I implore commentators to create their own list of the 10 most overrated NES games, if they feel this one is unacceptable. Criticism of this list, without putting forth contributing thoughts, negates the weight of your voice.

Super Mario Bros. 2. Havent really played the others besides Zelda.

Hard to choose for me between Zelda II and FF1.

I played FF1 through as EVERY character combination (some more than once) over the years. It was amazing (when it was released, and still good later). LOVED that game.

So normally I would vote for that, and I think it's generally higher on my favorites list, but Zelda II was really the first action rpg, which later because my favorite genre, and it all started with Zelda II.

While I LOVED FF1 it was one of many good rpgs of it's kind at the time (on the nintendo, Sega, PC etc). I loved non-action RPGS of many different kinds (Wizardry/Might and Magic/Phantasy Star etc etc). FF1 was one of many of it's kind, but Zelda II only had battle of olympus really to compare to (and it beat it easily), with very few Action RPG options for many years to come (Castlevania SoTN I think was the first "better" action RPG after Zelda II).

So I went with Zelda II. Funnily enough you could do what I dreamed about back when that game came out. I used to dream of VR in the Zelda II style lol....and now you could actually make it.

If anything, The Guardian Legend is severely underrated. And Excitebike? Who talks about Excitebike?

Out of that list, probably Final Fantasy, but for simplistic (I.E., NES) JRPGs, I always liked the Dragon Quest games more. River City Ransom would be a close second.

I've only played 3 of those games, and the only one I particularly liked was FF1. And out of those 3 I only own 2 of them (SMB2, FF1).

SMB2 and Bubble Bobble are the only ones Ive played.

SMB2 gets the vote.

I think I've played all of those, Guardian Legend is the only one I'm not 100% sure on, and it is probably a toss up between Final Fantasy and River City Ransom.

Those are overrated? In what universe?

I almost never hear people talk about SMB2, SMB3 tends to get a lot more love.

I'm a huge Punch-Out!! fan.

It's not even the second-most popular SMB title on the NES, so kind of no.

SMB2 was the one everyone crapped on for being different and weird.

And I say that as someone who actually liked it.

Same with Zelda II. Almost all the criticism at the time was that it was too different from the original and therefore bad - in spite of the fact that I consider it the better of the two games, I was definitely in the minority at the time.

This some of those titles are underrated.

Now whether or not they aged well, that's a different story since gaming was a bit different back then (many see them as 'too hard or grindy) because we had more free time to play them and they were limited...nowadays the Gaming market is flooded with new titles everyday.
As for topic, I dunno I thought Master Blaster was a fun game, still underrated IMO. Never played BB, RCR or TGL.

I would say Battletoads is slightly overrated, but that's just a personal choice since I feel the TMNT/DD games were better.

I think Gamepro gave a game with no music a 3/5 for sound... so, maybe?

I don't think I can choose between Zelda 2, FF, and SMB2.

It's one of the most popular NES titles. And I've never heard people crapping on it for being different until recently. It frequently makes the best nes games lists too. So your full of shit.

I remember the days of 4chan picking one GameStop location every so often to bombard with "You guys got Battletoads?"

The employees used to get so pissed.

Overrated? Maybe, but still good in their way.

SMB2 is solid, if trippy.
Excitebike is good for what it is: a low-energy way to waste an hour (plus track editor).
Punch Out was (and is) fun.
Final Fantasy had some difficult levels that it felt like an accomplishment to conquer (not so much in the recent remake)...and the old-style pure exploration and questing was fun.

Zelda II I found weird and janky at the time and it hasn't really gotten any better with age, although it felt like an accomplishment to beat. I don't much care about the others and/or only played a couple times.

I probably say FF, but Punch Out is close.

I could be inclined to switch from Punch-Out!!! to Final Fantasy. idk about the whole overrated thing, but the original Final Fantasy on NES is very close to my heart. All of those sounds, music, jingles....countless hours spent with friends just playing up to Garland.

FF and maybe zelda 2 are the only ones that maybe belong here.

smb2 has a decent cult following and gets some love now but it was always a black sheep.

I can see Metroid 1 as being overrated. I like it and don't mind the convoluted maze, but it has critical flaws that are just silly
