DRV3 Case 2 beated! Well, I was right that the killer would be the person who got their actual motive video, and what a motive it was! It's sad that we lost two interesting characters in the same case, but that's how it goes sometimes. I felt pretty bad for Ryoma when we found out he didn't have anyone he cared about, and that's why he was willing to let Kirumi kill him. I was also right that Maki was hiding her Ultimate talent, as Kokichi reveals she's actually the Ultimate Assassin. It does beg the question of how he knew, unless he watched all the motive videos when he collected them, despite saying he didn't. There's no reason to believe he told the truth, of course.

Yeah, the case was fine. It had some interesting details, but the culprit reveal was honestly a little anticlimactic. It felt like the least interesting outcome, although they did make up for it to an extent with the backstory.

Started rereading 20th Century Boys a few days ago. Man, its so good. Too bad it never got an anime adaptation!

(There was apparently a trilogy of live action movies, but that doesnt really seem like enough time to adapt a couple hundred manga chapters with good pacing)

Elden Ring: I've still been playing but most days it would have just been "still exploring Liurnia. also exploring a giant lake/swamp is not great. very same-looking"

But now Liurnia and Raya Lucaria beated so I can have a wrap-up post.

So, yeah, exploration wasn't as fun for me here as in Limgrave. Especially in the giant lake. A few places I don't think I can get it to either, or at least I can't figure out a way. There's a bunch of locked teleporters at one spot though but until I have enough keys for them all I'm in decision paralysis lol.

Helped some NPCs out, retrieving a necklace, getting a second Academy key, etc. Patches told me of another very obvious trap at Raya Lucaria which I of course happily walked into. A volcano, eh? Fought my way out of there and lol his justification. Also found Ranni and joined her group because she's still the real MVP for giving me the summon bell and wolves. Also a village of jars. So I made a new jar friend.

Anyway bunch of exploration later and finally the last place left to go was the place I was supposed to go - Raya Lucaria. And lol all my exploration must have made be too strong because I mostly wrecked that place. Mostly. My sword skill could do like 1/3 of the mini-boss's HP on a hit lmao. Rennala wasn't much better. First phase was a joke phase. I did die on the second phase because I got caught between bullet hell and lasers. Second try I summoned doggos and wow that made it exceedingly trivial because they just stunlocked her and she couldn't do a thing LOL.

Oh, the Roundtable Hold also feels really lonely now. I returned one time to find that once again the no fighting aura is a lie and got invaded by the quiet guy. Where upon his boss was like "lol my bad" and I guess we're just leaving it at that for now huh. That one guy looking for his servant friend found her dead outside the Academy and left for REVENGEANCE. The priest teacher decided to bail. My semi-friend Rogier up and fell asleep and died on me. Fia gave me a dagger and told me to return it to the owner and somehow the Tarnished knew it was D so I gave it to him and we was like "thanks" and then not much later Fia *fucking murdered* him lmfao before just peace'ing out. So I think our remaining survivors are the blacksmith, Roderika, Gideon, and the two finger crones. Oh, and the Dung Eater who is like... invading peacefully? He's got the red invasion form but no combat is still up.

After Liurnia was done I checked back on the Siofra River since Ranni and Blaidd asked me to go there. Looks like that needs Caelid to be beated to progress any further. Since I had actually explored the place before Liurnia and only had the two bosses left unresolved from that time I went and handled them and they were likewise pretty easy after all the levels (but mostly probably sword upgrades) from Liurnia.

Now I think it's time to decide my next destination. I have a few options technically. I think the two the game favors are either the Altus Plateau or Caelid. I made my way to Altus via the "coward's path" as part of my Liurnia exploration so I have a foothold there. And Caelid was always there on the other side of Limgrave. I also could go to the Ainsel River since I found an elevator there or I could go to Mt. Gelmir from the Patches trap. Think I'm gonna go to Caelid though.Unless I get bodied there or something LOL. My reasoning is that the "proper" way to Altus seems to be the elevator that needs the two pendant halves to be reunited. I've got one and the item description of it suggests the other half is east (of Limgrave) which... I mean is Caelid.

