Ive been doing my research on used cars, and the prices are crazy! I dont want a 10 k piece of junk that will give me nothing but grief, and CPOs in my budget are super rare. So, I have recently come to the conclusion that it just might be better for me to buy a new car for about 23k, even if I dont get all the features I want. Im looking at Nissan(Versa, Sentra, and Kicks), Hyundai(Kona, and Elantra), and Kia(Soul, Forte, and Rio). I could also afford a base Suburu Impreza with a CVT. Im pretty sure the Impreza is the only one Id be able to afford in AWD.

Used prices are alread 28% down this year from their peaks and are expected to keep coming down slowly. But if you can afford any of those no problem then that would be your best choice.

I'm waiting until May'ish to start really trying to find a deal. I want a newer Tundra 4x4 but everyone says to wait until the recession starts to finally impact the car market. Some of the "everyone " works at a car dealership

I saw one the other day that made my blood boil. User car, I think it was a 2004 Civic, asking 12k with nearly 200 Kilometers on it. I couldn't say anything as I'm a moderator for the page, but its like.... Really? I know the market is out of whack where I live, but I would rather take the bus than pay that amount for a vehicle near its expiration.

I just got a 2016 Honda Civic with 56K miles, Turbo Engine and top trim interior. $18K. I got lucky because I had a friend selling his car and he wanted better than trade in value fast so he could get himself a new car.

Oh yeah, mine is a Coupe too. So, only 2 doors, but the back is surprisingly spacey.

Idk what to do with my 2010 Mazda 3. I borderline feel bad for replacing it because it was a noble steed. But the Civic was a big step up cause my radio doesn't even work anymore in the Mazda. From what you guys are saying it sounds like I could get a decent sale, but for now it is my dog's car lol. He sheds a ton and I don't want to dirty up my Civic.

That sounds like dated advice, From what I have been hearing, CVTs have come a long way. And I need a dependable daily driver thats cheap to maintain. Not something fast or exciting.

Subaru CVTs have come a long way in the past couple years

Avoid the Nissans, Kias, and Hyundais. If you take the best parts of the vehicles they make to make a car, you'd almost have a good vehicle

I'd strongly recommend a new Subaru Crosstrek. Get a manual one if you're in to that

Like I sad, my budget is really limited. Subarus site says I can get a base Impreza with the CVT for 21k

The Crosstrek is basically a lifted Impreza hatch anyways so unless you need the ground clearance, it isn't much difference. Not sure how many dealerships are still marking up their cars but for the most part Subaru discourages that practice so you should be able to get a fair price provided you find one in stock.

Depends on the model but used prices are starting to come down a bit

I bought a 2023 Kia K5 EX Premium that I ordered exactly how I wanted it and paid 34k which was MSRP, plus an $1800 maintenance/protection package (basically a literally everything warranty for three years, even wear items like brakes and tires and covers any dents or tears or chips)

So $35,800 for a brand new car. Checked some local used inventories out the other day out of curiosity and theyre asking $37k for used K5 EX Premiums with 12-15k miles on them

Fucking insane

There is no reason to buy a used car. Not some actually old car anyway, if used means it has 1000 miles or it's last year's model, sure.

Awesome. I sold a similar one to a car dealership for $15k, just a basic one. Been laughing about it ever since.

Unless you know what you're looking for, like a 2000s Toyota/Lexus, new is where it's at right now.

Also it's the really recent CVTs that are doing decent vs the old ones afaik. Someone might know better on specific years and models

If you can wait until mid April of next year do so. You're going to see some absolutely insane drops at that point that will almost certainly result in buyers remorse if you buy now.

Mine was from 2013 (almost 4 years old) when I bought it and it was less than 15k.

I was looking at a Mercedes c class estate the other day. It's the top trim with sun roof, heated seats, electric seat settings with multiple profiles etc.
55k miles. 23k. Prestine condition as you can expect from a merc dealer.
I wonder if it's worth it.

When buying a luxury car, you have to look at more than price. They cost more to maintain, and insure. Can you afford that?

Yeah the used market sucks right now. Back in June I traded in my 2016 Civic, because the used ones were almost as much as the brand new ones. Traded up to a 2022 Accord. Felt worth it lol.

Anyway, I'd avoid Kia if you can. I'm sure they've improved now, but for a while there, they were having tons of problems with their engines. Lots of recalls and tons of stories of people having trouble with their cars.
