Good for her!" instead of "Oh, a cult manipulated and took advantage of a woman and her circumstances to trap her into their sect through a feeling of "belonging"." I don't like the film very much at all, after the cliff scene I feel it takes a drastic downturn. I expected way too much because Hereditary is my favorite horror film and I am have since been going into almost every A24 produced film thinking it'll be just as good or better somehow. Midsommar was the first of a line of these that I watched after Hereditary, and considering they share a director I was expecting to love it. I just didn't; mostly for that second half, and a lot for the elongated sequence I'm sure everyone will know without me describing it exactly. It started to feel like one of those "this is art" sort of moments, where the point of film started to be lost for the sake of being artsy. But that said, I do feel the people who subscribe to that first feeling you described by the end are a lot worse than the others.
