The annoying thing is that most of those substances are really only needed for colouring purposes. Nothing of value would be lost if they were eliminated, except that companies would have to do something different to make their foods look more appetizing than they really are (alternatively, they could just make appetizing food, but that gets in the way of buying that fourth yacht).

Kinda blows my mind that this was never an issue in the past, reminds me of the time when they would put a bit of cocaine in Coca-Cola. There also was a time when heroin was sold as general cough medicine.

I'm sure though with science now compared to the late 1800's when heroin was first introduced we do know a lot more about this stuff. Also many scientists and doctors have already warned about the dangers of energy drinks in general.

The candy industry absolutely deserves to be bullied by the State, lol. They are dreadful.

This... make the packaging bright but the candies themselves non-colored or barely colored/pastel colored.. idk...

LIke whats the big deal. I'd rather not have cancer later down the line..

Wish people would be more willing to visualize themselves a few years down the line getting a cancer diagnosis and imagining how they'd feel..

Cali is "BASED" for this... not for many things, but certainly for this..

I haven't had skittles in a really long while. Most candy quality has really gone downhill thanks to shrinkflation. I tend to spend up for better desserts anymore

This is just a classic case of candy companies don't want to pay say $10 more to manufacturer a huge batch of the candy. They will skirt costs anywhere they are legally allowed to do so to generate just a bit more money.

Everything listed there has been well-documented to cause harm, and only remains in use across the country because the FDA hasn't bothered(/has been bribed not) to go back and re-evaluate decisions they made decades ago based on more recent research showing that harm. There's plenty of reason to want them out of food, especially where they add nothing of real value from the consumer's perspective.

As much as the warnings have become pointless because of how frequent they are, Prop 65 warnings are also based on legitimate risks. Every substance identified by Prop 65 warnings does present a danger to people, that's not the issue. The issue is that the warnings are slapped on anything and everything with any association with those substances, with no regard for dosage, route of exposure, or anything else that dictates how much risk the final product poses to consumers. The result is that the warning shows up on many things that aren't actually harmful, diluting its effectiveness to the point of being useless.

I'm pretty sure it's just California that causes cancer and not the chemicals known to them. If they were concerned about the well-being of the tax payer they would do something about the L.A. rat problem and the public deification in San Francisco.
