Along with demon slayer, probably the most popular shows this year. I know you basically only watch romance anime, but I'd just assumed any other site would have people interested in it. Mushoku Tensei is a damn masterpiece.

Rewatching Ousama Ranking so I can watch the second season and know what's going on. Forgot that it's a bit darker than you'd think, but still as solid as I remember.

Finished up megumin spinoff. The later half of the season was better than the earlier half IMO. Not as good as konosuba but still enjoyable and good backstory for the events of the first season.

Yeah, once they leave the village, things pick up a bit.

Birdie wing ended and I feel kinda mixed. IMO the ending was fairly bad and rushed and it felt like the entire drama of the last half of the season could have just been cut out and made a better show. Like, did the golf cancer and losing the license really add anything positive to the show? They could have just let them have a climactic finale in the british open like the characters wanted.

Additionally, no kiss. Wtf, how dare this only be yuri bait. They let on soooo strong and it all amounted to less than nothing. My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined.

The show was still a ton of fun but it feels like it needed a season 3 but it wasn't greenlit so they just rushed through what would be season 3 in the epilogue.

I see some people complaining about Jalter, but almost none Musashi, when Musashi is also in a situation that makes her being summoned problematic if considering current canon. Yesh, I get that Musashi is more "in theme" with the time period, so people are choosing to ignore her.

If anything, not counting when she was created, Jalter has been summoned 3 times already outside of Chaldea's summoning system that I can think of, once at a Christmas event before becoming an Avenger, the same previous Jalter summoning herself in the event where she learns to paint and creates a reverse harem for herself, then there are possibly 2 Jalter's summoned to Chaldea as one becomes Santa Lily and there is never an explanation for why later another adult Jalter is around, then a completely different Jalter being summoned to Pseudo-Singularity Shinjuku.

Of all of these, Shinjuku is the one that demonstrates that, even if possibly requiring specific circumstances, it's possible for another unique Jalter to be summoned outside of Chaldea's system even a Jalter is currently summoned at Chaldea.

Heavenly Delusion finished up and it definitely gets my pick for best of the season. It started strong and only got stronger as time went on. The story is incredibly interesting with all sorts of mysteries but they do a good job of feeding you info at a decent pace and this is the only show in a long time that had me going back to scenes in previous episodes to check stuff to try and confirm theories. The production is also amazing though. Great animation, there aren't a ton of fights but all of them are well animated and choreographed, the dialogue is fantastic and keeps my attention constantly, and the direction of a lot of the scenes is what I would expect from a movie. Just the choice of angles and shots and timing set a clear cut above the average anime.

I don't think I have a single complaint about it. Maru and Kiruko are such a great pair in all situations from silly to casual to serious to sad. It also ends up really organically bringing up trans stuff in a way that doesn't feel remotely hamfisted. The way it ended with Maru telling Kiruko that this version of her is what he likes. Not who the sister used to be, not who the brother used to be, but just what they are right now. It managed to do that without feeling preachy because it's just what makes sense for the character to do and because the brain transplanting stuff is vitally important to the plot.

I wouldn't be surprised or disappointed if this ends up being anime of the year for me.

New episode of gundam witch is out and it does confirm next episode will end the series, not just the season, although that seemed highly likely at this point anyway.

The more I think about the plot, the dumber it seems, which is kind of a shame. Caliburn vs Aerial was a big anti climax. Guel vs Lauda was more of a climax but still very dumb that it happened in the first place. The amount of "think about the future" lines spewed at a mass murderer feels really stupid. Like, theres no world where prospera doesn't either die or go to prison for life.

Additionally, I'm not really sure what the point of quiet zero really is. Like, you could just make a much smaller scale version and take it around so eri can exist wherever she wants without needing to commandeer every machine in existence. For that matter, why even hide that? It's both profitable and humanitarian. Instead you put your daughter that you care so much about in harm's way for what end game? Holding the whole world hostage and looking over your shoulder forever? What happens to eri when you die?

And then somehow the assembly league was able to hide a super powerful orbital laser weapon that prospera just somehow never found out about which completely counters her entire plan. A weapon and an enemy we the viewers have never seen until the second to last episode.

I find myself very unsatisfied with where this show took the excellent setup. It needed AT LEAST one more season if not two.

I agree with everything you said. The show has a lot of wasted potential and the B plot was stronger than the A plot. It's almost as if Eri should have failed to save everyone and the laser should have killed Eri + everyone on Quiet Zero as the story doesn't even properly explain what Quiet Zero is. Hell the story doesn't even properly explain what the goals of any of the major powers are.

Ready for Part 2 of the new Bleach (July 8), but also making time for Fate / Strange Fake (July 2). I am not particularly happy that A-1 Pictures is handling the show (because Apocrypha looked like shit), but I will give it a shot anyway.

Just finished up mashle. It was kind of okay. I feel like the comedy was poorly done. They stick way too long on a single overreaction and every joke is the same joke. The action and world are relatively interesting and I kind of wish it had just been a primarily action show instead of action comedy but even then, it's just ok. I feel no strong feelings about the show.

New anime season finally kicks off tomorrow unless one airs early cause of timezones. Only two days until more mushoku tensei.

I can see why the second Ousama Ranking show isn't as highly rated. It's not bad, but it's nearly all side/back stories.

Also, watched Boku no Kokoro no Yabai Yatsu. It was pretty nice, but I was hoping he'd go a little further at the end. Gonna watch isekai cheat skill next.

