Tonight's episode was very well-edited. I genuinely had no idea who was going to be evicted until the votes started piling in, especially since it's VERY rare these days that the target actually switches after the veto ceremony. It's usually just random meaningless "what if" convos edited in to create false hype.

So today I asked myself, "Who is playing the best game so far?" And after some thought, my answer was pretty clear. And here's my potentially super hot take - it isn't Cirie. It's Felicia.

On the surface level, Cirie is playing a really great game. She has almost everyone wrapped around her finger. They all trust her and tell her everything and do whatever she tells them to do, and the very few people who have tried to oppose her have been able to do very little about it. But sooner or later she's going to start getting caught up in some lies and people are already starting to put some of the pieces together that she's the hub of all the crap that hasn't been adding up and I think that's going to come back to bite her. REALLY feels a lot like Paul in BB19.

Felicia on the other hand has managed to avoid the traps that usually come with being the oldest person in the cast (usually being either a throwaway early boot or a perennial pawn who adds nothing strategically), and this is probably largely due to this cast skewing older. She has aligned herself with some key power players that has allowed her to know almost everything that's going on in the game (the only exception being the Jared/Cirie relationship). And she's being subtle about it, kind of lurking behind much bigger targets in Cirie, Jared and Izzy. She's on very good terms with almost everyone in the house. She used her HoH to take out a gigantic threat but managed to do it in a way where it didn't make her look like she needed to be the next to go and broke that pattern. Based on conversations she has, especially with Izzy and Cirie, she seems to have more conviction in her decisions than Cirie, who has already been letting paranoia get the better of her a bit. And she's doing all this without raising any red flags for anyone. She's positioned herself to go very far and if she does I think she's going to get tougher and tougher to beat as the season goes on. I'd love to see her win this thing.

REALLY feels a lot like Paul in BB19.
The biggest difference being that Paul is a Hantz, while Cirie is not. She's not leading a cult-like mentality of toxicity that ultimately turns numerous jurors against her, and I think she can do the one thing Paul refused to: Be honest. Paul would've won if he didn't treat Alex and Whistle-Nut like idiots on their way out; he lost since he didn't tell them the truth or that they had to go because they were the only threats to him winning (in two different ways).

How's Cirie's legacy holding up here? Has Jared being a shitbag done a number on that...?

And yeah, from what you're saying, Felicia seems to recognize that Big Brother is a marathon, and that being the one in control early rarely works out. Let those people control the game, stay in their good graces, get their protection, then let the "other side" take them out and fill that void yourself, when it's going to be hard for anyone to do anything about it. That is something I don't know if Cirie adjusted to; HayDONE said "Big Brother is a marathon, Survivor is a sprint" as the one fundamental difference.

That said I'm not watching it and probably won't, because Grodner's recurring ableism has become infuriating.

This season has been pretty unremarkable so far. The two houseguests that I had the most strong feelings on are gone (love and hate). And I'm left with a bunch who are ok that I don't feel strongly about either way. The gameplay has been incredibly safe so far. There is still potential for the season, but this has been one of the most undistinguished early games in several years.

Best to worst:
  1. Reilly
  2. Cory
  3. America
  4. Jag
  5. Matt
  6. Cirie
  7. Felicia
  8. Cameron
  9. Red
  10. Bowie Jane
  11. Mecole
  12. Kirsten
  13. Izzy
  14. Blue
  15. Hisam

The worst part of Reilly going so early is that she'll probably never be back. Excellent mixture of dorkiness, snark, and down to earth. Would have been an all-star if she stayed.

I vehemently disagree with you. I think this season has been great so far, and I think Hisam was a fantastic pre-jury villain with a perfect edit and he lasted just the right amount of time to be enjoyable without overstaying his welcome.

Also, I assume you intentionally omitted Luke from the list but where's Jared?

HoH comp is held on Thursday nights, and whoever wins that gets to nominate two houseguests for eviction, along with a new houseguest if the veto is used.

Veto comp is usually held on Saturday, and that is played by the HoH, the two nominees, and each one of them randomly draws a name chip for players 4/5/6. Whoever wins that can take one of the nominees off the block and force the HoH to put up someone new.

