I can understand gullible boomer parents thinking this, but socialists supporting an imperial capitalist country is just mondo cringe.

Probably made by someone with Russian interests at heart. One of the biggest drawbacks of the internet is that anyone can air their veiled bad faith arguments and use it as propaganda to deceive and indoctrinate impressionable or foolish people to make it seem more legitimate.

Unfortunately, finding out that the US is, in fact, a brutal imperialistic power that ruthlessly enforces its will globally via its unmatched soft and hard power is instead of a kindly policeman LOL is very traumatic.

And some people draw the conclusion that those who oppose US interests must necessarily be better, and wind up carrying water for Russian, Chinese, etc. imperialism despite paying lip service to national sovereignty when the US does something like this. I, personally, think US policy has helped to create this situation, where Russia is a kleptocratic basket case desperately clinging to a glorious imperial past, and of course there are avowed Nazis fighting for the Ukrainians, but that doesn't change the fact that it was Russia who decided to do this, Russia that levels city blocks, Russia that has chosen that Ukraine does not deserve to exist as anything but their subject, Russia which is engaging in genocidal violence against civilians.

And, of course, Russia is also rife with Nazis of its own.

And also that imperialism is bad, regardless of whose it is.

How tf does this even make sense when Russia was the aggressor (rhetorical question)? Replace the bear cave with the Ukraine guy being attacked in his home and it would be accurate.

The narrative there is partly that Russia is under attack cause NATO expanded its borders eastward.
This of course doesn't take into consideration that the ex-soviet states asked to join NATO specifically to escape Russian threaths of invasion

Looking outside the US, there's been some socialists on the Russian side
Here in Sweden, the Left Party was the only ones voting against sending aid to Ukraine, and chose to abstain voting in the EU resolution for condemning Russias attack, and they're still anti-NATO

Those people learn America does bad things (sometimes).
Those people think, "if America does bad things sometimes, it must be bad all the time!"
Then they think, "if America is bad, its enemies (like China and Russia) must be the good guys!"

Russia claims Ukraine is full of nazis.
Of course there are some nazis in Ukraine, there are probably some nazis in every country, unfortunately, including the US and Russia
But that doesn't give Russia the right to invade Ukraine and commit war crimes against its people.

Some underlying reasons for the war are due to decades of history between the US and Russia resulting in this situation.
But that still doesn't give Russia the right to try to take over Ukraine.

There, lowered the reading level a bit.
