

Just watched episode 1, that was great! Production quality is much more at the Andor end of the spectrum, better than Mando and far better than Boba Fett/Obi-Wan. I am finally buying Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka. Really liked Ivanna Sakhno and the great Ray Stevenson (RIP) as the dark Jedi, and the whole cast seems great so far. If I had a complaint its that it lays some of the lore on a little thick.

Squeezed in the second episode. Honestly, thought it was a little worse - probably just because there were some issues with dialogue. I would guess it's either from the direction, or from Filoni writing the show like an animated series, or a combination of both. Some of the lines just felt really stilted - maybe the actors just aren't emoting properly all the time, idk.

Well, I wasn't going to think about it too hard, but:
Darth Maul, while on Rebels, called somebody his apprentice: Ezra Bridger. However, Ezra chose the light. Also, it'd be odd for Ezra to fight Ahsoka - there would have to be shenanigans at play if this were the case. There's perhaps a greater likelihood of it being one of the Inquisitors, such as the ones seen in Obi-Wan. There was one of them who had a lightsaber like that and flew with it like a helicopter.

grr i see the point of disabling Backspace to go back when i accidentally click out of my text box, press back, and lose everything I typed :(

quick rewrite - great ep this week! I like what they're doing with Sabine, training her as a Jedi despite explicitly not having the aptitude for it. That aptitude can be overcome with determination which really opens things up for the better. Kind of a glimpse of the kind of New Jedi Order I've always wanted and hey Ahsoka makes sense to try it.

looot of space chase for the second part which is cool, glad they didn't just get away safely. Lmao with Ahsoka protecting the ship, I can see some people taking issue with it all but I just laughed and enjoyed it.

let out an audible holy shit with the Purrgils oh wow they big bois

only thing that's annoying just what I always get annoyed from this era of Star Wars, that they always have to lay on the New Republic's incompetence so incredibly thick and immediate. it always puts me out of these shows with oh right yeah they have to be shit for the ST

Huyang is great. Tennant is doing well - but if there's one thing Star Wars has done well since the Disney takeover, it's droids.

I think I'm getting closer to identifying what bothers me about some of these casting choices...

Mary Elizabeth Winstead is a little too reserved. She's playing a Hera who stopped being a strong-voiced, and it makes her come across as a mismatch because she doesn't quite have the attitude. Maybe that's a necessary change for development but it feels a little wrong.

The ending had me giddy, I'll admit.

I'm starting to really come around to loving the theme of this show - might be up there with Bad Batch theme and Mando theme for best Disney-era Star Was music.

I wasn't sure to start with the Clone Wars flashbacks, because visually.... complaints about filming in The Volume are finally reaching me because the scenery just looked very shallow and it added to a generic feeling of just being some non-distinct period in the Clone Wars.

Got better the moment I saw the orange paint on the Clone Troopers in the last scene and it actually hit you with meaning, even with Ahsoka getting older and now using her gifted set of lightsabers, as Anakin changes too. When I saw the orange paint I got a little concerned they were just throwing it in for nostalgia because the scenery was the same, but then everything else is clicking to place that yup this is scene really when you think it is.

Also reallllllly love Hayden Christensen lightsaber battles, he's got a great strength on his technique and it absolutely nails the RotS nostalgia along with his changing features, all so good. Also not being de-aged worked when he's succumbing to the dark side lol, had no complaints with his appearance at the end.

After that I actually ended up pleasantly surprised how long the show kept going, there were multiple points I kept thinking "awh this is the ending shot already?" but then it kept going. Instead it really let you breath in the scene with the purgills, I loved Ahoksa's new getup in the robes, and her character gets to feel a lot like the more classical Ahoksa and less-so the purely stoic version we've mostly been getting. She feels more serene with what's happening and it's pretty perfect.

Great ep!

*edit* also loved Anakin flashes as Vader and absolutely on-point with the music throughout this show

Yeah, that was really great. I had a good feeling about this one because they did pre-screenings at events like they did for the penultimate Mando season 3 episode (easily the best of that season) and I doubt they would do that for a trash episode haha.

Loved the Anakin/Vader transitions, and the de-agong with them not doing it when he was dark-sided worked really well. Hayden Christensens best performance in the role for sure. I also really liked the second part of the episode with the Purgills, I thought the visuals were breathtaking and the music was excellent.

Tonally I think this strikes the perfect balance of being a bit more serious and harder-edged than the other shows and movies from ROTJ on while not going to the full Andor/Rogue One level. It is probably the closest Star Wars has come tonally to the first two movies in a long time.

On the New Republic, I think its necessary to show its problems in order to highlight how something like the First Order can come about. Its also regrettably pretty realistic both in terms of our own history (that Star Wars has borrowed liberally from since day one) and in terms of how it probably would go given the fictional universe history with both the state of the Republic pre-Empire and how entrenched the Imperials made themselves. I think there were probably many in the Republic who just wanted to get back to the old ways without fixing what was wrong as well as people who didnt think that what we would call denazification was worth the investment. Like I said unfortunately quite realistic!