The EPISODES are HoH (or aftermath)/Noms Sunday, Veto/Veto Ceremony Wednesday, Eviction Thursday.

So Cameron's noms weren't public until Friday, and they were just broadcast tonight.

So I just watched the episode, and my thoughts are this:

The opening sequence really made me feel bad for Bowie Jane and Cameron, and it DID come across as extremely mean-spirited of the...whatever the Cirie/Felicia/Izzy alliance calls themselves to treat them like idiots or babies.

However, Cameron can't help but be Cameron, and the douchebag that has been a douchebag for five weeks prior to this episode came out when given a little bit of power. After just getting blindsided, rather than make any effort to establish new alliances or suss out any information, he instead makes a big show of hiding his nominations behind Jag and Blue, and then gets to make a big show out of smashing pies into people's faces. He just comes across every time as someone who just has massive main character syndrome, and it makes it hard to root for him, even as an underdog.

Yeah, from what I've read (more feeds spoilers ahead), Cirie's not exactly in a good position. Everyone has figured her out, her two lieutenants are on the block, her son is a tool, she's about to be blindsided by a result, and she's looking like an easy backdoor next week. Jared's done some damage to her legacy, sure, but I think the issue is that she approached Big Brother too similarly to Survivor, forgetting that, if at all possible, you wanna lay low and make jury before you start running shit due to the game being over twice as long as she's used to.

If anyone is watching that Buddy Games show, let me know how bad it is. It looks like a cable imitator from 2002. Appears it's based on a movie from a few years ago that's already been forgotten. Also seems like the BB house got to see the premiere, if the voting shout-outs were any indication.

Also Chenbot said they've gone the route of BBCAN and cut the jury to 7, so because of that twist, Cirie ain't making jury. (Spoiler tagged just for Darkx)

Once again a comment of mine immediately aged badly, in this case because they are starting the jury later than they have for the past 10 seasons or so as a deliberate throwback. So there are still two more people leaving pre-jury.

Man I REALLY hope they catch us up on what happened leading up to that eviction. Izzy referred to some "mistakes" she made. Blue and Mecole seemed extremely nasty and bitter towards her, and Felicia wouldn't even look at her during the liveshow (heck she looked actively bored). We really deserve to know what all this is about.

I doubt that's changed. Allison Grodner is still the Game Master, Rich Meehan is still her #2, and Clayton Halsey - aka the narrator - is still in charge of the editing room. It's been that way (or close to it) since BB6, lol.

Amazing how so much time has gone by and yet some things don't seem to change.

Also initial noms are Cory and America - largely because Cory and Jared got into an argument, but Jared wants to backdoor Cam. Also Blue told the cameras (a confessional, basically) is just playing Jared and would actually nominate his ass next week. Wow.

I mean, he's a tool, so I get why. It just took her too long to notice it and now she's on the bottom. The fact that Jared is HoH is feeds gold, at least. If he's fighting with everyone and ensuring he just misses jury, it's epic. I think the only person who spares him next week is his mother, and even then I don't know if she has a choice. Might have to cut her losses and try to save face so she can sneak by until she gets cut in the Double.

I don't know anything about Big Brother challenges, but unless Cirie started working out between Game Changers and now, the only challenge she has a chance to win is a Touchy Subjects-esque challenge. So if Jared's relying on his mom to save him, he's screwed.

This has been the most chaotic season in a very long time in terms of alliances constantly changing and I very seriously doubt the final two will be some sort of pair (showmance, strong ride-or-die duo, etc). It'll probably be a Nicole/Paul-esque final two where they were never really in each other's top two or three but they loosely worked together through much of the game and ended up being the two that survived the chaos. Something like Jag and America, or Cory and Blue (or Jag and Cory) would probably be applicable here.

She's done awful in anything remotely physical. Even the one where they just had to navigate a ball on a moving board, the other players ranged from :45 to 1:15-ish, and it took her 12 minutes.

(spoilers about context only) There are several challenges like the one you mentioned. Ones about other HGs or memory-based ones about things in the game. Big Brother tends to use the same challenges every year, just with a new coat of paint and in a different order. (HOH spoilers ahead) Jared just won the wall endurance comp, for example, which everyone knew was coming based on how long they weren't allowed in the backyard.