Okay, I've started Case 3 in DRV3. It feels like they're dropping lots of foreshadowing that the next murder scene will be the Ultimate Artist's Lab based on all the talk of locks and keys (although it was great that Monodam was genre savvy enough to steal the key once it was introduced). I do wonder how this Monokub "coup" is going to turn out, and if Kokichi hates them because he's the mastermind behind Monokuma.

In DRV3, I started suspecting this might be a simulated world like DR2's once they introduced the computer that could "create a new reality" or however they put it, as well as the Flashback Light this time around showing a funeral for all the Ultimates. Now with the idea of bringing someone back from the dead, it feels even more likely since there's no way it could happen if this were "real life," at least not with the rules DR plays by anyway.

Unless freaking everyone out with the idea of bringing someone back from the dead is the point and there's no plan to actually resurrect anyone.

It's official: Return of the Jedi is still the best. Sure, it has some weak parts, but nothing in any Star Wars tops the throne room scenes. I tend to judge stories by their best parts unless the bad parts are just that bad (see: Xenosaga Episode III), so that's why RotJ is still my favorite Star Wars movie.

This will be my first time rewatching the sequels since Episode IX (and my first time rewatching Episode IX period), so I'll be curious to see if my opinion on the trilogy has shifted.

that's fair, though i also think the bad parts in RotJ... really are that bad. but aside from that, i'm a "judge a story by the entirety of the story" kind of guy, so RotJ doesn't do it for me.

i will say my opinion of the movie has improved a lot over the years, though (maybe thanks to many star wars movies getting released that were clearly a lot worse?). i used to really dislike it but now i think it's more meh than anything. disappointing conclusion to the trilogy but not bad.

In DRV3, the cult of Angie is getting out of hand, leading me to believe she's going to be the next victim, in addition to her lab being an ideal locked room situation. Or maybe she'll be the killer, but either way, I don't expect this cult stuff to last beyond this chapter. Angie did say their plan was to revive Rantaro, which is certainly the most intriguing candidate (bringing back Kaede just to make her Shuichi's sidekick wouldn't be all that interesting). I'm still skeptical anyone is actually going to be revived, but we'll see!

In DRV3, everything was going just as I predicted until Tenko turned up dead, too. Monokuma says only the first kill counts for this trial, so if someone else killed Tenko, they can get away with it, essentially. I know there was a double murder in DR1, but I don't recall if the same rule applied back then since it was the same killer for both.

oddly enough my initial suspicion might be Kaito due to how utterly frightened he is by the occult, and he was also the one bucking hardest against Angie's rules

All right, finished rewatching Episode VII. Honestly, watching it now almost annoys me a bit because I think this movie has a lot of good ideas. Unfortunately, most of them don't get developed the way that they should (or at all, really). Finn in particular is a total waste of potential because I love him in this movie, and he gets the short end of the stick in the other two.

Also, I think Harrison Ford's performance might be the best part of the sequel trilogy. He's so good here.

It's not necessarily big things, just little throwaway lines or pieces of lore they hinted at, like how that one character whose name escapes me found Luke's lightsaber (and when she's asked about it, she says something like, "A good story...for another time").

The First Order is kind of absurdly OP though, in a way that's almost not possible to take seriously. "The Death Star could only blow up one planet at a time? We can blow up FIVE."

That was my biggest problem with Episode VII on first viewing. The First Order felt like it undermined the entire plotline of the original trilogy. You don't actually take down a powerful empire and remove its influence just for its dregs to somehow become more powerful. It's like if Neo-Nazis were somehow more organized and powerful despite not controlling an entire state anymore.

Obviously something sequels could explain it but...

yeah, this is how i felt before actually rewatching - but thanks in part to prequel memes, basically every moment of ROTS is now wildly enjoyable to me - while my rewatch of ROTJ felt like it wasn't noticeably better than ROTS in terms of writing (maybe in terms of acting) and it was more tedious at lots of parts
