what. your refund has nothing to do with whether you make a lot or a little. it's just a function of how accurately you withheld

True, but it tends to go down if you make a lot more one year than the year before if you don't think ahead.

That said I usually pay in (because I want my money earlier) so it's not an exciting day for me.

I'm actually owing this year (I believe because I had some backpay from the previous year that got paid out as a lump sum), so it's even more of a moot point.

For the first time since Trump took office, I am getting money back instead of paying several hundred back. Which is weird because my AGI went up by $10K this year, and my standard deduction is higher then my itemized deduction. That said, my refund is only $350, so only spending it on a few small things like video games and new brakes for my car.
