I'm at the very, VERY begining, only watched 6 episodes so far, so I know shit gets crazy later. But fuck, I'm enjoying theese first few episodes, and years ago as a kid I read a couple of random manga chapters later in the series and remember certain parts being really cool.

I never thought I'd get into something this egregiously long and ongoing, but fuck, it's already a lot of fun.

On episode 14 now; I'm already having a blast. Love the characters introduced so far, and knowing that it gets absolutely crazy later, seeing then at the very start of their pirate career is really cool.

I said I would never watch it.

I'm now 526 episodes in and loving it.

i watched the first episode tonight with my wife and she enjoyed it. i haven't watched a lot of it (a few eps and read the first vol of the manga) and this isn't on the level of some of you but maybe we'll get there some day lol. i'm sure we'll be watching more soon

If you like the start youll love the series.

if it helps One Piece is a show that seems too long. But there will come a time were you binge it and youll wish it was longer

I'm thinking of starting dis series too but its too long and da art is so weird, iunno guys

The walk to Arlong Park is where people usually get sold on the series. So if you already like it, by the time you get there you'll be hooked.

Its fine, the anime doesn't start showing the first bad signs of pacing issues until episode 200 something/the start of the water 7 arc. You can see how they started catching up to the manga a bit once anime enies lobby starts. After that short bounty hunter family filler arc, thriller bark is when they start kicking you in the nuts with blatant pacing issues, lol.

It then gets worse when marineford pops up, and "oh my god please end my suffering" when dressrosa anime happens.

Up until that arc (or swapping to reading once thriller bark starts) anime watchers should be good to go.

I remember when I first discovered one piece the anime was just getting to the end of the water 7 episodes and going into the enies lobby arc......watched 260 something episodes in the span of what, 6 days I think. God damn was I hooked something serious.

On episode 1015. Shit's about to get real. Fantastic series.

Just met up with Sanji. I remember thinking he looked really cool when I was a kid.

The first "major" arc is one of the finest things I've ever experienced in anime. It's long as fuck, but boy does it pay off.

I considered this show, Avatar, a couple others but a lot have an absurd amount of episodes.

Difficult question, depends on the kinds of media you like in general. I can give some generic recommendations?

If you dislike anime and long series altogether, the studio ghibli movies are a good entry point, assuming you havent seen them.

Other movies that technically count as anime but arent like, anime would be paprika and akira.

You'd maybe like Ghost in a Shell. And then moving towards more anime-anime, you have cowboy bebop, samurai champloo, sword of the stranger...

Most anime series have somewhere between 24 and 30 episodes.

Cool, I'll look into it. I actually saw Akira years ago and liked it, but I can count on one hand how many others like it I've watched.

Wife is getting into it more, shes watching something called Demon Hunter, so I figured I may as well explore it a bit if she's getting into it.

Demon Hunter is cool but it is peak anime. Like all the cliches, it has all of them.

There's a genre of anime called "shonen" (which technically is more of an age/gender group than a genre, but anyway) - and that is what most people think of when they're talking about anime. Things like One Piece, Naruto, Bleach, Demon Hunter, etc. Cool teenagers defeating monsters with their chosen one abilities, the power of friendship, etc. It's usually some self-insert fantasy story.

You might like the seinen category, which tends to be a bit more mature in its themes. Monster is a great example of this.

Still a lot of cliches in that genre though.

demon slayer feels so generic and soulless that i kinda wonder where its popularity comes from. It's damn near a retelling of FMA but with demons instead of alchemy

Different generation and amazing animation, is my guess. Bleach was super popular too and that entire thing was basically invented because the author wanted to draw cool stuff, lol

I wouldn't personally count Avatar as an anime, but it is a great show that I highly recommend.

Yu Yu Hakusho is one of my all time favorite shows, and if you want a silly and just straight up fun anime movie, Redline has become an all time favorite for me personally.

I know I've heard people hate on Sanji, but so far has intro arc has been pretty cook.

Also I fucking love Zoro as a character.

zoro is the best
and sanji gets worse the further into the series you go

Almost done with the Arlong arc. It's pretty great, a couple of specific moments I've actually teared up a little bit. This is good shit.

Also for sure appreciating Nami more as a character

Arlong is the moment where if you still don't like it you should probably quit, and if you liked what came before it makes you love the series

If netflix live action don't get da walk to arlong park right, its going to get cancelled for sure tbh

Bump. The crew's in Loguetown now doing a bunch of side quests. I've gotten hooked pretty hard I'd say, this show is just a ton of fun.

I loved Loguetown. I think at the point Im at Im enjoying the small arcs more than the big ones.

yes nami is great
has one of the best backstories
im so excited for you to see more of the series because while arlong is the best early story arc its not the best one piece story

Yeah, it's pretty great. I've watched it off and on for almost 2 years. I'm up to around episode 450-something now. It's the only anime I really watch.