So we're gonna be at the halfway point in the season this week. These are my current rankings:

  1. Cirie Fields (She's Cirie. She's a great social player overall, and she gives great diary rooms.)
  2. Felicia Cannon (I love how much wonderful "cranky old lady" energy she brings to the season, and she's got that kind of bitchy attitude you love to see.)
  3. Hisam Goueli (Three weeks of him was the perfect amount of time for him to have a glorious rise and fall, while still being a likable villain.)
  4. Izzy Gleicher (Her connection with Cirie is obviously beneficial, but her constant paranoia and general hatred of Cameron made for great television.)
  5. Blue Kim (I hated her attitude at certain points, but it's kind of looped back around to being ironically hilarious how she wants to be this bad punk bitch, but she's kind of a flop.)
  6. Reilly Smedley (She made for a good week two boot, that's for sure. Props for inspiring cultlike devotion to her memory.)
  7. America Lopez (I appreciate her playing hard and being a house pariah for seemingly no reason, but I rank her a little lower because she's coming across as one of those "I need to make BIGMOVES kinds of characters.)
  8. Matt Klotz (He seems like a mostly nice guy, Andrew Tate quotations aside. I appreciate him not being a complete jackass in a season filled with jackass men.)
  9. Jag Bains (He's another nice guy, but he's also kind of a flop, and it's a tiny bit frustrating to see him bumble his way to success.)
  10. Bowie Jane Ball (If her edit starts to pick up, she can certainly rise in my rankings. But for the time being, she has largely been a background player thus far.)
  11. Mecole Hayes (See what I said about Bowie, but without the inherent exuberance she displays. Mecole is such a weird mystery to me in general.)
  12. Kirsten Elwin (It's crazy how so many people say she was robbed, or the season would be better with her around. She wasn't BAD...but she also wasn't GOOD. She just existed and was slightly offputting, resulting in an early boot.)
  13. Michael "Red" Utley (I grew to dislike him a little, if only for enabling Cameron instead of completely isolating him like the weirdo he is. Red wasn't TERRIBLE though.)
  14. Cory Wurtenberger (I just hate the archetype of the nerdy superfan, because more often than not, they think they're so much smarter than we are, and production gives them all the narration possible to hammer that point home. It's just frustrating. I don't WANT to see someone like me succeed. I would SUCK as a character on Big Brother.)
  15. Jared Fields (He's an arrogant brat and hs actually managed to tank a pretty sweet position in the house, because he's just incapable of being consistently nice...particularly towards women. More than that though, he has tanked CIRIE'S game as well, which is no bueno.)
  16. Cameron Hardin (The guy's a creeper on the pretty girls in the house, but more than that, he's got massive "main character syndrome". He's the space cowboy, and he goes on the block twice and STILL doesn't realize that maybe there's a REASON why you're being pawned twice. Him winning HoH to take out Izzy and suddenly getting so much undue praise just sours him even more. Also, he's fake as fuck, and desperately trying to be a big character more than anything else. He unironically gives HIMSELF the nickname Space Cowboy...for SOME reason.)
  17. Luke Valentine (I don't actively hate him as much as Cory/Jared/Cameron, but I can't justifiably put someone who used the N-word anywhere but last place.)

One of the few general opinions I share with the casual fanbase is that I tend to love the Spencer archetype, so I am enjoying Cory.

I agree with you that Jag and Matt really stand out as the nicest guys among this male cast.

Jared is an astonishingly terrible Big Brother player, and the best move Cirie could possibly make would be the reverse-Ciera Eastin and vote out her child.

This explains a lot. I hope you can find a way to correct your self-loathing.

For me, it depends on the superfan, and how long they last. The ones that are tryhard know-it-alls thirsty for screentime tend to be the most obnoxious. The ones who don't care about pretending to be good TV (or just ARE naturally good TV) and are there to win are the most likable.

How much like his brother is Cory? I watched only two episodes and the one DR of his I remember was a joke about winning America's heart as well as America's heart. The country and the one he's banging.
