Itd make more sense for them to order him to court and then issue a bench warrant if he doesnt show, that way theres an actual justification they can point to.

To be clear, when I say "more likely to happen than not" I mean the indictment. I'd say an actual perp walk is much less likely - they'll probably work something out where he surrenders voluntarily and avoids the ~~~optics~~~ of that. I just would absolutely love to see it though.

Another January 6th is almost best case scenario, with the worst case being DeSantis pulling a New York leave my Florida man alone!! and the reactionary response to that. Theres also the possibility of a GOP primary implosion over each candidates reaction to this, but who knows what happens then.

That the idea that law enforcement is going to just abandon the rule of law and an indictment because they're scared of his cultists is kinda ridiculous. If an indictment is returned it'll be executed. If DeSantis wants to flagrantly violate the constitution by preventing an extradition to another state uh "good luck."

As for the GOP primary I think it's pretty clear that a Trump indictment/arrest will actually help him there because the GOP will have a rally-around-the-flag effect over it. Fox News is already trying to message to their viewers that they think it's a leftist plot to cause just that because they're scared of DeSantis and Fox is still trying to push DeSantis.

Wouldn't Trump want the publicity from a perp walk? It'd be a great visual to rally his supporters against everyone else, plus it makes it hard for the mainstream news (and Fox) to keep ignoring him.

I'm split on that. You're right but at the same time I don't know if his vanity and ego would permit him to go through with it if he has the option to not.

Trump absolutely wants the perp walk, that's why he "leaked" this in the first place. It would be a rallying cry and any footage of it would be used in every single one of his campaign ads.

I guarantee the state is trying its best to avoid giving him any kind of ammunition for future campaign ads.

Leaking a perp walk takes away the surprise factor though.

Yeah, this was a story I knew too but I suppose it's significant in that someone directly involved is now admitting it. (IIRC some peripheral people like Reagan staffers and some people on Iran's end had before but no one this close on the US side)

Previously everyone denied and when Congress investigated it over 30 years ago they came back with "no evidence i guess." Though the evidence that was present even then was sufficient for me to believe it long before this admission.

I think he knows that despite all the rehabilitation efforts that Tucker and others, including Congresspeople, are trying to run that 1/6 is deeply toxic to independents and he's afraid something similar might happen if Trump's call to violence is heeded.

Like NFUN said, Tuesday was Trump pulling a day out of his ass. Most court observers (and the media) realized on Monday that anything happening Tuesday was unlikely. Grand Jury meets again today so maybe tomorrow? Think he's trying a stall tactic by calling another witness in not sure if that'll delay things further or if they covered that in the Monday session.

Grand Jury isn't meeting today for reasons that are unclear. MSNBC is reporting that they've been told to be on standby for tomorrow. Personally I'm starting to think it's not gonna be this week.

It's minimum legal retirement age at 64 AND you need to have 43 years of "cotisation", to get full retirement that you are due (so f-you if you are a woman wanting to take time of care of your children, or if you did long studies, or if you just decide to not work full time). AND there is the removal of special statuses (unless you are in the government of course). AND lack of recognition of impact of some work on health and longevity (laborers are more likely to not even reach the retirement age than white collars). This on top of an already strained system after cuts and cuts (as a neolib does) and people getting poorer.
It's "work more to get less, and die in the process". And people want non of that.

If that is true we could have saved 50 posts of argument. Moving the retirement age from 62 to 64 like I said is completely fine. Screwing over women for being women is not ok

Im not aware exactly but Ill ask my French friends. However, screwing over women for daring to have children is pretty much a running theme of neoliberal work. The pay gap for instance is almost non-existent (except at the highest levels) for women who dont have children but significant for those who do. The solution is A) shared parental leave and B) free provision of childcare. Cultural changes to shift the domestic burden to a more even split between women and men are also very welcome. So yeah this kind of thing is not surprising.

I'd ask how exactly Trump delivers that if he's indicted, except I feel like he won the 2016 election partly because otherwise neutral voters didn't want to imagine what would happen if Trump lost so I guess these threats work? Then again, we're not in 2016 anymore.

Trump won in 2016 because he was a joke candidate running against an extremely unpopular nominee who was undemocratically nominated basically before primary season ever started.

Most people didnt start voting for trump until 2020

Bernie would have never won the general election in 2016 anyway. 2020 is a different story, but the youth vote simply wasn't strong enough yet. That's a very different story today.

I feel closer to the opposite. People really underestimate the incumbency effect and Bernie would have been less fresh. Of course even a significantly damaged Hillary would have won 2016 if shed ran a defensive campaign in the upper midwest rather than going on the attack in southern states she was never going to win.

I still contend that it's the opposite.

The "youth vote" was largely anti-establishment, so when Hillary won, giving the general appearance of screwing over Bernie, they checked out and the "moderate" anti-establishment people went to Trump, essentially permanently empowering them.

To put it another way, the current horrific cultural QAnon conspiracy backlash psychos coalesced in the right wing, and I don't think they'd be there if it was Bernie v Trump. Even though he called him "Crazy Bernie", Trump constantly talked about how honest and much of an outsider Bernie was.

Donald was weaponizing Bernie and should not be trusted to actually believe that.

At a private Christian school even. You know that place Rs think should basically be the only schools in America. There was already some dunce saying kids needed more God in their lives in response to this because the guns are just never to blame. Its a lack of God and mental health care and anything other than that hot gun lobbying money
