Match 3 battle of the awkward loops. My poll vote was Forgotten Capital but Shutoko is peak Koshiro, combining piano loops+sound design+dance synths+modern rock into an incredible dungeon theme. I only found it this year and it still blows my mind how it manages to keep building and building! 1:11 in particular is a moment that sends shivers down my spine and expands the virtual space in my headphones. By the finale, a song that started like an underground cave has swelled to the scale of an obsidian tower above the clouds. Waltz of Meditation Part2 is my 1th favorite song in the contest!!! Wow!!!! This is #8, PowerOne is #9, Close in the Distance #10. Really any of those hypothetical matchups could go either way depending on the day. But Waltz has current bragging rights.

It's just such a perfect song. To think that something like the TurboGrafx-16 could produce something that invokes such wonder and awe...songs like this are why I love VGM.

Waltz is kinda standard. Nothing interesting there. FestA's quite a bit of fun.

Suna Gin is alright, but I feel like the other Aka songs we've had are better. Sad Mephisto rocks. So much going on there, and both vocalists do an excellent job.

Oh man both songs in match 3 are great. Really tough choice.

hitoshi sakimoto ^^ I love his chord changes so much I wish the kudo remix of this was vgmc legal. tho this has appeal heavily in how nicely it makes the tg16 chip sing. the detunes and stereo effects make it feel so vibrant

man this match is too big. why did I do that. I love frantic fusion with mathy rhythms of course, but the opponent here is a bit more tight within its genre to what I want out of it. but I can't complain about whatever wins here.

this feels like it would be "the song with words" in an early ghibli movie.
