ChatGPTis literally doing nothing new or innovative, but everyone is experiencing what can only be described as mass hysteria and claiming AGI will be here this year. No? ChatGPT is actually pretty awful at what it does. When its not spitting out just straight up wrong information, its just copying and pasting Wikipedia articles and rewriting them at a third grade level. It cant even answer basic questions, and you really have to push it to get even halfway towards a useful response. I've honestly enjoyed using it, and I've found ChatGPT more useful for putting points together than anyone else around. As an example, I bought an uncut die (the thinky bits of a computer) and was looking at it under the microscope, and found some weird formations. I don't know anyone who is in the silicon wafer design, and wouldn't even know where to start looking around. ChatGPT helped me point to some different terms and also handling the die. An AI can conceivably reach a point where it thinks it's doing the logical thing without emotional or immoral limitations to impede its decisions, then turn around and murder a billion people because it doesn't quite understand why that's a problem. The real problem with AI is that ultimately it's going to be created by humans, and shaped by humans. And humans suck. So even unconsciously we're probably going to corrupt any AI we make as we give it orders and it learns from our history, culture, and archives of data. It's why every chatbot seems to eventually start talking about how Hitler wasn't so bad.
