To be fair, that container of berries was probably $20 or more.

Probably.

Ground beef has been $5-6 a pound, and I've seen 12 packs of soda for $8. The mozzarella is probably $6.

meat's fuckin expensive. And berries are one of the most expensive (non-exotic) fruits

you can get a lot more veggies & carbs for that price. eggs & beans are much cheaper sources of protein too

Regular ground beef isn't the enemy. Wish people would just drain their juices, like they should anyway.

That sounds about right. Meat is expensive and probably made up a bulk of the cost. Those 3 pounds of ground beef are 93% lean. Those are $8-$9 per pound where I live. That combined with the pork and chicken, and the meat alone was probably $50-$55.

To make your money stretch you have to shop at multiple stores and buy excess when there are sales and freeze it.

You save money on meat if you buy in bulk and then portion it out and freeze it. Currently 1/3 of my freezer is pork loin since Costco had an after thanksgiving sale where it was .99/lb. I bought 24 lbs.

Funny thing is except for that kiwi nothing else is cut. It wouldve been better to buy blueberries, raspberries and blackberries separately.

Idk, I feed my family of four for around $120/week. Eggs, fresh fruits and veggies (in season), beans, rice, some meat. Milk, coffee, some soda. Just have to shop the sales, make sure you have the store's discount card, and take advantage of any programs they might offer.

Food Lion gives you money every month if you spend a certain amount per category. $5 back on $40 of fresh produce for example. It's free to sign up. I only buy what I normally would and don't shop to hit the target in a category I normally wouldn't buy from. Usually an extra $20 a month or so. Not much but it adds up.

I almost never buy precut fruit or veggies unless I'm hosting a party or something. But that's a separate part of the budget anyway. Also, for what it's worth I live in rural NC and it's not a super high cost of living area. I don't make a lot, either, so it all balances out.

Pretty much gave up at shopping at the local grocery. Go to Grocery Outlet or the farmers market. Farmers market is just as expensive, but at least the fruit and veggies don't taste like water.

This. You're paying a lazy tax just to have somebody slice that kiwi for you, and you can get so many more raspberries and blackberries if you buy them in individual containers.

I can believe it. Meat takes the majority of it. Berries aren't expensive too, but I can't see more than $10 for that.

Pork is generally pretty cheap. I think ground beef has gotten pretty expensive again. It was outrageous at the beginning of the pandemic.

Getting all that meat and no green veggies or any vegetables of any kind though is fucking crazy. People really need to eat more veggies and spend less money on meat.

did you also read the comments section? people in there explain it. this person made basically zero effort to reduce spending and went for pure convenience, which is always going to be more expensive.

  • pre-cut fruit tray (and the only 'cut' fruit is the kiwi, the berries are just sheer laziness)
  • processed deli meat - usually expensive. up to $12/lb
  • "lean" ground beef is typically more expensive
  • processed meat sticks - expensive

i grocery shop once a week and my bill is $50-$80 depending on what i need to refill that week.

A week worth of meat for me from Costco is like 25 bucks, maybe 30. Granted its all the same kind because they sell in but a hundred for meat there would easily last me a month or so
