Do you try to keep everyone alive?

Curious what the consensus is.

I'll try and keep everyone alive, but if I lose a unit on the boss (assuming no rewind available) and they aren't essential for some kind of special ending then I'm probably not resetting.

It's tempting to linger in this moment, while every possibility still exists. But unless collapsed by an observer, they will never be more than possibilities.

I try to keep them alive, yeah, but I wouldn't reset on the final level.

I generally go online to see the alternate endings anyway, so this isn't really a factor.

I generally don't reset when units die regardless of the stage.

This.

However if I were play a run where I'm resetting to keep people alive, I would reset on the final level too. Same standards as the rest of the run.

I used to be a "protect everyone even in the finale" kind of person.

Then I reached the ending of Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest on Hard Mode, and got tired of restarting. I achieved true piece when I let everyone die to defeat the final boss.

Usually I try to save everyone, but Conquest Hard Mode wouldn't allow it.

Yeah, Conquest's Endgame on hard was one of the few times I didn't keep everyone alive. I managed it on Lunatic, but only because I did the 1 turn cheese strat.

I kind of want to do Iron Man run of FE one day, but I've never had the motivation to do it so far.

The only person I've ever let die in a Fire Emblem game was Knoll, and that was because he got crit'd in his very first battle after I recruited him and I was like, "You know what? This dude probably isn't gonna work out."

I've done both, but only once for the latter. My first time playing Path of Radiance where I already lost patience with resetting by that point. Granted I probably only lost 3 units that run total? That was just poor play though.

That was the only time I didn't reset on the last chapter though.

I almost had to do this but instead I think I just paired up my two best units and did an insane warp/dance train to win before things really kicked off.

I did let Marcus die in the final chapter of FE7 the first time I played it though.

Path of Radiance's final chapter was sheer bullshit for 13 year old me. Even with max stats it just came down to Aether rng, physic spam, and tossing your least favorite units in as a distraction. I was not very good at FE games back then so my guys were a mess.

I'm usually a 'keep everyone alive at all costs' person, but the last Conquest map was too much for me and after several resets I said screw it and left a couple to die. I'm glad to see others are in the same boat! I don't know if it was the map's difficulty or I just wanted the game to be done with.

The funny thing is that all of that is a very Knoll way to die.

Yeah, Ashnard is stupid. I don't know why they give you the choice between the three Laguz royals when you're shooting yourself in the foot by not picking Giffca and his high bases against the giant ball of stats that is Ashnard.

I had the same thing with Knoll. He got crit by some skeleton almost immediately because 0 luck.

Ashnard is simple. You just have Ike solo him and spam physics. No one else should ever be in his attack range.

Ashnard isn't really hard, he's just stupid. It's a matter of attacking with Ike and Giffca and their sub 100 hit rates, using Physic on Ike (and Giffca every other turn), and hitting end turn until he's dead.

It wasn't even Ashnard that killed someone I'm pretty sure, not like I remember my first Ashnard fight but pretty sure it was mostly Ike and Giffca only fighting him my first playthrough. No, my final chapter death was Lucia to a random like Paladin because I hadn't trained her that much since it was my very first playthrough and I didn't have like... a full idea on who I wanted to use that run.

Also it was like... 16-17 year-old me, not 13 (I was borrowing the game from a friend).

I guess technically my first FE death that I saved afterwards was Ilyana - killing a recruitable counts, right?
