When do we stop calling it the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and instead just call it the Music Hall of Fame?

George Michael - sure
Missy Elliot - um, no
Sheryl Crow - sure
Willie Nelson - I guess
Kate Bush - was she that influential?
Rage Against the Machine - definitely
The Spinners - literally who?

Iron Maiden - seems pretty obvious
A Tribe Called Quest - don't know much about
Cyndi Lauper - understandable to be on the bubble
Warren Zevon - only know him for Werewolves in London
The White Stripes - nah
Joy Division - don't know them
New Order - literally who?
Soundgarden - ought to have had a good shot

They never made it big in America at the time, I think, but their influence is wide enough that most people should probably have heard of them by now

Iron Maiden not being in yet is wild

Soundgarden getting snubbed the year after Chris Cornell felt very disrespectful and the fact they still haven't gotten in is frustrating

Joy Division: 2 albums before I was born that mostly only charted in UK and NZ. At least I've heard of them, though.
New Order: 43 singles in England, a few of which barely charted in the US in late 80's early 90's. At least they have a much longer history, even if I knew nothing about them. I'm willing to concede this is just a blind spot, but it's not unreasonable to say the height of their success was before my time and not in this country.

So what should I know them for? Any particular song(s) I ought to check out?

George Michael in the Rock and Roll HOF while Iron Maiden isn't is so viscerally funny to me just imagining all the metalheads who are probably pissed except for like the really cool-weird metalheads who think Wham! rules

The big New Order song in the US was Bizarre Love Triangle. There are multiple edits, some better than others, but it's a pretty decent song.

Is Blue Monday not their biggest US song? Or do I just think that because my local rock station used to play the Orgy cover an unreasonable amount back when I was in high school.

The fact audience participation (which I'm assuming occurred with Maiden like it did Priest) has to happen for most any metal band not named Black Sabbath or Metallica to get anywhere close to ballots is never not stupid.
