that didn't happen with us cuz we had games without discrete endings, like Balloon Fight and such

Both Golden Suns had good final dungeons (there is no Golden Sun 3). Xenoblade 2's was pretty great. Basically every expansion's final dungeon in FFXIV is hype incarnate.

Same. Go off to grind and collect the best equipment and skills and then get bored/distracted and come back a while later and just restart from the beginning. I've gotten a bit better about completing games lately though.

Let's start a list of JRPGs with GOOD final dungeons. FFVI.

Honestly I don't see how VI's is particularly high above the standard final dungeon. That's not to say it's bad, but it's not that much better.

I really like FFIV and V's final dungeons. IV, like III, has a lot of optional bosses guarding gear, and some interesting encounters. V throws boss fight after boss fight at you but it doesn't get old... actually, I think I just like having lots of interesting bosses thrown at me and rewarding me with gear/moves.

The Tales of series has some good ones. I like Eldrant from Tales of the Abyss, for example, it's one of my favorite final areas in games, period. Every scene in it is great, the boss fights are tense, and the locale, a recreation of a city that was destroyed years ago, its people massacred, is simultaneously austere and horrifying in its emptiness. Eternia and Symphonia have some solid final areas too.

Dragon Quest VI? Dragon Quest XI's wasn't bad either, come to think of it.

SMT has some good ones, too.

I used to have a bad habit of getting to right before the final boss of a game, going back to grind out some side content for completion's sake, but burning out on that grind and drifting away from the game. There was one point where I forced myself to sit down and finish all of the DS/3DS games I'd done that with, and I completed something like 9 games in a week.

I try to do that But Ill forget all sorts of things when I do that Like good setups I had or whatever Which then lead to me starting over Sometimes, it was just to remember how to play, or whatever Then, I would like that file more for whatever reason, and then do the same thing when I got to the end These days, I will try to finish it before moving on, but its hard

For that particular binge, I just powered through that. If I couldn't remember how to play or what was going on, I looked up guides or story summaries to give me the necessary context. I've definitely also just restarted games instead of trying to pick them up where I drifted away, but those were cases where I was so close that I really didn't want to do that.

Yeah. I could probably look up guides for some of them Though, if it hasnt been too long, I can usually pick it back up. Just depends on the amount of time Or if Im still relatively close to the beginning

I've never had this particular problem. I will stall completing games to do side content (or at least I used to back when the final battle was actually the end of the game) but I would always finish.

The most that I can say is that I sometimes dread what I suspect will be overly long end sequences so I have to be in a particular mood to give it a try...

To be fair, that cavern is way harder than the final dungeon. Once you grind enough there, the final boss is a joke.

My step grandad made a deal with my brother and I. He wouldn't buy us a new game till we beat the last one he bought us. He regretted that deal as games back in the day where beatable in one day easily. One birthday I beat the game I got before dinner was served. He was kinda upset by that lol.

Wish I could remember what game it was but it was super short. Think it took me like 2 hours to beat.

Glad he wasn't the one who bought me that Garfield game on sega genesis though. To this day I still haven't even beat the first level. Idk what it was but I just couldn't figure out the boss

It was the one where he got stuck in a TV and each level was movie based. First level was zombies iirc with the boss being a vampire.

I only did it out of frustration. I never bothered with junctions my first time and I ALMOST beat the final boss. I had her in her Monologue phase where all you gotta do is survive at that point. My dumbass didnt think to pop a hero drink. It was such a tough fight I couldn't be bothered to try again. I did like a year later learned the junction system and steamrolled the game.
