Xenoblade 3 > Triangle Strategy

...and i feel like 2022 was a year in which i played more "games released this year" than average lol!

Both were great games but long-time readers of SELF know my feelings on Xenoblade 3 so that's the clear and away winner. Plan to play Elden Ring though, and soon - probably after Trails from Zero (which itself is on an unofficial pause for F/GO's Lottery Event for the week) - since I decided to take the plunge and just play it on PS4 instead of waiting until I decide to get a PS5.

XB3 > Kirby > S/V

Same! I've actually played four games on the poll!

Probably some recency bias here but I'd go Sonic > Kirby > TMNT > Triangle

Really liked all four games though. I might feel differently about Triangle Strategy if I ever get around to getting the other endings.

Only 2 weeks after FF16, huh? Bold strategy.

Big games coming out every month other than April until July so far.

I feel like it doesn't matter when you release a Trails game at this point. They know who their audience is, and they know they'll buy it.

I'd say that about Zelda or God of War or whatever, but FF16 or Persona seem like bad ones to launch against.

God of War > Elden Ring > Arceus > Kirby > Stray > Scarlet > Skywalker Saga

Those are all the new games I have played this year I believe. Enjoyed all.

Probably about 75-80% through Wheel of Time book 12 now. Definitely the best appearances for Rand and especially Nynaeve in a while.

I had a hunch that Jianyu was the one who left the note, but I certainly wasn't expecting his reasoning behind it.

FFXII could have really used some party banter as you walk around.

The game feels very modern with the openness, I almost expected Basch and Vaan to start talking after I got him in my party when it was just two of them.

Man, going to visit my parents for the holidays after theyve moved is really weird

My mom was going to visit for Christmas but we're supposed to have 50 mph winds and -30 wind chill the next couple days in addition to snow, so she's going to wait until after New Year's now.

Christmas gatherings in my family have gotten smaller over the years - used to be one on each side of the family. Then it turned into one. Then with more moving out-of-state it's basically just my immediate family and my aunt and uncle who live close by now.

Well, we live 8 hours away from the closest family, and with me working for the post office, getting any time off for Christmas is impossible, so we usually have to celebrate with family after the fact.

As for an English release, I doubt it. The previous Trails gacha game didn't get one, even after the same company developing this one ported it to smartphones.

Finally got around to playing some more Three Hopes and got to explore the base camp. It's nice that you can "buy" levels so your units don't fall too far behind. I was kind of worried about the level disparity from the first few battles since Shez was dominating everything with me controlling him.

The base camp's pretty well done I think.

I always play male when it's an option (although the news that there's no romance is a little disappointing).

Watched Glass Onion last night. Was pretty good. The murder mystery part was weaker than Knives Out (which I saw for the first time like three days ago lol) imo to the point where I nearly figured it out in real time when I usually don't but I guess that's kind of the point lol. And really the only parts I were off on is because even I still added a layer of complexity to it that it simply lacked lmao.

Oh hey I watched Glass Onion last night too. The first movie was definitely better, but theyre both great and really fun watches.

I really liked Knives Out. Looking forward to watching Glass Onion with my dad sometime soon.

Utawarerumono Mask of Truth anime beaten

My jaw hit the floor when Musouka 2016 started playing. That's not something I thought would ever happen and I'm really happy for Eruruu.

Haku saying farewell the first time was heatbreaking. Definitely one of my favourite scenes in the series.

The final battle seemed like it would have been super hype in the game. Karura and Touka alone we trouble and things just kept getting worse. I'm always a sucker for characters from older series showing up again and being treated as a massive threat. The show clearly had a showstring budget, but it was nice that Touka got a short but cool combat sequence. In general, I'm glad Karura got some screen time in the new Utawarerumono anime since I like her a lot. But, ultimately not that much screen time so I'm a bit sad.

Overall, I liked the characters and the series a lot. But, it was obviously how much they were rushing to get through everything. There are a lot of fighting scenes and not enough budget to actually properly animate any of it.

I guess this is it for Utawarerumono? I think the developers got bought or something so maybe things weren't going so well.

Utawarerumono MoT: Yeah, the final battle is probably my favorite final battle in all of gaming. You've got Towani playing as the battle theme and all of the S-Craft/Limit Breaks have their voice lines changed to be the team trying to get through to Kuon. Including the combo ones so you can have ones like Haku + Nekone which are especially powerful.

He's generally a happy and chill baby, which has been really helpful for us as first-time parents, for sure.

Don't know how this happened, but we watched the Lord of the Rings trilogy over the last three days (a very Merry and Pippin Christmas, you might say). All the movies still hold up, by the way.

Now we might go into the Hobbit movies next. I've never actually watched them because the reception for them has been mixed, so this will be a new experience for me.

i don't think any of the hobbit movies are outright bad, though they obviously can't hold a candle to the LotR movies.

I actually really liked the first of the Hobbit movies, to the point that I'd almost put it in the same category as the Lord of the Rings movies.

The other movies are all fine and only really look bad if you're comparing them to LotR which is a bit unfair considering they are some of the best movies of all time imo.

The Hobbit movies feel way too long. There are some fan cuts that cut out a lot of the bloat, but those are tough to get a hold of.

Oh right, 3 > 1 > 2 for Lord of the Rings trilogy (movies and books).

Random thought I had this time around (pretty sure this is the first time I've watched the movies since I read the books for the first time a few years ago so it might be informed by that), but Aragorn totally should've ended up with Eowyn instead of Arwen.

lol this might have been one of my earliest "shipping" opinions back when I read the books as a kid.

Hobbit movies are worth a watch IMO. Not as good as the LotR ones IMO but like you said, I think they definitely still hold up today.
