Because liberal is the correct and intelligent direction to go, ESPECIALLY American liberal. Republicans have no place acting in the government.

Right. A republican Congress which had members take the loans and get them forgiven on rr taxpayer's dime. While crying about student loan forgiveness at the same time.

The whole "oh but congress authorized the funds" direction is just bullshit avoidance.

Because congress already shut down student loan forgiveness. So now, you're in the same place as before, but you need to explain why congress thinks business loan forgiveness is lawful and good and student loan forgiveness is unlawful and bad, rather than the court.

Same fucking conversation.

That was part of the original plan, not sure if it was s separate thing or not, but originally it was 10-20k forgiveness and a no interest payment plan based on income.

It takes longer:

But this alternative strategy advocates are coalescing around would be time-consuming and could easily delay any relief until after the 2024 election, Jed Shugerman, a law professor at Fordham University, said. The Higher Education Act requires a lengthy rule-making process that could take about a year and then after that litigation by opponents would likely drag things out longer, he said

Biden wasn't in favor on student loan forgiveness in the first place but realized he had to do the bare minimum at least. He was hoping that $10-20k in relief would be low enough for the courts to accept.

It's not carrot dangling. If you want the changes he is pushing for, he needs the numbers in Congress to actually do it.

Meaning people have to get off their asses and go vote with a firm understanding of how the government actually works.

Meaning you can't ignorantly think, because you voted one or two times that magically that changes how government actually works. Then whine Dems didn't deliver on the impossible with the numbers in Congress they have.

Problem is many don't understand how the United States Government works and get mad when it's pointed out just how much they don't understand with their roundabout "both sides the same" logic.

Same goes for the ones who ignorantly thought Dems had solid numbers to pass whatever they wanted last Congress.

Back in the 90s Biden gave a passionate speech against a bill that would restrict appeal attempts and make it FAR harder for innocent people to get convictions overturned, and time has proved him right.

Biden proceeded to vote in favor of the bill.

Biden has a history of being an awful hypocrite. He's better than the alternatives but NOT someone anyone should support.

FYI, congress actually did introduce a bill in 2021 that would explicitly have allowed Biden to forgive student loans. It got no sponsors and has been sitting in committee ever since:

https://www.congress.gov/bill/117th-congress/house-bill/4797
This bill establishes a program to discharge certain federal student loan debt.
Specifically, the bill requires the Department of Education (ED) to automatically discharge (i.e., repay or cancel) up to $50,000 of outstanding student loan debt for each borrower. Members of Congress are not eligible to receive loan discharges.

Further, the bill outlines the method of loan discharge and excludes the loan discharges from taxable income.

In addition, the bill requires ED to automatically place each federal student loan borrower in administrative forbearance for the one-year period in which ED carries out the discharge of student loans. During this period, payments are not due, interest does not accrue, and ED may not pursue debt collection activities (e.g., wage garnishments).

If education loans really are an "investment in the future", the better idea would be to lock interest at 0% forever.
Maybe even credit interest already paid. Technically, you can deduct it from your taxes, but at "went to a state college" debt-levels, it's usually a worse deal than just taking the standard deduction.