Oshi no Ko anime of the year probably.

I was expecting to do only one convention this year, but my sister invited me to come with her to one out of town this weekend, and I also just found out about another one being held in my town besides the regular anime con. (I'll still only be volunteering for one of them though.)

This one has done a good job of highlighting the differences between my regular con and others. While it's mostly apples and oranges, one thing I'm not crazy about with the local con is that it's very family friendly. No alcohol, watch your language, and maybe one or two 18+ panels late at night. In stark contrast, I just left a nerd burlesque show where a cosplayer someone stripped down and bared all - leaving only their Elmo mask on.

Gundam witch finished up and did not have a remotely satisfying ending. Also, wtf no yuri kiss! We get scammed AGAIN! Things resolved by unexplainable (even by the characters) space rainbow magic with no fights and the ridiculous implications that ONE gundam machine with the help of permet ghosts can hack all machines in existence instantly from anywhere is completely glossed over. Also, wtf why aren't more people in jail? Prospera straight up killed an entire fleet of people as well as caused a massacre on earth. Wtf is she doing peacefully in a wheelchair at the end?

In a lot of ways, this is the bullshit happy ending stuff I don't mind, but here it just goes several steps too far.

Might even be a bigger disappointment than iron blooded orphans second season, which I've mostly forgotten. Gundam needs to actually give us a war again instead of this small scale will they won't they bullshit that just fizzles into random space magic.

The entire series was bullshit. Hopefully some other company decides to create an actual space opera because the only still existing space opera IP outside of Star Trek (trying to redeem itself after the past 5 years) and Star Wars (basically a joke IP at this point) would rather sell toys than to create an actually interesting story.

The vending machine isekai first episode was actually not bad. Started a few things of the new season.

Pastry isekai is not bad and not all that pastry related. It actually kind of reminds me of bookworm isekai because the character is reincarnated as a baby and only cares about one thing (books in bookworm and pastries in this one). It has a level of medieval understanding that is higher than the average walled river city with adventurers guild and demon lord isekais. Supposedly it goes a fair bit into politics in the future (so that main guy can acquire more materials for making sweets).

Watched episode 1 of my happy marriage and it's very well made but I'm clearly not the target audience. I might give it one more episode regardless because not much airs on Wednesdays.

1 room hero was a bit better than I expected as well. It's not a 10/10 or anything but it was funny enough to keep watching.

Of course, I also watched episode zero of mushoku tensei which is still GOATed. I greatly appreciate the yuri princess.

Aside from sequels this season so far has been the opposite of last season. Everything here is solidly decent with no standouts whereas last season had several greats a few mediocre anime with only a couple decent shows.

Oh yeah, I did watch the first episode but it left so little impression I forgot. In fact, I can still barely remember what happened. Definitely the weakest of the isekai so far.

Just watched the cleric isekai and it's fine. Doesn't really stand out but it's not doing anything wrong other than ending episode 1 on a cliffhanger. Will probably keep watching.

Jujutsu kaisen has started back up. It's great as could be expected.

Also watched episode 1 of last boss queen which was ok but also kind of annoying. Like, why would the main girl not immediately think to change the story? Whatever, she got there eventually. Less interesting than bakarina, more interesting than that other one from a few seasons ago. Will keep watching for now.

I will say, I'm starting to miss the star power of last season. Nothing aside from sequels really on par with heavenly delusion, hell's paradise, or oshi no ko.

The vending machine show is a thing. Slow season for me until Bleach comes back, though.

Trails Into Reverie is happening on Friday, but I am way behind on that series and will not be able to play that game for a good while.

The rurouni kenshin remake seems decent. This is one of those times though where knowledge hinders my enjoyment. I know a bit too much about actual swordfighting to not constantly be annoyed in the action sequences which looked almost like dynasty warriors here. Even in the opening fight, I'm not a fan of how they show a sword swing, and then cut to the person's wound and blood flying instead of just showing one scene where the swing and the hit occur. That requires actually choreography though.

I started Vinland saga. I'm on episode 3. It's pretty good. Not amazing but at least I know there is still good anime being made now.

The first season of vinland saga gets pretty amazing IMO.

Also started reign of seven spellblades anime and it's a lot higher quality than I was expecting. Actually the art in general for this whole season seems to be exceptionally good in the otherwise just ok shows. This show seems like it could be pretty good though but we will need at least another episode to really know.

The gene of AI first episode is pretty interesting but it has so far what I consider a common issue for morality based sci-fi. A lot of the negatives come from people not using the tech in a more optimal way. Like clearly the show wants to tell a story to make us question what really constitutes us and what can be removed and replaced while still be considered the same person, but in practice a copy of a brain isn't more valuable than a new one made from scratch. Considering roughly 1 billion humanoids exist, the tech to make an AI brain and body MUST be widespread and well understood. If you need a brain to stick in a body to commit crimes, it makes far more sense to create a new one and alter it to be more effective at crime. You can probably even strip away free will and morality at that point.

And that ignores the likely very high price of these illegal bodies and brains they are uploading the data into. You'd need to commit some pretty high profile crime just to cover the costs when you could much more cheaply just convince some poor chump to do it in the first place.

Since digital brains are clearly subject to privacy laws shown in the moms flashback, it wouldn't even make sense to make a copy of some rich person for taking over their identity because you could just use an entirely different brain in a copy of the body.

I feel like ghost in the shell handled this concept more rationally.
