I dont have any, but I think they should be forgiven. The bankers get bailouts any time they complain, so let them eat the cost. They gave loans with predatory rates to people who were barely even adults.

We need to stimulate our economy by removing unfair debts from everyone (especially young people trying to start their lives). If college debt is holding our citizens back, then it should be forgiven. The thing is that the vast majority of people would have already paid them off of society had not taken away the concept of hard work for fair pay.

Republicans just want to punish people who went to college, since generally speaking, those people tend not to vote Republican anyway.

There's literally no good argument for not offering loan forgiveness, especially when the economy is taking a fat shit

They're fine with tax cuts for the rich but has sn issue with poor students getting a break, fuck the repubs

Barrett seems to be on the side of letting the forgiveness happen, so that's a plus I guess. Still expecting it to fail 5-4

I'm very grateful I'm eligible for PSLF but it sucks immensely for everyone else who was counting on this after 2 years of financial cushioning and relief :(

The 2008 bank bailouts were literally loans that they had to repay

You took on the debt so you should pay it. They should get rid of any accrued interest and set the interest rate to 0% though. The interest rates on those loans are way too high.

It's not enough that I should succeed, others should fail.

If there's no profit to be made then why would they or anyone for that matter agree to this? Actually, due to inflation if anything they're be losing money.

Honestly if they want they're tuition paid for that bad then join the army.

I too think we should not help anyone if past people can not retroactively receive help. Why improve society at all? Not like people in the 1600s had clean drinking water

I don't want to sound like the old man "it worked for me, I don't understand why it wouldn't work for you" but I feel college is the first "Don't live above your means" lesson you can give a young person.

I did 2 years of community college, followed by two years at the local State university.

Granted, this was 20(plus) years ago, but I just looked at the numbers, and both are still VERY affordable.

Nassau Community College is $2900 a semester if you are going there full time (12 credits or more). Some added fees (all under $400) for a few of the science and music classes.

Farmingdale State University is $3600, plus $300 per credit.

So you can basically do all 4 years for less than one year at a University like Syracuse.

And you won't leave with a diploma at $240k in debt.

People with better jobs pay more taxes.

More tax revenue means better infrastructure, military, and public/federal programs.

Education is an investment in your own country. Why would you discourage that?

I paid off all of my student loans already. I started paying for them while I was still in university, so I didn't owe a lot after I finished.

That's up to them to decide. If their futures aren't worth it enough for them to take any risk then thats okay.

There's plenty of other alternatives paths in life.

So, now that you were fooled into falling for it, the question is... What are you doing to ensure the generations that follow you do not fall into the same trap? Do you advise any younger people that college isn't the only option? And if they insist that they want to go to college, do you advise them of the more affordable options, like Community and local State Colleges?

Do you tell them anything at all?

But you can almost always go to a different cheaper college. The degree is what matters!
