TLJ had that whole pointless casino planet segment and the pointless Benicio Del Toro character which offset the kinda cool Yoda scene and neato Luke force duel at the end. At least Rise was consistently awful.

TLJ tried to be a bad Star Wars movie and was mostly succesful

I definitely dislike TLJ more but on objective quality levels TRoS is probably worse.

The Last Jedi was so much ass. And I am sick of people acting like it tried to do new things. Besides shitting on one of the worlds most popular heroes it did nothing new or good .

Wasn't Mark Hamill so dissatisfied with how Luke was portrayed in TLJ that he disassociated himself with the character by calling him Jerry Skywalker, or is that a Mandela thing I stepped into?

Pretty much, right before it came out. He said something mildly okay about the movie. Not even that he liked it. And TLJ forgot about how he went on and on and on about how it was horrible . And it was.

RoS was complete fucking shit, but to give it the faintest bit of credit, TLJ left it with next to no plot threads to build from. Either way, both movies are terrible.

How can someone look at TLJ and think that the people who hated must be bigoted. Finn and Rey were the main character of The Force Awakens. They were supposed to be the new face of Star Wars, a diverse and dynamic duo. But Rian Johnson ruined their arcs and reduced their roles.

Finn was sidelined for most of the movie, stuck in a pointless subplot with Rose. He had to relearn the same lesson he already learned in The Force Awakens. He had no agency or influence on the main plot. He deserved better. John Boyega himself expressed his frustration with how Finn was handled. And they made him a coward again. This man faced down the baddest man in the universe. And injured him. Then they next speak to each other again.

Rey was also diminished by The Last Jedi. She was no longer an independent and strong heroine, but a fixer-upper for Kylo Ren, an abusive villain who violated her mind and body. She spent the whole movie trying to redeem him, even though he showed no remorse or change. She lost her identity and agency to his manipulation. She deserved better too.

Like he is the run of the mill abuser , and then sick as Reylo were all over that shit. Like people were either making excuses for the horrible shit he did. Are talking about having abuse fantasies, about it. Fuck that shit. Fuck the people who pushed that abuse, Fuck Johnson, Fuck Guy Richie, And Disney for that.

It's definitely a toss-up for me between RoS and TLJ, BUT I ain't disputing the results.

TROS is the absolute worst film of them all, period. Attack of the Clones *might* be tied with it. Unless you just like seeing Ian McDiarmid, there is nothing good about TROS...at all.

Mark Hamill also disagreed with Luke's direction in Return of the Jedi and wanted to play a Dark Side Luke.

I think people can look into what he says a bit too much. He has had disagreements all over the saga. The most disappointing thing for him in the ST is that he barely had any scenes with the OG cast which for sure is a missed opportunity (also the fault of TFA lol).

He was barely in the other two movies so there's nothing else for him to really talk about. He's not talking about this stuff as a fan. He's talking about it as an actor.

For one thing, the integration of Marvel-style humour really put me off.

I actually liked how Luke was portrayed in TLJ, though I understand why many did not. I think jaded Luke made sense. And the Snoke, Kylo, and Rey scene was great. Everything else about the movie was pretty bad though. But at least it had a few redeeming qualities. TROS has absolutely nothing. It's just awful through and through. The only reason it was less disappointing to me is because I waited a year after release to watch it and knew everything about it by then.

I love the force awakens, the last Jedi, and solo. I hated rise of skywalker

TLJ had some flaws (literally the entire Finn arc) and somethings I disagreed with (killing Luke), but it's still a competent movie.

RoS was a fucking disaster on basically every level. I'd argue Attack of the Clones was a better constructed movie and it's my least favorite Star Wars movie.

It's often overlooked that JJ Abrams forced things back to the status quo twice.

TROS is painfully obvious since it happened within the same trilogy. But he did the same thing with TFA. It's pretty obvious that the movie absolutely disregards everything from the PT and Abrams has no interest leveraging any of it. No sign of Coruscant or the new Senate. Just some random new planet gets blown up and we're told that the First Order is now basically the Empire. All of this happened in TFA immediately and it was given credit at the time due to the distaste of the PT still in people's mouths.

The original draft of Episode 9 even had Coruscant in it. Which he completely scrapped.

Absolutely. There have been several bad films in the franchise but none of the main films even come close to being as bad as TROS.

I would understand if Last Jedi is the most hated film but this is asking what the worst film is and that can only be Rise of the Skywalker.

RoS is an all-around incompetent movie. The plot's barely even trying to be cohesive or rational or original.

TLJ is a more competent movie but with extremely questionable writing. The plot is actively going out of its way to disregard the plothooks of the predecessor movie and kill any remaining plothooks for the successor movie.

It's hard to say which one of those is worse. RoS is boring bad and TLJ is excitingly bad.

TLJ has some very dumb plot decisions in it but it's at least coherent. TROS is an absolute, unmitigated disaster the whole way through.

I think TLJ is at least entertaining and has some cool moments.

Rogue One is the correct answer.

Not that its a bad movie. But its the least Star Wars-feeling Star Wars movie.

Funniest thing to me is that it hits everything on the checklist of why angry nerds who think theyre cinephiles dislike a movie but for whatever reason, its immune to those criticisms. Bizarre.

There are video essays, for example MauLers. Even if you dont agree with everything he says (or think he exaggerates some things), youll at least get a feel for what people dont like about it.

Set some time aside though. His videos are long.
