Nice video. It shows me I only notice a difference between 30 and 60 when it is slowed down 50%. So I'm just going to continue to enjoy my games and not care about the fps.

You can see over 60fps.

It is why florescent lights suck.

Strangely, I don't notice it in games though. Probably because they don't usually have design choices that revolve around strobing every hundreth or less of a second.

And for that, I am thankful, because real life 60+ fps depresses/annoys/infuriates me. Why would I want to replicate the few things in real life that actually matter for such frame rates?

It doesnt necessarily have to be a serious eye condition. If I dont have my glasses on I cant tell the difference between 30 and 60, because I cant make out what Im looking at to begin with.

If your PS3 still works, and you have a copy of Borderlands 2, start a game, add a second player, and then drop the second player.
Doing that de-throttles the framerate. If you don't notice the difference, well that's okay I guess.

Here's an easy way to tell if you really can't see above 30fps. Play this video at max resolution and look at the lasers around 8:35 or so. They flicker at 30Hz, so 30fps would mean they either appear solid or invisible. Take it down to 480p for comparison since YouTube reduces it to 30fps there.

If it is side by side sure. But people eyes adjust and while they possibly see a difference, it doesn't register for them cause their brain already adjusted to the difference. The only time people would really be able to tell is if you're paying attention to that stuff in the first place and if you have a toggle that can switch back and forth quickly. People really need to get off their high horse about the fos differences.

I mean I guess it's possible someone Europe has an old 50Hz monitor, but I can't imagine many are in use these days.

For a good example, compare the original releases of MGS2 and MGS3.
(I think it actually worked well there though. MGS2's smoothness gave it a very digital feel, while MGS3's clunky framerate felt very analog.)

I claim to see above 60 fps. I prefer to NOT go above that in games, because after a certain point, it doesn't matter to me, due to most real life things above that point being detrimental. Like those stupid floresant lights that blink at whatever hertz they do and just make any office job ten times worse.

So keep your damn ultra high fps away from me. Because eventually, otherwise, the next unreal engine or whatever will include default systems in place to let us all experience that in-engine.

Author oversight and such, as well as anti-muggle sentiment.

Its not an eye issue. Its whether or not you see what you want without suffering the things certain lighting invention curse us with.

Magic and candle lights don't have a hertz to worry about in theory.

There are a bunch of actual medical conditions, like vertigo for example, that make people sensitive to florescent lights.

Saying that they make you sick or bother you is not a good argument against games over 60fps sadly. >.>

Because game designers don't actually emulate the things that would bother people whose eyes are like that.

Yet. And hopefully, not for however long I continue to play games where I at least have an option to leave things at a level where it won't do that.

The over 60 fps crowd tend to be the ones who demand extra levels of graphics. I am fine as long as its good enough and doesn't annoy me. Which hasn't happened yet, but at the rate things are going graphic-wise....

I think most people not seeing it is due to monitor refresh rates. Most of the ones I've ever used basically cap at 60 "fps" so even if something is supposed to be playing at higher fps, it won't show.

Regardless, I care far less about high fps than I care about consistent fps. I can play something that goes as low as 20 fps and not care, but if something is trying to do 60+ and regularly gets choppy whenever the gameplay gets a little intense, that will bug the shit out of me.

Honestly, it mostly depends on the game/genre.

Ofc I can see a difference between 30,60,120 FPS when they are next to each other, but it's not like I notice it all the time and go around "why is this only 30fps".

Sure, the more hectic and intense a scene is, the better is a higher fps. That's stuff you can see or feel, but the difference in gameplay is marginal.

A jump from 30 to 60 fps allows you an average improvement of reaction time of 0.008 seconds or 8ms. A jump from 60 to 120 fps are 0.004 seconds. That's stuff you should only care about if you are over the top competitive.

Probably the only genre I'm aware of in a need of a lot of FPS are rythm games with an high intensity.

What everybody should notice are changes in FPS. If you see something in 60 fps, and the FPS suddenly drops, that's something that will disturb most people.

It'd help if the clip in your first link actually ran at 60 FPS. It's actually like 30-40 FPS (obvious if you've seen actual, consistent, 60)
