Playing a male half elf and yeah the cinematic camera work and facial expressions leave a lot to be desired I terms of reaction shots. The mocap for voice acting is actually really fucking good, characters like Lae'zel look incredibly alive. But whoever you're playing as when you initiate dialogue will just stand there stiff as a board. And when an NPC says something nice you do an elated grin and when they say something you disapprove of you get an incredibly disgusted face. Makes your OC feel like a caricature, but then your OC's voiced comments in the game world are played serious.

yeah I agree with this exactly. everyone else's dialogue has been great and match up with their lines. but I played the same character in EA and release and I think they might have just done one set of faces for certain race/dialogue options. voice acting is expensive so I could see why.

Got the game to work a few hours ago. Just had to power cycle lol

Kinda upset that *goblin camp spoilers* killing the kiefling guy triggers the entire camp to aggro even though they weren't in earshot or anything. I wanted to stealth kill the three leaders and go about my way like nothing happened and that doesn't seem to be possible. They didn't hit the war drum or anything

Yeah, without getting into spoilers one of the weakest mechanical parts of the game consists of the clumsy and obvious scripting around stealth in quest areas, from looting important items to attempting assassination strikes.

I tried to kill the Hag again at lvl 4 but she still fucked me up. almost to 5 so I guess I'll go finish off the goblins first.

Hmmm concerning loading the game on my Steam Deck and it has a weird graphical quirk now that wasnt there

you have to split your party up to sneak. D:OS2 is the same way but the AI pathing is a bit better around hazards in that game.

I think this is more D&D based though so if you're sneaking around in a group and someone has noisy armor they're still going to detect the quiet people. unless you mean some quests breaking stealth no matter what but idk, that's mostly bosses and they could just force a failed stealth check if they wanted to show it.

What's even worse about that part in particular is that you can choose to leave Halsin in the prison area so you can go stealth, but that essentially doesn't matter and you end up fucking yourself over no matter what. And now any possible side quest, interaction or whatever I could have picked up is just gone.

I'm gonna try and not be too bothered by it but it definitely discouraged me from stealth roleplaying anything ever again unless they announce a fix. I'm guessing it's not intentional cuz if it is then that's just really poor game design.

what happens if you leave him there, does he die? I noticed he can also die if you bring him with you cause he got knocked downstairs a couple times by the goblin boss.

oh, the stealth thing? he does say if you recruit him you'll probably have to kill everyone on the way out

being able to miss recruitable characters is completely normal. In EA I accidentally killed Shadowheart on the ship before I even knew who she was. I had to do all of EA with no healer which is why it feels easy to me now. also did a lot of the early fights with only 2 or 3 people since I didnt have her

If you leave him there, he escapes and goes back to the grove on his own after you kill the bosses

That was the way it was for me, anyway. I got sidetracked with murdering all the goblins and forgot he was even there until after the dust had cleared and he was already gone. He showed up at the grove and everything continued without an issue.

oh yeah if you forget about people or rest too much before talking to them they go do their own shit.

I didn't recruit him. I'm currently battling my way back to the prison area to see what happened to him. The drow lady seemed to have disappeared too, not sure what happened there. It's a bit of a drag rn.

I'm also on the fence about restarting now that I've seen some of the NPCs you can recruit early. I never had the game in EA but I'm playing as a Dwarven War Cleric. I don't see a lot of people maining a Cleric because apparently Shadowheart is pretty good. I kind of like my character though so I might just stick it out and see what happens.

I somehow managed to save the owlbear cub even while murdering all the goblins >_>

That's actually what you have to do to save him. Using a Talk to Animals he tells you this.

It was D&D 2 while this is 5, and it was real time paused while this is tactical turn based.

Oh, I notice they've fixed the achievements. They aren't all displaying as 0.1% anymore

I just noticed you can duel wield hand crossbows. And here I was using only that handcrossbow you get from that demon inside shar's temple.

Unless they've fixed it, hand crossbows don't get the attack roll penalty from Sharpshooter. It's stupidly broken.

We finally got our teams figured out and put down a reasonable schedule for play sessions. My 4-player blind playthrough has officially begun as of tonight. I'm playing a Silver Dragonborn Ranger, not sure which subclass I'll go into, I'll have to peek at what's available. But it feels good being resistant to Cold from my subrace and Fire from my wasteland wanderer perk. Lots of common cantrips and spells use those types lol

Started a 4 player run too. Running a dragonborn paladin, fiance is a gnome bard, and the other two are a tiefling rogue and a drow chaos wizard or whatever. Killed the boss in the intro and got a sick flame sword

We're playing on Tactical and didn't have the intellect devourer on our side for that fight, so uh...it didn't go great, lol. We tried for the boss a couple of times but said "fuck it" when we couldn't get him down. If we bashed our heads on it we could have done it after a while of refining our approach, but we wanted to move along.

It's me as my dragonborn Ranger, my gf as an Elf Warlock, a half-elf paladin, and a half-elf rogue.

I can't find anything about how Scratch's Find Familiar power works.

It just says he'll help find hidden shit but I haven't noticed a difference, it's not like he rolls Perception.

She was rude to me. Would not simp. Besides, my party's full and my gf is playing an elf warlock with cotton candy hair.

I love Shadowheart as a character but is it just me or is she kind of mediocre in combat? I'm in Act 2 and was trying out SH instead of Lae'zel. SH has more spell variety but she has lower accuracy, damage, and can only attack once. Lae'zel has an easier time of just tearing through things it feels like.

I had the same thought about SH, so I respecced her as a Tempest Cleric/Draconic Sorc. We'll see how that goes.

I'm keeping everyone a straight class at the moment but I respecced her to Battle domain.

It's not as many extra attacks as I had hoped but it's certainly better than none.

Also I have her wielding the Mace of Lathandar just for delicious funsies so it's working alright.

I want to go back and get that, but I'd have to fight through the entire creche of Gith now, and I don't wanna do that.

Speaking of that, I'm at a point where I've betrayed both the dream visitor and the Gith queen, and I'm rapidly starting to feel like I'm in over my head.

Trickery Domain is very mediocre. I kept it for story fitting purposes and just kinda made do personally.

if you arent using it already spiritual guardians is the goated cast this nearly every fight damage spell clerics have, especially in act 2 where a decent chunk of enemies are vulnerable to it

If I didn't really care for Divinity 2 would I like this game knowing it's the same battle system.

So I just learned last night that traders level up with you: I went back to Arron after starting the Underdark and discovered that he was selling +2 armor pieces, where before he was selling just +1s. I am level 5, and visited him last just after I reached level 4.

I'm still in Act 1. Got a question or two...

I found a door to the Underdark. I didn't really explore it because I had a ton to explore in the main area still. Do I have to explore it before ending Act 1? Is there stuff down there to do right now or would it be too tough? I'm level 4ish. Although, one of the quests I got in the main area takes place down there so it couldn't be too bad.

I'm a little afraid of accidently moving on and being locked out of areas.

I hardcore RP against animal cruelty in every game applicable and despite whatever circumstance so I relished taking out the Goblin camp outside last night. I was trying to figure out how to poison the barrels but apparently they dont give you XP for that and that wasnt going to cut it for me considering what they were doing to the owlbear cub
