I legitimately couldn't give any less of a fuck whether most games are 30 or 60, and I don't really play the genres that actually benefit from 60 anyway.

As long as the FPS isn't so low that the game is a literally unplayable, jittery mess, I'm fine.

I can see the difference if it is like a side by side comparison and I can see when there's a sudden frame rate drop, but if just playing a game and the frame rate is steady, I can't tell if it is 20, 30 or 60 fps.

Do people still say that? LLT has done multiple 60 vs 120 vs 144 vs 240 fps tests and pretty much anyone can tell the difference side by side.

Play a game and lock it at 30 for a few hours, then uncap it and play again. Guarantee you'll notice the difference.

Have no idea whether a frame rate is 30
or 60 while playing a game. Maybe if I had two monitors side by side each with a different frame rate I could tell the difference. But I will never be in that situation.
Play Spider-Man in performance mode then switch to resolution mode.

When you move the camera around in a 3d world 60fps looks smooth and maintains details. 30fps is a little blurry and doesnt maintain details as well. This is easy to see.

I can tell the difference when compared. Especially black circles against white. I assumed when people say that theyre like me and mean if you were to play a random movie or game clip with a bunch of action happening if I could comfortably tell you what FPS it was. I couldn't easily. The end result of that is I really dont care.

I claim to see above 60 fps. I prefer to NOT go above that in games, because after a certain point, it doesn't matter to me, due to most real life things above that point being detrimental. Like those stupid floresant lights that blink at whatever hertz they do and just make any office job ten times worse.

So keep your damn ultra high fps away from me. Because eventually, otherwise, the next unreal engine or whatever will include default systems in place to let us all experience that in-engine.
What about driving? Would you rather see other cars in 30-60 fps or in infinite fps? Theres a correct answer here, its not subjective

I mean..... I couldn't tell the difference between 720p and 480p when it first came out. It took me actually using it for a while to notice the difference when going back to the previous.

I can now tell the difference between 60 FPS and 144 FPS.

30 is cinematic or AKA choppy. 60 is normal. And anything above 120 is just buttery smooth.

It'd help if the clip in your first link actually ran at 60 FPS. It's actually like 30-40 FPS (obvious if you've seen actual, consistent, 60)
I just tested it in a frame-by-frame repeat to be sure and it's definitely way below 60

I was gonna point this out too. I notice 60fps but the game linked in the OP's performance mode runs like ass and also looks it. It's one of those games I prefer fidelity mode for the better consistency (and even then the game chugs like shit in the final battle in the demo).

Locked 30 FPS doesn't bother me. Although I did play Nioh and Nioh 2 in performance mode because I don't care about the slightly better shaders and lighting or whatever "graphics mode" did in that game.

Except... I don't play video games for realism.

I play them to have fun and usually the less based in reality they are the more fun they are. Developers too hyperfocused on realism tend to make bad games because they failed to think out of the box.

60 fps (or 50, in parts of Europe until 2000 or so) is only a thing because that was the frequency of civilian electricity.

Yeah, the PAL regions. Horribly misleading name since those regions got everything late and with a lowered framerate. But on the flip side we usually got the updated versions of many games so it somewhat balanced out.

nearly every phone is moving to 120fps, and is honestly one of the bigger upgrades one can have in a phone.

1 week of that and going back to 60 makes the phone feel broken.

side by side may only be obvious to people who know, but given enough exposure and 30 fps will feel terrible to a lot of people, even if they can't specify what's wrong with it.

I can kind of tell when I'm looking at something around 80 FPS but beyond that...*shrug*

I've really tried. Trying to get monitor refresh rates to match in-game frame rates where I run games at 143 FPS on a 144 Hz monitor to see if it really matters and...it doesn't.

I'm sure people can notice the difference, at least side by side.

But I'm also sure that many, many, many people could not say if a game runs on 30 fps or 60 without anyone telling them in advance, fast paced games like first person shooters aside.

Hell, even the TC posts a "60 FPS video", and now we have a discussion that it isn't even 60 FPS at all, even if youtube says it is one.

If you asked a bunch of normies then I think you're right, but I'd bet money they would fairly consistently say that 60fps is a smoother experience even if they don't know why. The difference is much larger when one is actually playing the game rather than just watching too. Visually I struggle to tell the difference between 120hz and 60hz (mostly from not having many 120hz displays) but I DEFO feel the difference.

Regarding OPs video, the video itself is 60fps but the game does not always hold a constant 60.

This really pisses me off. I hate devs trying to be fancy by making their games look like shit. I don't want motion blur, I don't want camera defects like film grain and I don't want choppy frame rates.

If they're increasing the refresh rate but not actually displaying different images on each refresh, then the animation isn't going to be smoother.
